Quoted from Bmanpin:I’m in please add me to the list. Plus I want those naked folks on your building.
Funny you mention the naked people, I'm currently working on replacing all the buildings along the back, one will be an apartment building with more weird stuff going on inside.

I'm doing a similar topper. Did you do a repaint on that Godzilla? Mine came in a charcoal gray color.......

Yes, I did repaint him.

That is impressive! Please share a pic post install if you want!
I managed to finish the install late last night and I couldn't be happier with the results. Here's a few pics before I run off to work, I'll post some more details later today.

I think I picked those up from Brian's toys online about a year ago. Here's a post from earlier in this thread that shows the boxes so you know which model you're looking for. https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/stern-godzilla-mod-thread/page/25#post-6853499

That is just outSTANDing
"fires have broken out in the building" absolutely loving the light show on this, I put in some comet star post fire bulbs on two of the floors, star post White on two of the floors and used a red filter over the existing mothra spotlight. After playing for a little bit today I realized I had a hotspot (one of the LED lights was peeking through a damaged area directly into the eyes of the player) so I added some fire over the hotspot. Now the fire is backlit and it solves that in your face problem. I eventually plan to replace all the buildings along the back wall with similar structures. Up next is a repaint of mechagodzilla and finally putting my saber Jets in place. Love this game!

Got this installed today and while it looks awesome it is longer than the stock shooter rod. This causes the ball to sit directly on the rubber tip instead of the metal forks of the auto plunge. Going to have to find a longer barrel spring for the outside or add some more washers to pull the tip back.

Any idea how much the rod needs to be pulled back? 1/8" or more?

Yeah, washers on the shooter rod between the small external spring and shooter rod housing outside the cabinet will push the shooter rod tip away from the ball. Washers on the inside of the cabinet between the big spring and assembly will push it closer.
Spring tensions will also play into it.
Quoted from Markharris2000:Any idea how much the rod needs to be pulled back? 1/8" or more? I received the same cool looking shooter but have not installed yet.
Hard for me to exactly capture but I think it needs 2 additional washers over what’s there already. The first pic shows the ball resting on the rubber tip and the second shows how far back I have to pull the plunger to get it resting on the forks. I may try getting a slightly larger barrel spring or 3d printing a spacer as well. Strummy can probably fix this in subsequent runs pretty easily.

We were so focused on all of the other aspects of the mod that this got by us. We did use what are supposed to be standard size Stern shooter rods and Game play was not affected on my game so I actually never discovered this issue.
It's looking like 2 washers will resolve the issue. I will make sure tomorrow. We will be happy to provide everyone who purchased this 1st run with the necessary parts to rectify this problem.

It really is a minor issue and didn't affect gameplay from what I've seen either. I didn't even realize the Godzilla shooter rod wasn't a standard size, so I figured I would just make sure everyone is aware. Should be an easy adjustment.

Just so as not so confuse people going forward, Godzilla uses the standard Stern shooter rod. Same as every other game.
I purchase them from Pinball Life for my monster egg shooter and they install without issue. Perhaps the stack up is not correct upon reinstalling?

Thanks for the clarification! This custom rod is definitely bigger than stock when lined up from the flat point where the barrel spring will make contact. No big deal though, I 3d printed a custom spacer and now the ball sits on the metal forks and the rubber tip is just behind it. Works perfectly now!

Considering how unfun that looks to bump your leg into (or a small childs face), I'd recommend just making future ones with the right length shooter rod (instead of adding spacers) so the handle doesn't stick out any further than necessary
Curious which rods Strummy used as I’m developing a shooter rod for a couple of games.
I brought these https://www.pinballlife.com/stern-knobless-shooter-rod.html

Those are the ones I buy as well for these https://pinside.com/pinball/market/shops/1437-performance-pinball/07732-godzilla-shooter-rod-pro-premium-le-
Shooter rods are one of those things in pinball which are standard dimensions. I would hesitate to push a narrative that there are differences on these games. I can measure a Williams rod to compare as well but should also be the same dimensionally.
Whenever I’ve gotten a replacement shooter rod from pinball life or Marcos they’re about 1/8-1/4 inch longer than a stock stern rod.
Quoted from Tommy_Pins:Whenever I’ve gotten a replacement shooter rod from pinball life or Marcos they’re about 1/8-1/4 inch longer than a stock stern rod.
Same here, but its easier to grind off a bit than add length. I prefer them to be longer. 2 minutes on a bench grinder and it's all good
Quoted from Hayfarmer:Same here, but its easier to grind off a bit than add length. I prefer them to be longer. 2 minutes on a bench grinder and it's all good
The problem with grinding is you usually have to do that to the end where the tip rubber sits, making that end smaller. IMHO, the 'better' way would be to grind the knob end, but with various threads and pressfit knurl finishes on that end, it makes it hard to do so. I always wondered why shooter rods came in several lengths. I see them with the functional portion (up to the affixment area) at 7 5/8, 7 3/4, 7 7/8
I suppose I need to measure a stock Spike2 rod to get the final answer....
So we came up with a nylon washer solution and we figured we will lose the existing steel washer and replace it with a nylon one as well. We think it gives better continuity to have it go brass, nylon than brass, steel, nylon. We'll be sending these out to everyone who purchased this run.
Again, we are sorry for our mistake. Feel free to reach out to me and we will be going through our records as well to see who already received these. Thanks for everyone's support!

Before I put anymore time into it, would there be much interest in a moving/collapsing bridge for the pro? That would shake and fall apart similar to the prem/le but in the pros case around the wireform.

I know there's gonna be a few people that respond "No the pro is the best! so much flow!" but for this title, where Prem outsells Pro 3 to 1, I have to think that the majority of Pro owners are arcades or owners that were pinching pennies and probably not buying a lot of expensive mods. I think the money in mod making for this pin is on the Prem side, as crowded/saturated as that market may be.
One mod that would probably sell well is the spinning mecha-GZ head. A guy did it, said he wasn't selling it. steal the idea! search the thread for "sirlonzelot", he took down his vids but still discusses it a bit.
1. it fits the clips on the LCD
2. it looks cool as hell
3. someone already proved the concept, seems easy to integrate
4. doesn't add junk to an already crowded playfield (i have started opting out of some cool looking mods just because it got too busy looking)
slam dunk imo . and it works just as well for Pro!
The mecha Godzilla itself is $90 on PBL. Buy some. Make some mods, and then start doing an exchange. / core charge.
"spinning mecha godzilla, $200 if you ship me your MGZ, otherwise $300 with a $90 refund if you send me your old MGZ afterwards"
Slap a custom paint job on there for an extra $100 to really bring him to life (an hour maybe to spray metallic, shade, and highlight)

Spinning mecha head - sounds cool for sure. My wife would probably want it as she loves what Mecha does now and if his head could spin or arms moved she would be all over it.

I think it's VERY easy to go full dollhouse on Godzilla and it's important to resist the temptation.
With the exception of the painfully empty area around the right ramp all the mods I've installed enhance existing playfield features rather than add to them. A better Kaiju Battle sign is a must. A better Godzilla is nice. The stock saucer plastic is BORING. And something to replace that god awful Mothra plastic to the left of the right ramp is a huge improvement. But I'll never understand covering every square inch of the playfield with a toy. Being able to see the ball the majority of the time really adds to the kinetic satisfaction Elwin speaks of.
Hopefully I'll be getting a NIB JP within the next 4-5 weeks. And I'm going to refrain from modding it much at all. I upgraded my Godzilla because 'It's a Godzilla! The best pin EVAR!'. But as I add more machines to my collection I'm going to resist the urge to change the original design as much.

Yeah. GZ was my first pin so i went kind of nuts. just over $1300 deep or so on mods and who knows how much Davey will bleed me for before it's all over on that backboard. second pin LOTR also went nuts. but #3 and #4 Sorcerer/MMR I am leaving totally as is and future pins I'll decide on case by case basis on modding the playfield.
If Stern had "packages" you could add to your pin, instead of 3 tiers. that would be really cool.
Premium Sound package (incl amp and upgraded cab speaker, shaker)
Cabinet package (cab decals, backglass, art blades, powder coat)
Playfield sculpt package (visual mods to replace plastics with sculpted pieces, more than current prem levels)
Pro -> Premium is all about gameplay changing mechs/features. $2k instead of $2700.
charge $1-2k each "package". LE is all of them with the signed apron, etc and maybe exclusive color or something.
That would be cool. I appreciate all the mod makers but I think it would be cool to have the visual cohesion of that playfield sculpt package.
Visual cohesion is a good point. So many mods lack
tight integration with the original package. But I suppose that's to be expected even when good judgement is used. Too many cooks in the kitchen can be a problem even when they're talented.
Quoted from AMartin56:So many mods lack
tight integration with the original package.
You make a good point, Godzilla has so many options for modding-one can lose control
I do want to give a shout out to Pino Pinball mods for his King Ghidorah mod. I purchased the painted metallic gold one and I have to say it feels like it belongs in the game with the reflective Mecha and Godzilla figurines. It has a perfect mounting bracket and it fits in the corner like it was from factory(looks really classy-best mod for corner). I also highlighted the figurine with a golden yellow LED spot and it makes it pop-highly recommend...

No, grinding it will actually make the tip bigger, and then you can resize it if needed. The tip is tapered , so as you grind it will increase in size, not get smaller . I've done it on a custom shooter , easy 5 minute fix.
