I agree with Levi for the most part. The Hobbit is an awesome looking game, well built and with descent artwork, great toys and a marvel of technology, it really set a great standard and kudos to JJP for that. However, lets be real the game is a complete write off on gameplay, total snooze fest, a real lost opportunity. Keith couldn't save that game even with the greatest ruleset in the world. JJP really needs help in the playfield design department to increase their gameplay this is really what is holding them back in coming a viable competitor in the industry right now. Dialed In is a little better but still got a ways to go as far as I am concerned, making a fun playing machine isn't easy. For all of the cost cutting, no frills, in some people minds the suspect build quality that Stern gives us, they still have the cheapest machines and the most fun machines to play, hands down.

Quoted from John_I:

Put a couple of 40 pound weights into the new Sterns if you want them to feel sturdy. All of those extra miles of unneeded wire, the 40 pound transformer and other obsolete components don't make JJP games play any better.

Yeah, when I saw the bottom of the Hobbit Playfield I was shoked. I mean... you obviously get a lot for your money but I really like how tidy the new spike games are.

#2803 6 years ago
Quoted from CrazyLevi:

Tell me the other steve ritchie games with playfield magnets that randomly throw the ball around the playfield ala the power or ghostbusters.

Slugfest. Now where is my prize.

Come to think of it, that is not really pinball. And it more curves the ball than throws it around. Oh and it was Mark. Never mind.

#2804 6 years ago
Quoted from DS_Nadine:

Not entirely. I would have thought that his "Yagov Kicker" (that one that fires the Ball back at you; also seen in GOT, ST and more) would maybe be done with a magnet... Sadly it's missing entirely.

Go ahead and nail the horseshoe on Star Wars from left to right and tell me the ball doesn't fly toward the flipper as fast as it does on the yagov kicker.

Man I wish people could just actually play this game already.

Just wait unit the stern accessories are revealed. Haha.

"Real Talk." Is there an ability to stack Han with Leia or R2 with Luke? Thanks for any info Levi.IMG_1553 (resized).JPGIMG_1553 (resized).JPG

I have no doubt it'll be ridiculously fast, I allready ordered mine.

I just "only" have an F-14 and love the idea of the machine "fighting back". It just happened about 1/2 a year ago that I went in a private home that was full of Steve Richie games only, found out he still uses that concept and fell in love with Star Trek (followed up by GOT). But since it was allready known that he is doing Star Wars I didn't buy ST and kept waiting.

#2808 6 years ago
Quoted from CrazyLevi:

Why not?
Because you are completely missing the point. Compare hobbit to a lamp or something. If you want the hobbit, buy the hobbit. Stop complaining that every new stern game ISNT the hobbit. Serious pinball players know where to go for serious pinball and it isn't the hobbit, no matter how dressed up with novelties it is.

The real question is.. is SW as good as AFM?

Very well said. Weight doesn't make something better...it just makes it heavier.

Levi, any custom callouts?

So far I can't say honestly. I don't think so far.

Gary told me there will be.

X 1000

Hilarious and so true.

I don't think phones or computers are trying to get heavier, just the F ing opposite

Whatever makes em feel better!

I'm not rooting for one company or the other, but the Stern cabinet could not handle another 40lbs. They are already coming apart in their current state.

Hobbit shoots fine to me, it just needs the rules improved to tie in all those modes and make a complete game.

Not every game has to have all the stuff that gets in the way of the ball removed.

I ordered a Premium yesterday. I'm sure Stern will have a Pro at California Extreme next month, so that'll likely be my first opportunity to play it. I wasn't really all that amped up for CAX this year... until I typed that previous sentence.

You bash Stern pins on every thread so I doubt that.

Mine are solid and "aren't coming apart". It's a BS statement.

My ASLE PF is as good as it gets, along with every other Stern cab I have.

JJP can't even ship a pin within 2 years.

All of my Stern cabinets are intact as well, but many have had issues.

It is hardly a BS statement.

Somebody mentioned Ritchie and magnets....
Black Knight magna-saves should be Star Wars Force-Saves.

Looking fwd to playing star wars in October tho.

Whatever.

If this plays even remotely as good, fast and flowy as the layout looks I'm in for a Premium.

Believe what u want BigD

Just another Jack lie

We will announce games and ship them like Stern

If u like it great.

I'm tired of hearing the "far greater quality" BS argument

Stern will absolutely BLOW DI out of the water sales wise and they will crank out 3 or 4 more pins before JJP knows what hit them

..... but my counter would be why not give the SW license to someone with the sensibilities to make use of the core elements of said license for best immersion into the theme?

SW is a big moneyshot for Stern.

They are not going to risk having a Mustang or a Wrestlemania on their hands.

They gave it to their best designer.

It's going to flow, it's going to be fun, it's going to be classic Ritchie.

? They said they wld ship second quarter and well they are ? Jjp is not stern and im thankful for that and they both have their place in this crazy pin market .

Just confirmed with my distributor the prices are indeed $5400 Pro and $7400 Prem. That's a $200 and $400 bump over Aerosmith, which had a bump in price itself.

I'm not too keen on paying what was just LE money 1-2 years ago for a Premium. Probably going to sit this one out.

Hopefully this isn't the new standard pricing for all future Sterns.

They are definately increasing the pace between releases and Dialed In seems to be there best game yet so I'm really intrigued to see where they're heading in the future!

Of course not...the next release will be higher.

With the exception of the extra stupidity that was the pricing of Batman 66, has Stern ever lowered prices from one game to the next? Serious question, I don't think so, but I don't actually know.

#2836 6 years ago

The whole Hobbit comparison to EVERY new game is ridiculously stupid. Hobbit is it's own game. Leave it be. I get some people don't like the layout. Oh well. Tons do. Some people hate GB. Tons don't. Get over it. I can say from an unbiased opinion, as an OWNER of both jjp hobbit and woz pins, and 2 newer sterns in acdc premium, and Metallica pro, that side by side, jjp blows the other 2 out in all aspects except fun factor. Fun factor is completely subjective, and I truly have as much fun on all the same. I like the fast pace Stern's, but I also like a quest style jjp game. I love both companies, and so I can fairly say jjp has a superior product. Yeah, jjp takes longer to develop, and they do one game a year. I never hear the same level of whining about quality control, or incomplete code though compared to the 4 Stern's put out every year. Again, I'm in on a stern SW LE, but I can honestly say I believe most people would have loved to see jjps take on SW. I know I would have. Now, I'm going to go immerse myself into the variety of pinball each machine offers.

Right now its more like every 3 years but thats ok, "build quality"

#2838 6 years ago

Sooo... Dear Mr. Flip,

how soonish will you be able to tell us how soon™ your twitch stream will be?

#2839 6 years ago
Quoted from alveolus:

Good point Levi, but my counter would be why not give the SW license to someone with the sensibilities to make use of the core elements of said license for best immersion into the theme? Let Ritchie continue to make awesome games out of "generic" themes like AC/DC and Getaway and leave the magical licenses to the likes of Trudeau, Gomez, etc.

I was with you on Trudeau, but Gomez did Batman'66. Little magic there. Lyman is the only hope to save it, and even he may not be able to.

Quoted from Hazoff:

Where did you get your math diploma? DI announcement was what, around October/November. Jack promised 2nd quarter shipping. Jack made good. So now you're criticising a New start up company's volume compared to a company that's been full steam for 30 years. With your math major, can you calculate the time differential on how long it took jjp vs stern to get the playfield quality right? Woz had 1st run issues sure, but quickly fixed it. Stern again, 30 years and still having more issues than I have time to list. Again, can't be mad at me either, because I love both companies, support both companies, but facts are facts. Jjp games are a better build, more fully packed, and have excellent code. Stern has hit on some great games lately, but they've also struck out on a bunch to. Anyway, back to SW.

It sounds like a broken record but Stern f..up this Star Wars thing all about greed. They already said f.. Pinsiders !

At least Ghostbusters was decked out, Acdc got some cool s..t.
Even IO moon in the other thread has some cool popbumper caps forgodsake !!

Couple little toys on the playfield
Yoopdie f...G doei!!

I was excited man but now nothing but disappointment
Who cares about "the flow"

We all work hard for our money (some at least ) and this is what $8500 gets you ???

Sorry, had to get that if my chest
Let me now get back to my Data East Fully toyed, cool pinball Star Wars( with super duper hyper ramp) which is not blocking the freaking flippers view.

May the force be with y'all
