Quoted from fooflighter:

So I heard Mr Elwin say on a TPN podcast that the goal of the ball release off the building is supposed to hit the very tip of the left flipper to prevent going back up the ramp or building on an instant return and getting a ball stuck, by design .. now I'm wondering if I should add the roof mod
Still don't have my machine yet but how many with a roof diverter mod installed have batted a ball back to a ball trap since installing?
Thanks

wait and see how it plays on your specific machine. i (and many others) had no issue with it, once actual balance was achieved with the machine.

#8452 1 year ago

Same. I was dead set on getting this mod then saw KME mention that it was deliberate so changed my mind.

You'll find out why the first time you one-time it into the building or to one of the exposed ramp exits upon ball drop

My approach is to keep to Elwin’s design. Period.

I change nothing as far as gameplay goes.

Really considered the rooftop mod, more for its aesthetic appeal than the ball release to left flipper. That mod really adds to the drake hotel roof. Looks great!

But decided I want to play the game as intended and designed. Just my take on it.

Tho I fully support each individual’s approach to mods. Pinball is supposed to be fun. If a mod or post shift change efc makes it work for you and You enjoy the game more than that’s really all that matters.

I prefer to struggle ALL the way. lol
Then when I’ve put 100s of games on the pin,
It all SLOWLY comes together. ;P

Thanks all, I'm gonna wait and see. Don't want to change the design and surely don't want to break mechs, thanks for the link to the official response as well.

Quoted from dougPDX:

Is there a magna grab replacement plastic cover available out there? Pinball Life has one for the Pro (see image), but I am trying to find one for the LE. I think the bridge is impacting against it, or maybe it's just from airballs hitting the magna grab, but either way mine is cracking. I've seen several of these onsite that have failed.
[quoted image]

Did you ask Stern for one under warranty? They know it's a problem.

Meantime you can put a spacer in the coil sleeve so the pull isn't quite as long and it will stop the bridge from smashing the plastic.

I spoke to pinside and told them an idea I had to sort pin reviews but current and past owners. Now get rid of people who played once at arcade. She said it’s been added as filter option.

Quoted from pinzrfun:

i really wanted to see this in person before i pulled the trigger on another mod for a game I probably wont get for 6 months but what the hell. Enough people have said they don't block sight of anything.

tdiddy Tesla towers mod is one of the best mods I have ever bought. Looks fantastic like it was always meant to be there. Great light show and does not block view of ramps or playfield. Inexpensive as well. Don’t miss out. Get it.

Seeing a lot of posts from members saying they weren't into the theme before playing. Any Godzilla fans around here? This was a dream theme for me, I couldn't believe Stern were going through with it. They could have taken the license in so many directions, but the one they went with is perfect for pinball!

I'm a long time Godzilla fan, in fact I was part of group that partitioned the local movie theater here in Tulsa to get a showing of Shin Godzilla. Talk about a rough and rushed subtitle set. But man it was awesome to see in a Theater. When I heard that Stern was doing Godzilla, I put myself in a holding position because I didn't want to commit to a machine that was going to be based on the Legendary Godzilla movies. I like the new movies don't get me wrong, but I wanted Showa era or Heisei era themed game. Because of my "not getting on the list" I barely got a first run Premium and missed on the LE's. Still, with a little work my premium will look better than an LE. The side armor that is coming is way cooler than what was on the LE. Already have an order for the flame speaker mod. I Have the side art, Pinstadiums, art of pinball saucer and Pinovators sub woofer mod along with a shaker motor. So yeah, I'm a fan. Not to mention my ridiculous collection of Godzilla merch.

Since I got GZ Pro back in December, the left ramp has been getting a lot of rejects that rattled around like crazy once it hit the opening. It seems like the ball guide to the left of the Magna Grab was sticking out too far from the magnet. The ball was nicking the very tip of it which would cause it to careen off and start rattling around the entrance.

I loosened the post on the ball guide closest to the magnet, pushed the guide in closer, then tightened the post back down. This reduced the gap between the magnet and ball guide. Afterwards, I noticed a significant decrease in the amount of rattling rejects to the left ramp. You still have to nail the shot for it to go up the ramp, but I haven't noticed any rattling now.

As a bonus, the ball has A LOT more "swing" when the Magna Grab snags it, which slightly increases the ability to make the Imposter award. Before this fix, the ball was barely swinging, probably because it was hitting the ball guide.

Before the fix:
PXL_20220309_135418398 (resized).jpgPXL_20220309_135418398 (resized).jpg

After the fix:
PXL_20220309_144232652 (resized).jpgPXL_20220309_144232652 (resized).jpg

If you're getting a lot of rattling rejects on the left ramp, hopefully this helps.

For you guys that got the speaker light flaming frames…can I put this ground wire somewhere else? I can’t get it back on the nylon extension provided because the nut won’t tighten(not enough space), and I didn’t see a way to put it underneath the frame or stock speaker panel. Can I put it under the bottom nut for the speaker in the first pic? Second pic shows where it used to be.

I have not encountered a stuck ball or any issues with the roof mod. It would be a rare occasion when any of those scenarios happen...with all balls are coming down at once as a group. Also, I typically trap up which lessens the likelihood. With that said, I have had a ramp shot while the building was transitioning (either up or down, I don't recall) and the ball was temporarily stopped until a building pathway opened. It was never stuck, though.

Yes, I like mine too. Best to do bridge and lower piece at same time.

Received my Art of Pinball UFO yesterday and just put it on. Ordered the 1954 alternate translite from retrorefurbs but they sent me the other one they sell unfortunately. It does look cool though.

Hey! That's what I had done before I took this video, but even with the bias at it's max (lowest position) value it's still not far down enough until I give it that extra push with my finger as seen in the video. It's a brand new machine (90ish total plays) and this problem only cropped up maybe 5 plays ago. Before that it was perfect.

PinMonk

Just wanted to close this out in case anyone experiences this issue as well. Apparently, through play, the two screws at the back of the building mech had come loose such that when the building tried to lower they would catch on the playfield and not allow the building to completely lower. Crazy simple fix but was racking my brain as to what was going on until I had a tech take a look at it and he found it!

Anyone have pics or details on how to do this? Seems like a good fix ...

What you’re trying to do, is limit the travel on the plunger. So take the coil stop off, then grab a little washer that fits just inside the coil sleeve. Set that in there carefully and then put the coil stop back on. Just one washer will do.

[quoted image][quoted image]

I've never seen the ground wire installed where you are describing it as being originally. Are you sure that is where it was? There is normally a (speaker) wire management clip there.

The ground wire is normally installed between the speaker plate and the LCD screen on the bottom LCD screw on the right side, as the install instructions show. Of course, it used to be a thinner ground strap, but I've installed the light kits with that type of ground wire you have pictured, between the LCD screen and the light frame with no issues.

Here's a tip if you do that...... getting the side hole slots in the light frames and the holes in the sides of the LCD screen lined up can be a bit tricky. Especially when trying to get that ground wire on the lower, right side hole lined up also. So here is the trick: if you have the speaker plates and light frames removed.... start in the 2 tiny side screws in the LCD screen. Barely screw them in so most of the screw thread are still sticking out and not screwed into the LCD screen. If it is the screw where the ground wire should go....have it on there too. Then....with the light frame having the notches there, you can slide the light frames down over the protruding screws coming out of the side of the LCD screen. This can make it much easier when getting all of those holes lined up when trying to get the screws though them. So those slots in the inner walls of the light frames being open ended slots and not closed holes, have their advantage.

More importantly he said that this game needs to be checked for level at the TOP of the playfield by the building itself - not being level at the top of the playfield has more of an impact than any other machine. Get on your hands and knees and adjust those rear leg levellers, not just the front.

How is the reflection on the glass while playing with these flaming speakers? I get a little reflection from the screen still, but most reflection from the factory turned out to be from the translight, setting the option to dim that during gameplay to like 15% I think made a huge difference.

I've been apprehensive to get these speaker lights for fear of increasing reflection again and cutting down on visibility of the top of the playfield...

#8474 1 year ago

PinKopf Not bad at all. Barely notice it! I turn my trans light down to 15% as well. I’m honestly not seeing hardly any reflection.
Shows up better in the pic than in person. Very ever so slight reflection behind my Godzilla figure and the back right building. 1st and 2nd pic are at night with lights out, and 3rd is from 30 secs ago in the day with the shades drawn. I’m pretty picky with reflection too, but it’s nothing like the backglass reflection IMO. If it helps I’m 5’ 11” and from my view it’s fine.

Godzilla is like Star Wars, IMO. SUPER sensitive to level. Literally a quarter turn of the leg leveler can be the difference between great and terrible experience, just like SW. So when you recheck level (on the playfield, both at the flippers and below the building) make sure it's DEAD ON, and not "close enough."

It varies by the state being shipped into, with a minimum of about $100k of business in the destination state required before local destination tax is charged, unless the state doesn't have sales tax such as Oregon or Alaska.

When I hit the player’s left building stand up target the ball launches into the air because the target appears to be bent back. At Stern’s advice I pulled the target out from under the playfield and tried to bend it forward. I didn’t want to break it so I didn’t apply much force. After reinstall the issue remains.

Does anyone have a suggestion how to fix this? I’d ask stern to replace the switch however the connection is soldered and although I have a soldering kit I’d rather not go there. TIA.

Old thinking. It totally depends on the state in question and the distributors nexus condition with that state.

More and more states are requiring they collect tax… but the thresholds are not uniform

TIA.

Common issue.......you need to use a lot of force to bend it back I to the right position. The stand up needs to be pointed parallel or down into the playfield that way the ball isn't flung upwards

My Mando was doing the same thing, I ordered some anti-airball wedges that you can place under the target bracket.$1 each for a really simple 3D print that really does fix the problem. I've noticed this on most Sterns that I've played, ordered extras to install when Godzilla arrives. I forget off the top of my head who sells them but they can usually be found in the crawl of pinside shop accessories on the bottom of this page. A lot less stressful than bending brackets.

Hippies Haven has them
