Quoted from Pinhead1982:I bought some of those X-Wing game figures..
the scale of these should go well against the Falcon on the PREM & PRO.
I was in a supermarket and saw this
It looks to be the same size as the TIE fighter in the game... most likely STERN used this.
The only issue is that is is the wrong era tie fighter. That is the one from the new trilogy. You can get ones for the original trilogy. They are great little collectables though.

We covered this already in post #3826.

Yeah I got that after reading on. Still trying to catch up. The amount of posts in such a short timeframe is insane.
Quoted from HoakyPoaky:With so many SW toys & merchandise saturating the collectors market for the last 40 years, I don't think there's any doubt that the SW pin will be the most modded game ever, and that's not necessarily a good thing either. While there will be some cool stuff for sure, there's going to be a lot of god awful toppers & crammed playfields that are going to be tough to look at.
People will fill their pins with these crappy accoutrements then put a premium price on it when they try to sell.
Stern used off the shelf hot wheels toys on a 15k dollar pinball machine, so can't really give owners to much shit if they want to do the same to their Star Wars .
I think there is space on the playfield for a nice x-wing model. No doubt Mezel mods will already be working on one. Beyond that I think you will have to play the game to see what other vechiles feature prominently before thinking about adding any aftermarket toys.
Quoted from Nevus:Topper!
Is that real? That's amazing if that was a real toy back in the day, maybe the force should have been "the marketing is strong with this one"
Quoted from J85M:Is that real? That's amazing if that was a real toy back in the day, maybe the force should have been "the marketing is strong with this one"
So true. George Lucas sure was a marketing genius. Back in 1977, the toys weren't ready in time, so they sold empty packages with the promise of a toy. People lined up to buy them.
Come to think if it, it is not too dissimilar to what Zidware, Skit B et. al. have done. At least Lucas followed through and EVERY customer came away smiling.
No deadflip video this week. Several more days of discussing nothing. It's like the Pinball version of Seinfeld.
Quoted from keys88:Is it just me, or does this playfield layout look a lot like Metallica with a LCD screen?
I think its just you, I certainly don't see it.
I was hoping to see a stream this week. Oh well, I guess the anticipation will just build a little more.

Those are playfield worthy! It should go well with the Alderaan rocks and toys from Episode I. (/joke, sad but someone will do this)
I'm going to develop a magnet kit for myself as a new project. I don't have Star Wars on order, but it's a source of inspiration given it's lack of Force magnets and I plan to make it so I can add it to any game. I'm thinking of something along the lines of Addams Family where the magnets are employed under the main playfield area and wreak some havoc for a few seconds based on an event (e.g. knock down all the FORCE targets) that triggers them being initialized. If anyone has done a similar project and would like to share some tips, please PM or post. I'm going to use an Arduino and MOSFET board to control the magnet coils. I'm going to try using the magnetic coils from TAF first. I don't really want to drill into my playfields, so I'm going to have to see if I can get enough oomph out of them without playfield modification. If that doesn't work, then I'll try experimenting with different coils.

I wonder how that will work out. In the end it's the combination of sound, callouts and integration into the rules and gameplay that make these kind of mechanical effects exciting. Without full integration into the software this might not be very overwhelming?

Knocking down all of the FORCE targets to get a magnet affect that could STDM doesn't sound like an award at all.
I don't know that magnets would improve a Ritchie design unless he designed with them in mind, to be honest. The game is going to be fast and heavily reliant on combos (which magnets would work against), much like Game of Thrones. This is one of those sorts of layouts that needs space to breathe. Sure, I would have loved a design that gave us a bit more meat on the bones, but I still think the game will be fun. I love Game of Thrones (the pro, anyway), and we're dealing with the same designer/programmer team here.
The wait to see more on this game has been pretty rough. Here's hoping it gets shown off better fairly soon.

But knocking down the F-O-R-C-E targets to power up your Force-button ball save that can pull back SDTM balls onto the playfield would have been awesome.
There are a million ways The Force could and should have been integrated with magnets but wasn't.
Quoted from keys88:Is it just me, or does this playfield layout look a lot like Metallica with a LCD screen?
I've been playing my AC/DC Pro and imagining the lightning bolt targets are TIE fighters on a spring. :-p
Fair enough statement to say that a magnet mod could suck. Nonetheless, I'm an electrical engineer that has been out of engineering for quite a few years and I'm ready to have a little magnetic fun whether it works out or not. I personally like the random chaos magnets introduce. The only magnet I ever disliked on a game I owned was World Cup Soccer -- mostly because I was too f**king slow to hit the damn button to engage magnasave before it was too late.

A levitating X Wing using static magnets would be cool. Like the Luke training session in the swamp on Dagobah with Yoda. No need to integrate it into the machine software or gameplay.

It is just you!
Since news on SW is slow, here is the patent from the days of Getaway on how the ball accelerator works. Enjoy.

I'm behind ya man. It needs magnets in some way. I hope you can pull it off rooting for ya.

Excellent now I can mod a hyperspace loop onto the pro! Now I Just need an electrical engineering degree and a metal shop...
Nope, they were assembling PROs for overseas shipment. Maybe this week/next week Stern will assemble domestic PROs.
Quoted from Ericpinballfan:Does anyone have a PRO yet???????
Ant
Anything delivered yet???
Do we know that any of the pro models on the line have been boxed and shipped out? Seemed that they were waiting on parts last week based on the FB video.
Magnets in pinball machines have always had poles which are in routed holes to be either flush with the playfield to catch the ball or very close to the playfield to effect the ball like in TAF. There is a reason for that. Surely designers have been tinkering with this ever since BK. You will not get it to work without routing without going to a monster magnet and custom power supply. In that case you better be experimenting on a worn playfield because you might be chipping paint topside!
I really don't think this game needs magnets, but your game... You should stick to stock style magnet parts and add some woodworking/routing skills to the Electrical Engineering skills.
Crazy how people could potentially get games in hand before even seeing ANY gameplay footage. For crying out loud, where's the footage? I'm not buying anything before seeing it first.
Quoted from konghusker:I'm not buying anything before seeing it first.
That's the beauty of it. You don't have to buy it ahead of it time. Usually a good practice.
They are shipping soon so you'll see plenty of video soon enough.
Nor should you. Wait and see. Personally I prefer to play it before I buy it. Sometimes you can't and that's when I pass.

I agree, but I'm in on an LE, smart or not, and distributors want commitments now. Hard to commit without seeing it. Pro buyers are in same boat if they are shipping now. How after 2 years they don't have something to show is beyond me. I'm still in, but I can't justify sending money for an LE until footage is revealed. Guess we'll see. I wouldn't buy a pro either without seeing it play first.

That's the LE gamble and Stern don't need to show footage to sell LEs, plenty of people like you that are "in" on an LE. Pro buyers are certainly not in the same boat no deposit needed or commitment for a pro or premium, btw I am not criticising I have done the LE faith gamble plenty of times, thankfully Stern didn't offer enough with SWLE so I've officially dropped my LE.

I agree with you totally. When I said pro guys are in same boat, it's not exactly the same of course. I was meaning that distributors will be calling their customers with pros in stock that some guys ordered. No footage, but your pro is in. Good luck. Yeah, they can hold off easily unlike Le buyers, but somebody has to jump in first without seeing it. I'm sure footage will be up soon, it's just frustrating to anxiously wait to see a game we've been waiting years already for. What's another week or two right? The whole announcement to me seems botched, but like you said, star wars will sell regardless and stern knows that.

Yeah that's the beauty of going for a Pro you can just sit and wait without missing out, with SW there are going to be a tonne of OPs who want this out on a route it should be a killer earner, simply because it's SW, so we should see plenty of footage as soon as the overseas OPs get their hands on games.
I am in agreement with you and totally j understand where your coming from, the biggest LE gamble I have ever done (in my own mind) was with my BM66LE, that one did have me a little nervous and doubting my decision/purchase, luckily it worked out great as I love the game and hopefully as Lyman progresses the code it will only get better.
I have spent the last 2 weeks going backwards and forwards between LE or Premium, finally deciding Premium it's almost a relief can sit back watch and wait. But I wish all LE buyers the best of luck as always it would be great to see good code on release and a killer game.

Same here. Back and forth. I prefer Le looks wise, but know it's probably not worth the difference. It's too much money to gamble with imo. I'm confident it will be good, but prefer to see it first. I thought the same with going premium. Would be nice to sit back with no time frame to decide.

Doubt it is botched at all. They just had to get their 2 cents in and maybe sway a couple of sales in while all the news was happening at JJP and CGC.

True. I can see that. It's going to be extremely successful regardless. It just doesn't seem to be good business practice towards customers is all.
A friend of mine in NYC does costume design for Marvel movies, and she told me yesterday that some guy she works with collects pins and was saying a gameplay vid was coming out on SW next week, but I haven't been able to confirm it 100% anywhere yet. She did mention the bs cheesy video that Stern put out, so at least I know she might not be totally bullshitting.
