The main driving factor for some people getting a PRO is cost. Some would rather get 2 PRO models (almost) than 1 LE.
Quoted from DEN:From pics, i really dont understand why any home user wants to buy a pro model, i mean just look at the playfield, who cares about cabinet artwork? it will probepley stand next to another pin and you will never see sides of the pin. Pf is most important, pro model looks so empty. i am not talking about money here, just the fact that anybody thinks about buying a pro.
Premium is the way to go here, best bang for buck ever!
I orderd LE before knowing anything about this pin, but if i dident, and couldent get an LE i would bee happy with a Premium model.
Offcourse waiting for propper video of gameplay, but as it is now, with only pics, the pro looks like waste of money!

But the $3000 dollar different I could make my own wire trail to roll the balls on, buy a falcon with LED light and more
And save probably $2000
Quoted from DEN:best bang for buck
With these prices I think stern is doing the banging... no lube even
Well, that's a bit of a stretch, you won't, but point taken. I'd be satisfied with a PRO, but I guess most wouldn't.

Pretty sure most the machines that get made/sold will be Pros. Most collectors might want other versions, but not most buyers.
Quoted from Damonator:For all of you that keep saying, "it's less than I expected but at least it's Star Wars and will play well", I give you this:
And BTW, the fact that this post/pic got more upvotes than my Walter White pic is really...making me...question Pinside (and who really misses Breaking Bad as much as I do).

That's what it took for you to question Pinside?
Quoted from PanzerFreak:Stern could have at least put a molded bezel around it resembling something from the Star Wars films rather then a plain old black bezel...
Like this?
(that's how it's done)

Hell yess, look at the pro pf, its doll and empty, for me it looks like waste of money
LOL...well, yeah - The Prem/LE is Steve's true vision. His Pros are always stripped bare...but some people are happy with that as long as it's fast and has good rules. Pro's got the LCD and a bouncy ship...if the LCD has content that impresses people, I think it'll end up with a good reputation.
Quoted from Bendit:Like this?
(that's how it's done)
Stern did sell the (Mezel) firehouse bezel for Ghostbusters. I wouldn't put it past them to offer an LCD bezel as a mod.
Quoted from Bendit:Like this?
(that's how it's done)
I still say modders need to make a blast door surround, or maybe the targeting computer bezel... I'm sure someone will take care of this issue...
Quoted from jrockne:I'm sure someone will take care of this issue
Maybe so. But JJP shipped The Hobbit with the bezel, as a complete "art" package.
Shouldn't we expect the same from Stern?
Quoted from chuckwurt:Cannot wait to see the stream Jack! The gameplay seems like it's going to be great. I predict lots and lots of strategy just like GOT.
how much strategy is it that everyone always picks martell and takes the same 4 houses into hand of the king?

Those people are doing it wrong. Haha. I can argue many ways to blow up that game. Pretty hard to explain them all, so most latch onto one and go with it. Pretty standard.

TILT!

meh, all but 2 people at the worlds in Denmark last week played it that way
Anyways, hopefully the code in Star Wars is balanced and doesnt lend to 1 strategy that is the only way most people play it.
Quoted from InfiniteLives:meh, all but 2 people at the worlds in Denmark last week played it that way
Just because the majority of competitors prefer the same path (and much easier to understand that path when everyone does it), doesn't mean it's the only way to tackle a game.
Now if you called me out for saying that DESW on original code has lots of different strategies, then you'd be onto something.
Quoted from Bendit:Maybe so. But JJP shipped The Hobbit with the bezel, as a complete "art" package.

On Hobbit,it's supposed to be a book. On SW, it looks like its purpose will be ships to "shoot" by hitting the targets. Perhaps it was by design to have a plain black bezel....so when you're playing in a dark room, you don't really notice it - and it kinda looks like ships are floating there in space.
Quoted from Astropin:That's what it took for you to question Pinside?
I just spit my scotch, I mean coffee, all over my desk...
Quoted from Rarehero:and it kinda looks like ships are floating there in space.
I hear you. Surely there's a better way to "hide" a LCD screen in a game then? Why the thick black bezel then? You'd think the smaller the better in this case?
I don't know. I kind of feel like you should have let The Hobbit superiority vibe hang over the thread a little before posting that it could have been "by design".
Quoted from InfiniteLives:how much strategy is it that everyone always picks martell and takes the same 4 houses into hand of the king?
Those people don't know what they're doing. Go with Greyjoy, then capture Martell first. All the benefits of Martell, but then you also get all the other houses powers too, as you progress. Greyjoy's harder, but you can have monster games with it.

Hobbit superiority vibe that's a great one. Yes, proof that 29 modes + packed with stuff does not always equal fun.

Protection? Thicker = protection from airballs? *shrug*
Quoted from kermit24:Yes 29 modes and still seartching for the fun.
I see you've sold your GB. Guess the search for fun ended, eh?
Ben & I - still having fun with Hobbit...no search necessary.
Quoted from Rarehero:I see you've sold your GB. Guess the search for fun ended, eh?

Hey buddy! Fun on GB is still there. I don't have unlimited funds, so it's Star Wars instead. Too many kids. I probably like Hobbit as much as you like GB...
The Hobbit is objectively worse than GB. Let's just accept that and move on. Star Wars will be better than The Hobbit too.
Quoted from jar155:The Hobbit is objectively worse than GB. Let's just accept that and move on. Star Wars will be better than The Hobbit too.
Quote the opposite BY A LONG SHOT.
Linear mode progression in GB SUCKS - worst idea ever. If I want linear mode progression, I'll play a video game.
If Ghostbusters had Hobbit's build quality and mode style, or if Hobbit had had Ghostbusters's engaging, oddball layout, I would like either way more.
Quoted from Damonator:Quote the opposite BY A LONG SHOT.

Someone start a Hobbit vs Ghostbusters thread and get that crap out of here. Time to get back to Star Wars!!
Quoted from kermit24:Someone start a Hobbit vs Ghostbusters thread and get that crap out of here. Time to get back to Star Wars!!
In all fairness, I love everything about Ghostbusters except the linear mode progression - but I detest that so much it kept me from owning the game. Someday I *hope* they add an option that allows for randomizing the modes.
OK - I'm back to Star Wars...but I'm not sure what else we have to talk about until we see some gameplay footage.
Quoted from Damonator:OK - I'm back to Star Wars...but I'm not sure what else we have to talk about until we see some gameplay footage
How about what we think gameplay will be like? I think the possibilities are exciting especially considering all the uses the action button has (selecting, shot multipliers, mashing during modes, etc).
Also the character selection and abilities for each seem awesome and should make for great staying power in the home.
Quoted from DEN:From pics, i really dont understand why any home user wants to buy a pro model, i mean just look at the playfield, who cares about cabinet artwork? it will probepley stand next to another pin and you will never see sides of the pin. It seems most people buy current Sterns because they are fun and a theme they like, not because they are a good value due to all the stuff their loaded with.
Usually it's the speed and flow that makes a Ritchie game so much fun. The pro may be better in this regard like on GOT, we'll have to see.
Quoted from konghusker:I'm in on a SW LE, but I'll back up anybody that says ALL the jjp games are far superior quality and detailed compared to any stern. AS is the closest stern has come. That said, I'm pretty pumped for my SW. FYI, I also like GB.
It's the "far" superior quality statement that gets a lot of people.
Fact is that they NOT far superior. PFs? Nope
LCD? Not anymore
Sound? Nope
Can weigh more? Yep
Does is matter the minor differences? Obviously not in sales
Sometimes I wonder if anybody actually plays pinball or do they stand around and look at their direct print Woz cabs and say, "OMG look at that baby, I'd like to just crawl all over that thing"
I have some kick ass pins that I love to play. It doesn't matter who makes them to me
Quoted from jar155:The Hobbit is objectively worse than GB.
That is impossible considering GB is the worst game ever made in the history of all games, even resonating beyond the pinball universe, throughout infinity.
As for "good value", do you define that as paying $8500 for a Hobbit plus shipping and then selling it mint on the secondary market for $7000-7500?
Not me

I'm one of those people who never cared about code, but I bought TWD (delivered a couple hours ago) based on what people talk about in relation to the great code.
And now I see SW as one that will be really fun to play based on the code and how it's used in relation to the LCD(s), SW assets, action button, etc. (no matter how 'barren' the playfield is...which I'm ok with).
The beautiful thing is I have plenty of time to get and play a Pro and then upgrade to a Premium if the mood strikes me.
Can we drop the other pins we don't like?
That has been beaten to death, and who cares what you like or dislike do you think your going to change someone's mind? On to SW's please. I'm getting AS then probably the SW pro, I'm kind of frugal, and like the pro's I own. I really can't justify spending 7k and I really like the art on the pro anyway.
