Stern posted their usual question today about future Marvel movies. Some guy probably thought they were fishing for interest in a future game and wrote "fix XM and TF before you make another game"
His comment was removed within a minute. Then I wrote a bunch of stuff criticizing how they remove every comment that is not glowing and may be deemed as constructive. My post lasted about 20 min!!!!HAHAHA

How pathetic that a company just deletes and ignores customers. That is not how you do business in any form. You address the issue or send them a PM with some sort of response. The business that I work for gets a few negative comments on our page and we make it right and turn them into lifelong customers. I got deleted and I may never buy one of their games(probably not true, I want XM).

I really love most Stern machines and want them to be successful, so I hope that they figure out a better way to operate their facebook page and customer relations in general. I think that if you are going to post a question on a public forum, be ready for all responses good or bad. If you put out polished games with finished code, maybe you will get the glowing reviews that you are looking for(and not have to manipulate Facebook).

In conclusion, their Facebook management is cowardly.

    #2 11 years ago

They deleted me from their facebook feed (removed me from "liking" them) when i said i'd be playing my own games because i couldn't find an ac/dc to play locally. This was in response to their usual "where will you be playing pinball this weekend" question.

    #3 11 years ago

Yep... That was my comment.... They just lost a fan and supporter..

    #4 11 years ago

Happened to me a couple months back when they said they would be selling their pins in Best Buy.

Best Buy would offer them for sale for a lot less than the local pinball shop sold em for. I called them out on price asking why Best Buy would be able to sell em for about $800 less than the local guy, and why they were not supporting the pinball shop but they would for Big Box. Two comments deleted within a minute or two, big time cowards.

Obviously Jody uses his crackberry to monitor FB.

    #6 11 years ago

They'll figure it out eventually... (hopefully)

It's not Jody's fault supposedly. His hands are tied from the big guys above (Gary/Investors). I think the big money guys don't understand how crucial communication is now that you're selling to collectors instead of operators who simply don't care as long as the coin mechs work on location...

No smart company is going to leave any type of negative remark on their Facebook page.

You know this, don't act surprised.

    =

Facebook is for fans of products and for little girls to keep in touch with their friends.

    #8 11 years ago

Yep. I was commenting on your comment Jason. I got banned too. I even asked politely to not delete my posts!!!!!!!!!! I really am in shock to be treated like this. Makes me want more companies to start making great games and teach them a lesson.

    OFN.....

Facebook is not where you go to complain about Stern. You send them direct messages, you do it in public forums, or you start a blog and do it there. A company's Facebook page is basically a virtual lobby to their business. If some guy came in and stood out in front of the receptionist's desk and started ranting about the company, I'm sure security would escort them out.

That said, I do think they're far too heavy handed with their moderating. It's way too controlled of a conversation.

Their page, they can run it as they see fit.

Your money, you can spend it as you see fit.

Vid1900 you are 100% wrong. No smart company would create an atmosphere where so many people want to post negative comments on your Facebook page. Smart companies respond to negative comments with a contact number and a resolution. In fact I am surprised because this is 2013, where behavior like this drives companies out of business.

Damn You Lloyd! There you go again with rationality and common sense! You jackass!

    #14 11 years ago

Of course they can run it as they see fit. It is their page. That being said, are they running it correctly? Nope.

Exactamundo! I won't buy any of their machines new or used as a result of this slight! Honest! I won't even play them on route. Sorry, LTG!

jar155, you may be right on that. I would not go out of my way to bash Stern on FB. I love their games. But it seems that the consensus on Pinside, is that critical emails to Stern, do not get responses. Every email should eventually get a response. I cannot wrap my head around a company ignoring the customer in any capicity. Oh well....it is just pinball.

    #19 11 years ago
    Quoted from davewtf:

I won't even play them on route. Sorry, LTG!

I appreciate your input. I do listen to my customers, for good reason. It guides me in decisions about my business.

    Thank you for your honesty.

    LTG : )

    #20 11 years ago

I don't see why people get so upset that Stern would remove negative comments from their Facebook page. The fact that it has been happening forever and people still feel the need to post a rant about it is also quite funny.

    #21 11 years ago
    Quoted from kingfishtr:

Every email should eventually get a response.

I used to think that. This past year I've received emails from people at Stern, to which I promptly replied.

    And my response ignored.

    LTG : )

    #22 11 years ago

Ignoring emails is a bad business decision.

    #23 11 years ago

I run a business that relies on FB for a lot of marketing and advertising. I would probably remove a negative comment, but not before addressing the issue with the consumer. For a company like Stern it's just easier to remove and move on, sad but true...

    Quoted from LTG:

No problem. I wish i were closer to the T.C. so i could put a little money in your pocket a bit more often. I'll put that money in your other games instead, I'm not boycotting you.

    #25 11 years ago

YZRider926 , the comments were not negative. Jason asked them to update TF and XM code. Now if he had bashed the company verbally...remove the comments.

I simply asked why his comments were removed and I voiced my opinion that I felt it was a bad decision to heavily censor the comments....bang removed!

Pathetic. It send the wrong message to those who really enjoy their games!

I think its because people are just frustrated with the lack of communication Stern has with its fanbase. They are feeling ignored, and unfortunately their facebook page isn't the forum they want it to be to air grievances.

    Quoted from DrStarkweather:

and unfortunately their facebook page isn't the forum they want it to be to air grievances.

Who wants negative posts on their FB. Cmon, no one does. But you expect a person or company to keep them up on theirs.
    FB is a marketing tool.
Flood their email boxes with complaints but dont be shocked that they run their page exactly as intended.

    #28 11 years ago

I hear you guys on wanting to get the message across to Stern about code updates. I can also relate, I own both TF and XM, I want to see them too. I just don't think FB is the way to go. It seems like a lot of the comments that get deleted come off as cheap shots against them. I don't blame them for removing comments like that.

They are applying their filter a bit too liberally for my tastes, is all. They are free to do so, i just won't consider them a viable option as a consequence. I'm sure i'm not the only one.

    Quoted from davewtf:

Certainly your choice. Although their customer service is well known as outstanding. They return every call and email.
Not buying because you bought an Xmen and dont like the code makes sense. Not buying because of FB is down right silly.

    #32 11 years ago

This is such a stupid complaint. Stern's Facebook page is a media and marketing tool. It's not a forum for Letters to the Editor, nor are they expected to indulge complaints on their own social media page. If you have a complaint about Stern, call them or send a letter or e-mail to them. If you have to make it public, then you have the appropriate forum here and on RPG. No company is going to let you piss all over their FB page, nor should they be expected to.

Absolutely true. Stern knows. Stern knows you guys want your code updates. But they don't communicate that, on their facebook page or otherwise. Thats were the disconnect is. If friday morning instead of 'Where are you playing pinball this weekend?' they wrote 'Working hard on code updates and making great Stern games!' it would pour a little water the temper of the guys they are banning. But the silence is just infuriating to people Im sure.

    #34 11 years ago

I have to disagree with a lot of these posts, except Davewth.
Facebook is a means to connect with your customers. That means, when they write you questions on your wall, you answer them. If they write something to is negative or uncalled for...delete it and ignore/ban them.

They do not respond to any questions that you ask them. They do not know how to use FB. They use it in a strange way, that makes you feel even more disconnected from the company that so many of us enjoy. They are shooting themselves in the foot.

I honestly thought that after I posted a nice question on their FB thread(not negative), that if I was deleted, someone would answer me privately. Not a chance.

    #35 11 years ago

Come on now if some chick posted on your Facebook page that you couldn't hook up with (insert hot chick name here) because you never broke it off with Tina and (chicks name that starts with an x) and said don't delete the post cause she wants everybody to know your no good your it gonna delete it?

    #36 11 years ago

that is not even relevant. Sorry

    #37 11 years ago

There aren't "rules" for FB. I can use my FB page however I wish, within FB's policy. If one company is very interactive with their customers through FB, and another isn't, you merely have an opinion on who is using it "right".

    #38 11 years ago
    Quoted from kingfishtr:

that is not even relevant. Sorry

It sounds more relevant than a non Stern owner complaining about how they use their FB page.

    #39 11 years ago

Yeah it is what im saying is for businesses with 200 employees, everything is personal it's not this corporate mass that some expect. These are people not the big corporate machine, "the man" or whatever. Cut them some slack, with their knowledge bases im sure they could all do different jobs with great pay and not take near the heat they get. When they go home at night they are still thinking about what you anonymously post because they are real. Don't go to their place and cause a scene with a snippy comment just send them an email or call.

The posts on Facebook aren't anonymous.

And people that make them are real, and have feelings too.

    That's a two way street.

I think just about everyone in pinball has a love-hate relationship with Stern Pinball. We need to remember from Stern's side this is a business, and we shouldn't take things personally.

    #44 11 years ago

Exactly LTG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Couldn't agree more. I have been a huge Stern fan, until they deleted me.

Ummmmmmm........................ For me it's a business too.

I don't hate them. And I do wish them every success. I hope things keep rolling for them.

i'd love to get in peoples face after they've typed stupid ish on facebook. it's real easy to talk behind a computer. the world is not the same. stern probably gets a ton of stupid posts, can't blame them for deleting it.

It's THEIR Facebook page. I would have deleted you too for being a tool.

Sorry, Facebook is for fans and little girls. It is not a Help Desk for corporations.

Stern has a toll free number on all their games (just in case you don't have a game it's: 800-KICKERS ), that is where you can call to get any complaints addressed immediately.

    =

The company I work for deletes any negative Facebook comments instantly. This, I'm sure, does not surprise any intelligent person.

We have forums, toll free phone numbers and email in place that can deal with any problem or complaint much more effectively than a Facebook page.

Put a negative comment on Ford's, Apple's or Chase's Facebook and see how long it stays before it's deleted. You are dreaming if you think they are going to keep it up.

    #49 11 years ago

Per LTG's response, Just noticed my use of "you" didn't mean it literally, sorry kingfishtr wasn't singling you out just trying to reduce the negativity.

    #50 11 years ago

The comment was never negative. Not sure where everyone got that. Continue to call me names, and the guy that wants to get in my face...grow up loser. Send me a PM if you are serious about getting in my face.
