Quoted from o-din:

Thanks for the tip, but I'm in my element wherever I go. Or wherever I may roam. If you don't agree with what somebody says, then thumbs down. It don't hurt my feelings. And whatever I say shouldn't hurt yours.

Pinside's algorithm says I can only do that a few times per thread. "Thumbs abuse", I think they call it.

No offense, but this isn't your fight. You mostly collect super-sweet EMs, and you're not going to buy a new Stern unless they do Jimi Hendrix (hey, we can dream). Like it or not, Stern is building the games that Pinsiders begged them to build. There were threads about GB and GOT long before the games were released.

Strikes me as funny that o-din is telling us all how Stern should do original themes, and enough with franchises... in a thread that's about Sterns inability to keep up with demand.

#353 7 years ago

Mob mentality will always say that somebody that doesn't see eye to eye with the majority and speaks his mind accordingly should keep his opinions to himself and his mouth shut. I was asked a question earlier in this thread and I answered it with the only truth I know.

If this is only about delays, I heard it was because they are having problems with the supply of playfields. But that is second hand information so I don't know if it's true or not.

Quoted from TigerLaw:

LOL! You act like these licenses are old and stale (Metallica and GB both being from the 80's and all)...but let's face it, a hot license is a hot license regardless of age...some licenses are timeless (such as WOZ, not my cup of tea but certainly timeless).

"...not my cup of tea..." Are you serious?!? I guess you are going to send me a dress for my birthday now - No ban votes based on very old historical posts please

When you suggested "original theme" were you not actually thinking "suggestively titled innuendo-fest"? E.g. Eager Beaver and The Wiggler. It sells!

Funny! As much as I like original themes I never said I was totally against licensed themes. In fact at one time when they would show up in the arcades they were pretty cool and always a surprise. I could name quite a few. But that's when there was a little more variety and a lot less emphasis on only one short period of the past.

I've been around pinball a long time and the themes of late just aren't new enough, original enough, cutting edge enough, or even the kind of classic I like enough for me. But I'm glad those that are spending all their money on them are getting the themes that suit them.

If I see some thing I like, you know I'll buy it! No matter who makes it. If I say nothing it aint never going to happen. The way things are going it probably won't anyway, so maybe I am just wasting my time.

Do casinos use original themes anymore?

#358 7 years ago

are we thinking GB premium is like sept now ??

#359 7 years ago

What games are still in active production? It sounds like Stern needs to start retiring games as new games are announced!

I was just on a cruise and they had Double Diamond; Red, White and Blue; and quite a few original theme games with huge video screens.

They used to only generally have 2 production games. I think their business model has changed, to allow these licenses open far longer, and now they have 10 games listed as in production. They then can make the games "as needed" in as small a quantity as they want.

I think the last game to be retired was ac/dc, and that was a while back.

No... they need to get the factory up to full capacity. Sales are exceeding production, the name of the game makes no difference.

Generally, each new game is in production for 3 years.

10 games in production!!!! Man they're bigger than B/W was during the 90s Renaissance .

Bigfoot was probably sharing a beer with Gary Stern while they took turns rolling in hundred dollar bills too!

That attitude isn't going to make the games ship any faster Mister!

Well... theoretically anyway. Lately it seems like "zero."

Is Stern making/building MMr?

#370 7 years ago

i was there last week in the factory and there were lots of MMr playfields and some MMr games in various forms of completion. So yes, Stern is still making them...

Good I hope the delays don't effect MMr.People have been waiting a long time.I wonder what's the priority at Stern.
Is it based on sales?MMr is back ordered as you would think that would be first.I mean those games are paid for.
Love to be a fly on the wall to see/hear how that deal goes down.

I would expect any delays have more to do with getting in supply for parts specific to any particular job. Stern doesn't start a batch on the line until they've got whatever is needed for that batch checked in to inventory. So things not getting done on schedule is either a supplier issue or a manpower issue -- and the supply seems much more likely.

Also, their production videos posted on Facebook indicate many line workers do not possibly speak English as their primary language, so training and conveying information to them could be a challenge.

The population of Chicago is 30% Hispanic, so there is no lack of highly qualified, Spanish speaking engineers to train and instruct Hispanic/Latino employees.

How much more of a Spanish name can you get than George Gomez??

Last July, Whites became less than 50% of the USA's population. Get used to it.

#374 7 years ago

They just did another live stream from the factory. Looks like lots of GB LE's are on the line today.

#375 7 years ago

I saw tons of GB LE, some ST Pros, and some MMRs. Probably some more, but I was only checking in periodically.

In Ca. it's really not a problem as we like Mexican food!

#377 7 years ago

Well into the LE production! Assuming the software is ready, we should start seeing shipments within the next week!

I thought he was Gomez and Morticia first born.

Under the age of 5, you mean. The general population won't become minority-majority until sometime around 2050.

These guys knew..

#384 7 years ago

I noticed at the 4:30 mark, I saw a single coin slot. So I guess these are for the overseas market that are currently on the line.

#385 7 years ago

Kidding aside, Stern should run as many lines as they want if games in demand are there for it!!
We will soon witness the power of their armed and fully operational battle station!

Missed the point. Point was, it's hard to keep quality tight when there's a lot of turnover and also many workers aren't fluent in English, which complicates training new employees. Trust me, I'm used to it.

Stern pays and treats their employees well. You can talk to them if you ever visit, most employees before the move had been there over a dozen years.

In Chicago, speaking Spanish does not complicate any employee training.

The only complication is if you only speak English.

What makes you think there's a high turnover @ Stern? It's my understanding that some of their employees have been with them for years.

He doesn't think...he just posts. He makes up a narrative in his thread of high turnover @ Stern and just runs with it.

#392 7 years ago
Quoted from foureyedcharlie:

Alot of guys have heard about delays at Stern right now. The new factory was supposed to be able to build at a much higher volume, but there must be a huge supply chain problem. GB is the only pin shipping and my distributor said his GB's are slowly coming in at max 4 per week, which is hurting his bottom line because of shipping costs. He also has WD and GOT on backorder. I tried to order a Kiss pro many weeks ago and my distributor called to try and figure out the timeline.....they had no plans or idea when kiss would be run again, its all GB right now. I've also heard that GB pro is being delayed until July from some folks here. I love Stern and don't want this to be a bash thread. Does anyone know what is causing the delays? Seems like these delays started about 6 months ago...... Playfields? Cabinets? Hardware?......

They only build 55 games a day with all the games they have hard to catch up http://www.industryweek.com/operations/manufacturing-wizards-stern-pinball#slide-0-field_images-280831

Only 55 a day? Some companies don't produce that much in a year ...

#395 7 years ago

ONLY? That is 1,100 games a month. Sounds pretty good to me.

Considering I work with companies totaling over $10B in market capitalization, many with 24/7/365 production lines, I can tell you that a production line environment is a very high turnover type of job position. But go ahead and make up that you know more then me about this and run with it as well. I know first hand. I deal with these types of companies every day, for the past 10+ years.

Have you talked to people at Stern or visited Stern? It's different than the usual "production line" type of factory.

...and guessing you have insight and extensive knowledge of production lines, especially at Stern? True, I do not know the inner workings of Stern, obviously. My original post was based on my experience of businesses with production lines, and how they operate. I guess you must know how Stern and its business is ran, and how their turnover rate is first-hand and have more knowledge then me on the subject. My bad.

I'd love to hear how different then it is compared to medical device manufacturing, consumer electronics manufacturing, furniture manufacturing, auto parts manufacturing, etc. and why turnover would be any different then the aforementioned industries.
