Quoted from PanzerFreak:

A few more songs could have gone a long way to making this game even better. Rag Doll and Train Kept Rollin would have been good upbeat songs for general modes and then Dream On for a super wizard mode.
It would be nice to see more songs added to the game but I doubt it will happen. It did for Metallica but the band itself seemed very into the game and even provided custom callouts. Maybe Stern got a break on licensing for the extra Metallica songs since the band was so involved. The same cannot be said for ACDC, KISS and Aerosmith.

How long after the Metallica release did they add additional music via a code update?

Aerosmith seems to license a lot of items so I wouldn't rule it out just yet.

The lack of different music for either wizard modes or just the final wizard mode seems odd. I'm hoping Stern can get this done.

Did you order your AS yet?

#3003 6 years ago
Quoted from huo:

No. Jacky is cool though, really works with the game.

That's kind of lame. Sometimes Stern really drop the ball in regards to licensing. AC/DC, no band members call outs, TWD no actors anywhere, AS, no band members. I know it's all $$ and it often comes down to whether the licensors are into pinball, but surely it couldn't be that difficult to get a couple of call outs from band members.

I played AS Premium a lot at the show and I didn't make a single right ramp shot where it actually was successful. I didn't see anyone else make it either. That sucker is steep. I've looked for videos of it but haven't seen it either.
I think it's possible, but difficult unless you cradle first?

That's weird. Not sure how it was set up but I don't have any problem making that ramp. No need to cradle before

It's a bit of a dangerous shot, you miss it and you can get a sdtm drain

Yeah it was up the ramp, then back down. Each time.

I was impressed with the game but kind of cautious that it's a one trick pony with toy box multiball.

Also that lock shot is crap. It's all about bouncing in off the bumpers. Also the toy box lock only worked about 1/2 the time.

It ain't no one trick pony. The ball locks don't work for a lot of reasons... all by design. The lock shot is a very satisfying shot imo.

Quoted from huo:

In case youre not aware. There is a bass and treble section in settings. I turned up the bass and put Speech Attentum to -15. Now the games loud, has more bass and you can hear the callouts.

I don't mind looking like a dummy. Where in the hell do you find the setting to adjust bass and treble? I've gone through all the menu's and can't seem to find this setting. Music and speech attenuation, yes. But haven't seen anything to adjust the bass and treble. Thanks in advance.

I can make the ramp perfectly fine on my machine, but it does take a good shot. Otherwise it just comes down again HARD. And most of the time it does come back it is dangerously close to draining.

The ramp is just steep and anything but a perfect shot does not make it. If it hits the sides of the ramp it just loses too much momentum to get to the top. Look at it like an orbit shot that has to go through popbumpers. Slightly off and it will hit the bumper and not make the orbit, but when it does...

No one trick pony at all, just great fun. Toy box needs some adjusting iun the settings. I put my power on 194 and it never missed after that.

That's what I saw too with the ramp. I guess I was looking for that MET combo smoothness, and if that's the case then the Pro is more similar.

Try checking the Utilities tab in the service menu.

Quoted from Eskaybee:

So what song(s) play during the wizard mode? I made medley once but background was so loud and game so quiet I couldn't tell.

Only made it to Medley so far...and didn't finish it...but it is similar to Super Hero on SM. It starts with SOSAD (IIRC) and you have to hit all the shots in that mode, then it goes on to the next song and you have to hit all those shots...Only made it to TITA and drained before hitting the toy box 6 times...As you go through the songs it plays whatever song you are trying to complete at the time.

Part of the problem may be just if you were at a show and that game was used constantly for the last 8 hours. I'm sure the flippers will be warm and weaker.

I can hit the right ramp quite successfully at my house, but I do get some kick backs which I'll mess with fixing later on.

Need to hit the shot smooth into the lane for a clean lock. It is actually a pretty tight satisfying shot. I would rather not hit the ball in the pops to go for a lock and have the magnet whip the ball SDTM for a drain, but yes I do get locks that way.

Toy box lock power to the kicker can be adjusted for a better shot to the toy box. It seems that can be a complaint from the show and location players, but easily fixed to get 90%+ going in. Some folks think when the ball hits Jacky in the head the toy box is not working either. Not true.

No I can make the shot my issue is I hit it with such force that at the top the ball pops up and hits the edge of the acrylic piece and then gets denied and falls back down the ramp!! I think if the two pieces were one or it could guide the ball better it would continue like an orbit shot then!!

The BIG difference is that MET does not have dedicated dots or inserts for the songs like AS does.

Important point. Possibly some new song integration with a mini wizard mode or another mb. I still prefer like acdc the songs linked to a mode not just olaying the background for the sake of it.

Yeah that is why pinball browser really can't be used to change anything or you will be mismatched.

I do think something could be added to the main final wizard mode and you would never know unless you reached it. Makes it a little more rewarding in a way other than just a score, more interaction in my opinion.

What are the uses of the button on the lockdown bar button beyond delaying multiball?

Also, I heard something about collecting coins or something in the Buffalo Pinballs video review. Sounds like the idea may not be fully implemented yet.

Hoping both features will be expanded upon with any upcoming code updates.

#3020 6 years ago

The button also shoots the ball in case you're lazy.
Also when choosing a song it locks in that song.

#3021 6 years ago

I finally got to play one at a beach arcade that just opened for the season.. killer game.. fast fun.. cool shots.great art.. I dig it..

There are "Smart Bombs" that you can use to get any major lit shot - but they are only handed out as mystery awards currently, and not very often. They definitely should make someway to acquire the Smart Bombs. Possibly making the "Lock" skill shot would be a good way to award "Smart Bombs".

Maybe the second collection of Aerosmith on a ball should light 2X shots and give you a Smart Bomb.

Yeah. Hopefully a code update expands on the buttons use a bit. I thinking that at least a couple more updates are coming.

#3026 6 years ago

Even though the flyer clearly states there's a skill shot. I'm convinced it's not there yet. Thought it was a launch into the back of the lock. But when you hit it no "skill shot" animation or appropate scoring. Would be also nice if a soft launched pre auto launch also gave you a skill reward there too.

I got skill shot awards making it into the back door to the lock on launch on a premium - the pin brought to shows from Tilt. There was a animation for it. I did not have a lock prequalified each of those times.

That is encouraging. Hopefully a test code. It is certainly not in the latest Pro code release.

See KISS and GB. I know it's wishful thinking to hope more code comes, but I wouldn't be surprised if AS is already considered done by Stern. Aside from BM66 which obviously isn't close to done, Stern seems to be spending less time on post release code than they were 3 or 4 years ago.

I'd like to get Aerosmith, but I just don't see Lonnie finishing the game (see Star Trek & KISS).

Quoted from Trekkie1978:

I'd like to get Aerosmith, but I just don't see Lonnie finishing the game (see Star Trek & KISS).

To be fair, ST has more code then just about any game ever. You may not like the code but it has a ton of it. Yes, Dwight came in and made it better but the basic bones were already there. KISS also has plenty of code, once again it may not be to people's liking though. The issue with KISS is the cities which just need some type of bonus added to them or to just have them removed. People are mainly pissed because Jody said an update was coming that obviously is not. It's a good enough game though and has plenty to do. The average player will never see the final wizard mode. Both games have a few bugs that could be polished but that can be said about most games.

You are smart to wait though if code is your main priority. I doubt AS will see a lot more love other then 1 or 2 more small polishes then on to the next game. I just don't see those big game changing updates coming from stern anymore. What you see is what you get. If it sells well they might make it a little better. If it doesn't sell well then you had better be happy with you purchase as is.

AS does have what may be sterns best overall toy to date though. It also has a pretty unique upper playfield that is not like anything I have played before. It also has as much or more code as most B/W games ever had. So in the end, it's either good enough for a purchase or it's not. Overall it stacks up pretty well in my mind though. Good hand drawn art, LCD, cool main toy, upper playfield that doesn't really disrupt the game, cool light show, solid code backbone.

Quoted from Trekkie1978:

A big reason why I decided to buy an AS over some other Stern titles is that the code is fairly complete. AS feels like one of Sterns most code complete games out of the box. With that being said I hope a few more things are added.

For what it's worth Stern told me via Facebook when I inquired about future AS code updates that they imagine more code updates for the game are coming.

#3034 6 years ago

And if you can't love the LCD on AS then I would classify you as a "no hoper"

Although they pretty much always say that! Let's hope though.

Maybe with the LCD thing, they need to have more complete code right out of the box.

Did you get a pro or a premium?

#3040 6 years ago

Likely a bug. But I have bass set high and voice/callout attentum set to -15, this helps hear all the callouts. But getting Elevator multiball the girl and the laugh are not loud at all. Everything else seems right.

Might be a silly question, but I can't get it to save a custom message on my LE. I've tried a dozen times and it never saves. It's not game play but has anyone else run into this?

I had no problem saving a custom message on my LE. However, when I tried to lower the scores needed to get on the leader board, those lower scores wouldn't take. Same with trying to lower the number of combos needed. Strange...

If you lower the scores, make sure you reset the high scores after you've lowered them and then it worked for me.

The issue is that people expected the cities to do something gameplay wise ... and they don't. All they do is change the callouts to "personalise" the game for the player.

Gomez confirmed at TPF this is what the cities were always meant to do. Nothing more, nothing less.

If Stern had announced that FROM DAY ONE, instead of saying "stay tuned" every 5 minutes, then you wouldn't have people freaking out. They dug their own hole, to a large extent, by lack of communication.

Just hit 188M. Elevator multiball dumps the toybox. Kind of ruins a 5 ball lock going for 6.

Please don't tell me that you believe Gomez on that. They obviously were meant for more. Simple fact is KISS is not selling so stern is done with the code.

I said that was what the cities were for on day one. You can hear the callouts change. "hello Deeeeetroit!!"

Some people assumed that the cities were something else.

I couldn't see how you could make the cities something else. There are like 8 songs (?) and 6 cities (?). If every song mode was changed by the city, that would be 48 different modes to complete the game. Seeing how most players can't even complete two songs on factory settings, having 48 modes to work through didn't make any sense. Plus, you'd have to have coding for 48 scenarios. Seeing as they can't finish the code for 8 scenarios, why would they set themselves up to code 48?

Gomez was VERY animated in the discussion of cities at his TPF chat. He went out of his way to say that the cities were only ever meant to change the callouts, and "the internet" had decided they were supposed to be something else. There's probably footage of it on YouTube, check it out.

So yes, I totally believe him for the reasons stated above.

It doesn't ruin your lock, if you land a ball in the kicker hole without the lock being lit, it will reload them. If you do light the lock and land the sixth ball in and start multiball then the game will shoot balls out until you have the six ball multiball going.

I think it's a cool little feature so you can actually get a four, five or six ball multiball going from the elevator if you time it right and still get the big toy box multiball.

Another neat thing we saw playing multiple people is if I'm going for the six ball lock and my wife is second player she can get extra balls going when she hits the 3 ball lock. For her locks it won't kick balls up, but if she doesn't postpone the multiball she gets to play the extra balls that I had stored up. She LOVES this...

They should've designed the cities in a way that you have to get to Detroit. Or even make it a random ending city, where you're trying to get to their concert.
