Stern, 2004Hey I have a question for you guys, I have a neighbor who had some work done on a Stern Elvis, Sounds like he cleaned the game, installed LED’s and put in a NVRam chip. I don’t know if immediately or sometime after the game will only play the game sounds at max volume. So it’s either max or off. If volume setting is 0 it is off but if you increase it to 1 it goes max volume.
Any ideas what could cause this and what I could check for? Thanks
Did you check the resistors?
The R106 and R110 control the analog volume.
When these resistors are broken (open) the analog volume goes to 100% and can't be controlled via the buttons (digital volume) on the coin door.
The higher the resistor value the higher the volume.
Can anyone help me out I want to order these 2 resistor’s but I am having trouble finding the exact ones with the same color bands, R106 and R110 shown in picture below. The correct resistor values should be 33K ohms 1/4 watt for R110 (ORG-ORG-ORG-GOLD), and 10K ohms 1/4 watt for R106 (BRN-BLK-ORG-GOLD).

I had a machine that had same type of issue. I went into diagnostic menus and did a factory reset and it actually fixed it…It is worth trying so I thought I would suggest it. The machine we had was missing sounds and volume control was all over the place. The reset fixed it to our surpise.

You will most likely have the 520-5300-00 version.
