Bottom line, if they were more open and honest about the progress people wouldn’t be in panic mode. I think if they came out and said don’t worry, we’re a year behind because of rewrites but it’s getting there and this is where we are.....people would be ok. But people feel like they were ripped off and feel taken advantage of by the lack of communication. I don’t think it’s too much to ask for quarterly q and a’s for anything in Kickstarter. Just good business.

This is just sad beyond belief. I’m so sorry for you guys. I really hope all ends well.

    All ten.

So it started two months ago, and the first book will ship in two more. THAT’s how it should be done! Not a year or two...

It’s obvious this thing is no where near done. The pin community has been strung along, and taken advantage of. If toddtuckey can get a book deal consummated and finished in a few months time....really makes these guys look bad.

“How to fleece a trusting community” I believe they named it. And shame on them forever.

    Quoted from JoeDP:

    Hello Pinside,
My name is Joseph Rubinstein, I am one of the co-founders of PaperFlock inc, and am helping develop this book for Stern Pinball.
I would like to personally answer your questions and address your concerns.
Here are a list of things I think I can address in this thread, please feel free to message me if I left something out.

#3. Will the book come out if funded?
Yes. The book will definitely come out if funded.
As I stated above I have a long history with crowdfunding /crowdsourcing (https://www.kickstarter.com/profile/joedp) and my partner Dameon has a long history with printing. I have created and delivered on Kickstarter campaigns in the past. We are here, our reputation is on the line, Stern's reputation is on the line, I guarantee the book will come out if it gets funded.

    Remember this joe? We do.

He guaranteed the book would come out. Sounds like a personal guarantee to me, possible avenue for class action lawsuit.

If he’s got money to party in Vegas, he’s got money to refund the backers. He personally guaranteed this thing would get made. It hasn’t. Time to refund.

    #1345 5 years ago

I bet they answer a class action lawsuit.

Let’s think about this for a minute. In the time paperflock has pissed away, stern was able to develop, build, and ship 8 new games. 8 entire machines including two different architectures. How f’n long does it take to write a shitty book???

    #1594 4 years ago

And what about all the promised extras for the different tiers??

    Quoted from grantopia:

I have a super nice Baywatch and actually sent them a message after that backer email looking for games to shoot, thinking it would be cool to have my game in a book (and maybe help get this done...). Dameon emailed me and then we exchanged numbers and had a few conversations on the phone in early September and arranged a date for him to come by and get pictures of the game with his photographer near the end of September since he is actually local to Ohio. Never heard back from him after that and he never came or said anything about it. I never followed up with him but not feeling great about it...

Because they don’t care. They’re not making the book. That joker took the money and went on vacation. They took us all for suckers. imho.

So if kickstarter suspended paperflock, that would imply they acknowledge impropriety. Is it possible they could issue refunds? And what of sterns responsibility here. They”partnered”, in their own words, with paperflock on this. Dont they have an obligation to make this right?

Ok, so im also over on klov and just ordered a 267 pg hardcover book from england. Book, plus shipping is £25, or about $34. How the hell can Joe charge what he is?

    https://forums.arcade-museum.com/threads/new-book-missile-commander-available-now.480535/

Maybe its media mail vs priority, but considering the book and shipping is less than either alone, that guy is just a jerk.

I suspect many will take them up on that

Agreed. How much would rights for a book such as this one even be? Surely Stern would have some sort of say in any transaction as well.

    Quoted from cait001:

Ooooo looks cool, what is the book like? Is it an art book, or more of a historical book?

Historical, with some color pics , drawings, and photos. But not stuffy history, more like a buddy with inside knowledge telling a story. Definitely a required read for atari enthusiasts. Not to hijack the thread, but just wanted to show some people know how to ship trans atlantic for pennies compared to joedp.

    Quoted from PinMonk:

It's nice to see that they really spent a lot of time making the pictures look consistent and great like they said they were going to with photo retouching.
But that's not the worst of it - did they REALLY go to print calling George Takei "George Taki"? REALLY? No one proofed this in ALL THE EXTRA TIME they had available?? Can't wait to see what raw treasures are on the other pages...
    [quoted image]

Look at the group pic on lower right. Now find the guy in white shirt/shorts standing on the far left. Next to him his a reflection. They photographed a picture laying on a table! Couldnt even be bothered to scan a photo.... explains why middle is sharper than edges, because the photo is bowed and laying on a table. My fourteen yr old could do better.
