Steve's been working on this since before GOT was announced in September 2015, I think. And if they announce it or show a prototype in Orlando, that doesn't necessarily mean they have to start shipping them until later this year. It's just to advertise and get more sales from Star Wars nerds.

    Quoted from frolic:

This is often said, but really how often does a superfan "outside of pinball" spontaneously buy a pinball machine because they like the theme?
I can see superfans dropping quarters or dollars into a machine on location, but it takes a special type of person to buy something the value of a pinball machine.
To me, there is very little potential of selling pinball machines to people outside the hobby. It comes down to existing pinheads who buy crazy shit already, and operators where a hot license can mean more coin drop.
I think the KISS Army not buying up the KISSs confirmed for me that there isn't much potential, if at all.

Star Wars fans are a whole different breed. I think they're superfans on an entirely different level from KISS fans. Just look at the ultra expensive VIP tickets for the show that have already sold out, and the fact that people will most likely be showing up in costume for this one (which is why I'll be steering clear). I think they'll buy a pin...especially when you consider what they'll pay for rare toys and collectibles.

EDIT: KISS is also a dying franchise, which is why they don't sell out stadiums anymore (and they don't even have all the real members). Once Disney bought the Star Wars franchise, they made it a hot ticket again.

    Quoted from Trekkie1978:

I was programmed at a young age to only care about Star Wars.
I'll never forget when I was in the 3rd grade, Disney had opened up Star Tours in California. I begged my mom to take me to Disneyland just to go on that ride. I was always told no and that Disney World was better.
When we finally made it to Disney World for Christmas 1989, I remember watching the Disney World TV channel in the room the night before we went into the parks, where it shows all the rides. They kept showing the Death Star run from the ride. Needless to say, the next day when we finally go to the parks, we do MGM first and go straight to Star Tours. I was in heaven.
Rex (on the death star run) "I always wanted to do this."
    Me: "Me too!!!!!"
I've ridden Star Tours at Disney World, Disneyland and Euro Disney. What's interesting about the Euro Disney version, is the pilot spoke French, but C3PO and Red Leader spoke English (original version).
The latest thing I've read about Star Wars Land, is that Disney may charge an additional $95 on top of the park ticket just to enter Star Wars Land...and people will pay it...including this one.

And that was my point, exactly.

    Quoted from woody24:

I'd love to buy a NIB Star Wars. But there's just something in me that know's I'd probably be happier with the DE Star Wars. Unless they break out some 90's magic for this one.

The only reason you'd be happier is that you'd be saving $5000.

    Quoted from Sinestro:

This new one will make the 90's one look like Baffle Ball by comparison.

Hey, Sinestro...do you have any inside information on this? You don't live in Chicago, do you?

I think any Steve Ritchie pin that's been in development for years, and with code by Dwight or Lyman will be a home run and worth the money. I bet on GOT and it paid off, and I think it will pay off again. Then I'm done betting for a while.

    Quoted from megadeth2600:

There is no way in hell this will happen. He's not very down to Earth from what I've heard.

Harrison Ford is actually VERY down to Earth...when he's flying. And he usually lands in the wrong spot.

    #173 6 years ago
    Quoted from TheLaw:

Uff I hope not...Supercharger doesn't do much for gameplay. WE shall see though

If that's being done right on the playfield, it won't do much for the clearcoat and paint job. Mylar, anybody???

    Quoted from LewisD:

Dead Flip is going to be live streaming from the Stern factory tonight....showing "something we have never seen played." Seems a little odd for Stern to debut a brand new game on a live stream. Maybe a prototype white wood?

Maybe it's just a GOT premium without orbit issues, or a GB without ghosted inserts. Never seen those played before.

    #193 6 years ago
    Quoted from Sinestro:

Plenty of perfectly good GB's out there with no ghosting....
Like mine, my buddies, my local arcade.
Face it, only GOT has a systemic issue.

I'm sorry. You're right. I meant the stale code on GB.

    #195 6 years ago
    Quoted from Sinestro:

    LOL!
Dwight did both of ours....he'll come through.

He's too busy on SW. What's done is done.

    #200 6 years ago
    Quoted from PinMonk:

GoT has the orbit issue that was never fixed. That's not overblown QC. There's NO WAY they couldn't have known left orbits were a problem if they played the game even casually. It totally ruined Martell. And Stern's fix? To disable left orbit in the code and call it "as designed", which still didn't fix the orbit itself, but made it so it didn't kill the rules.

This is correct, and it should have never happened. But at the end of the day, it was an adjustment of the diverter by about 1/16th of an inch that solved the problem. Some smart guys figured it out and it took me 15 minutes of removal, drilling, and reinstallation to fix. (After a whole day tearing it apart to try a mod to fix it.)

But it IS a 15 minute fix. Problem is, Stern should have figured it out and fixed it in later runs. Instead, they just wimped out and disabled it in the code, saying it was always intended to be that way.

    Bull. Shit.

    #201 6 years ago
    Quoted from Sinestro:

Nah. There will be one more big GB update.

Check your ass. There may be monkeys flying out of it.

    Quoted from Sinestro:

Be ready to eat your latest restoration project when it drops

Dude...that's SO 2015. You're a new member here with only one machine, so you don't even know what you're talking about.

    #205 6 years ago
    Quoted from PinMonk:

I did the fix and it's much better but still not 100%. But where does this "you're on your own" mentality leave people that don't have the skill to make the fix? Just bad, bad decision at Stern on GoT, especially, as you said, not adjusting future builds so they work mostly right.

This is also true, and a valid point. My bad.

At least you know what you're talking about. Sinestro won't even take the glass off his Ghostbusters.

    #248 6 years ago
    Quoted from o-din:

I don't see how Star Wars can be much better. Although it is a great ride at Disneyland.

...says the guy with a purplish cartoony Batman machine. Hey...I LOVED the Batman show...when I was SEVEN! But it doesn't translate well now and most people don't even remember that show.

Star Wars just released two blockbuster movies with another on the way. Still as big as ever.

    #251 6 years ago
    Quoted from TheLaw:

Batman "just" released 2 blockbusters also. With more on the way

I call unfair comparison! Those movies are updated and TOTALLY different from the show that the game is based on. (And Batman vs. Superman sucked balls.) I'd take a Dark Knight machine way before the new one, which looks like it should come with its own set of action figures and some bubble gum.

I hereby upvote my own post. It's awesome.

Seems like longer. But Star Wars is more obsolete than both those shows. You really gotta be some kind a nerd to be a Star Wars fanboy in this day and age.

    Quoted from Rockytop:

I feel the same way others felt about Rouge One vs the Forve Awakens. I liked Rouge One a lot,

No wonder you liked it a lot. That was the porn version of Rogue One.

I don't think Jared is allowed to use Stern's Facebook page to toy with Pinsiders. If he was my employee and he did that, he'd be an ex-Jared.

    #378 6 years ago

That was a bush league move if it sticks. Way to piss off potential customers.

Unless it's a double head fake...

    #389 6 years ago
    Quoted from HighProtein:

Raw footage of the line... .. .
    » YouTube video

Thank you. I'm SO glad I took a pass on this show. The people in costume were bad enough, but that line?

    #400 6 years ago
    Quoted from Trekkie1978:

    That's why I didn't get it...I use Apple.

...and the dark side of the Force.

    Quoted from jorro:

stern has build a sw bbq?

    I can has cheezburger?

    #450 6 years ago
    Quoted from Trekkie1978:

I think JJ nailed it when he said in the interview that cancellations happen when the wife wasn't previously notified.
Prenup guys...get the pinball hobby covered in the prenups.

    Prenups=eventual divorce

Or just be up front with your wife and get whatever machine you want. Works for me.

Or just be single, buy every machine that comes out, and die alone in a bed of your own filth.

No matter which path you choose, only one thing in this hobby seems to make any sense on this particular day: Just listen to JJ when he says something...dude knows his s**t.

    #454 6 years ago
    Quoted from Trekkie1978:

    Marriage = eventual divorce

Wow, man...you are a ray of sunshine. My wife and I will never get divorced...best thing I ever did. If I didn't get married, I wouldn't be in the hobby now. We have GOT to get together so that you can share your wit and wisdom on marriage with her. Can't wait to see her face...
