Stern has manufacturing delays on their OWN titles?Where does that leave MMr?

#90 7 years ago
Quoted from seenev:

then you just stop hearing from them and everyone starts speculating and assuming the worst, and the company does nothing to curb the rumors.

yep

#365 7 years ago
Quoted from frolic:

They used to only generally have 2 production games. I think their business model has changed, to allow these licenses open far longer, and now they have 10 games listed as in production. They then can make the games "as needed" in as small a quantity as they want.
I think the last game to be retired was ac/dc, and that was a while back.

10 games in production!!!! Man they're bigger than B/W was during the 90s Renaissance .

Is Stern making/building MMr?

#371 7 years ago

Good I hope the delays don't effect MMr.People have been waiting a long time.I wonder what's the priority at Stern.
Is it based on sales?MMr is back ordered as you would think that would be first.I mean those games are paid for.
Love to be a fly on the wall to see/hear how that deal goes down.

Love the gameplay on GoT LE.but all the art packages are horrible.Friend of mine is a big time graphic artist in NYC.Does lots of books and cd covers, anyway he "tolerates" my pinball addiction whenever we go out for beers.I took him to a bar:2 games Got and TWD.Asked him what he thought and he went on a 20 minute diatribe on how badly done the Photoshopping is on Stern games.
"Photoshopping is cheesy enough but get a technician who knows the program,it looks like my 8 year old did it."

A couple of random observations
I never really cared for Data East or Sega games.re:Stern

If you can't stand the heat(criticism)get out of the kitchen(pinside)and hide because your games are shipped incomplete,or years late,or not at all. This is the state of NIB pinball.

In all my years of talking discussing pinball on here or RGP,I've yet to see one post or thread pro or con that makes Stern or any other of the manufacturers change the way they do things.

All we do is rile each other up.Common denominator:We all love pinball. So chill?

Quoted from flynnibus:

Gary reading the tea leaves about the economy recovering.

Been slashing and cutting since they had the industry to themselves.Bad or good economy doesn't seem to matter.

Barely any talk of them putting an LCD in their games anymore.JJp pushed Stern, but only so far.Stern will (try) and outlast all newcomers.

What start up,even JJP,who I love,could survive a flop without pre order money?Only Stern.

Quoted from Manimal:

From talking with a few guys that still exist from that world, I think it was a lot of different factors, the biggest being the company was making too much money in the gaming world. In those days money was no object for any of us, and everything was in excess. The slot market was growing by leaps and bounds....it was exciting, and people were lining up at the door to buy games. Pinball was caught in a technologically evolving market, and it just lost it's place. Video games were taking over, and everyone expected pinball to die in it's current form. As Vid said, pinball has been made the same way for 100 years, and very few things can survive that long without evolving. People lost interest, and sales declined. The funny part is watching the parallel between pinball and slot machines. Pinball kept its mechanical form and managed to survive, and now is making a slow comeback. Time will tell if that comeback is sustained. Slots on the other hand had to evolve into electronic games. It took a long time for people to give up the mechanical reels, but they finally did, and now all they want are video games and bonus rounds with cartoon flying pigs. Always amazes me ...........

Videogames killed pinball.Check and see how many,of what we all consider A titles, come from the 80s.not much, personal preference aside.Pinball was never the same.Never.Gottlieb,gone.Williams sells to Bally.

Bally has shareholders and forecasters.Gambling was about to become legal in several states.Forecasters tell share holders ,cheaper to make, doesn't brake,we can sell 10000s to the new casinos.Pinball has lost its appeal, video is where its at.Its too expensive and costly maintain.Look at the numbers MK is doing. Now look at the pinball sales.Video wins.Gambling wins.

Tilt:The Battle to save pinball is great doc about the end days, sad but true.

Money talks.Pinball walks.....

Without some type of innovation that really captures the public imagination, pinball is just on life support.
some type of gambling pinball machine might actually not be a bad thing.

If you can't beat em,join em

Quoted from flynnibus:

Reposting from another thread... For those of you who were not in the hobby back in 2005-2011.. and wonder what people are talking about with Gary Stern's approach to things..
Turn back the clock to 2008, when after Stern has been struggling and the economy is really headed south he basically lays off everyone in design sans a handful of people. Here you have Keith Johnson, a player turned game coder and designer hang out some dirty laundry about what happened inside Stern... and then you get 'The King', Steve Ritchie himself chiming in on what was wrong.
https://groups.google.com/forum/m/#!msg/rec.games.pinball/pt79ouRvHpw/IFsx_cjge1UJ
It should be very eye opening for those who only know the 2011 and later years of being in the hobby.
Probably more shocking for people is realizing just how dead people thought the industry had gotten and no one saw any light at the end of the tunnel.

Yeah I remember it well.At PAPA I had a conversation with someone who worked for Stern.Said they were 2 weeks from packing it in before the dudes in black suits came in and streamlined and saved Stern.

Maybe there is delays because they're finishing the software.

#845 7 years ago

MMr not on list in email.

#871 7 years ago
Quoted from txstargazer3:

I think he is talking about the spelling on the letter rather than the spelling on the playfield.

Both suck

#878 7 years ago
Quoted from flynnibus:

grab your pitchforks over some stupid typos in an internal email

But about the stupid typos on their games?what would you suggest rather than a pitchfork

2 weeks later

Quoted from Mitch:

you should never pre order

words of wisdom

#987 7 years ago
Quoted from Superchicken:ompanies like Highway, JJP and Dutch Pinball will rethink their openness during the design phase going forward.

Not when you ask for pre order$.Havent you've been paying attention.Pre order types want updates ,pictures, newsletter ,their own closed blog groups and shit.

#994 7 years ago
Quoted from Superchicken:

Well I think the pre-order model has probably run its course also.

Steve Ritchie and Roger Sharpe announce new pinball co.

First game is Star Wars with a custom Rush soundtrack!!!

And just like that the pre order is back!!!!
