I like the tournament button to put my volume switch in there

Anyone know of an Aerosmith on location on the Chicagoland area that I can play?

Did anyone else notice the clear coat on the game, it looks about twice as thick as GB, I was really surprised by that and noticed it instantly.. A few pics but don't know if it shows or not...

yes i noticed the thick clear as well and the wood looks different , very smooth with not much grain in the shooter lane . inserts all look very good as well . game plays very smooth with nice flow . looks super cool .

There should be more hype for this game because it's pretty fantastic.

I think the lack of hype is from a lot of folks tired of Stern's shit.

Cant recall a time where so many Pinsiders were like "omg game looks awesome" followed by "but I'm done with Stern until (insert issue) is resolved/completed"

Yep. This is me for sure. Burned by BM66. Not again. Like Stern a lot but not biting on new releases anymore. I've rushed to location to play new releases here in Dallas. We got an AS a couple weeks ago and have zero desire to go play it. Perhaps I'm missing out but this is what happens. Interest has turned else where

#2006 3 years ago

I think the apathy towards the game is partly people sick of Stern, partly people at saturation, and partly that with Aerosmith there really is nothing new. Apart from the colour screen, this game is a mashup of Kiss & Metallica. So if you own, or already have owned either of those, there's no motivation to buy AS.

Because of people's antipathy to Stern plus the fact they're already happy with their collection (size and quality), the game has to really prove itself enough for collectors make room. Is the theme a must have? With AS, no. Is the game unique? With AS, no. Is the game likely to have groundbreaking code? With AS, unlikely (I think it's pretty much done). Is there fear of missing out? With AS, no (catch 22 situation).

Not to say the game isn't solid - it is, but it's just another solid game amongst plenty of other recent Stern releases, and probably not as good as most of them. It will do well on location, and I'd definitely play it in a pub, but there's not enough there to make me sell Metallica, TWD, GB, ST, AC/DC or [insert game here].

From now on to get a place in my line -up the game must have either/or/both a killer theme or killer gameplay.

All of that PLUS it has the unfortunate placement of being the pin before Star Wars, and I'm sure plenty of people are waiting to see if the 4th (6th if you count international) time's the charm with the Star Wars pinball license.

That's why I'd buy an Heighway Aliens table.

And in Texas soon there are another 4 games announced!

Houdini
AFMR
Elvira 3
New Spooky game

Competition is fierce.

Code is an area where Stern have excelled in the past but if they fail to finish off games and don't try and make them over the top, they are slowly going to lose sales.

I thought Elvira 3 was the next KAPOW/Stern game. Pretty ballsy to show that when their first title is, well, neglected.

Elvira 3 is a "3rd party" boutique game for Stern, but it's WhizBang Pinball (Dennis Nordman and Greg Freres - Woah Nellie), not Kapow.

We will see how true this is once Star Wars drops. Something tells me we will be revisiting the madness especially in the LE department.

I get your point though, Stern has certainly made missteps and people probably should be a little apprehensive going forward.

Logan Arcade in the City. Western and Fullerton

Thanks, took a trip over there today while in town. Aerosmith is running 1.01 code there (is there anything newer?)

Got about a dozen games in on Aerosmith; very impressed. Great art, and the LCD screen animations were very well done. Shots were satisfying and the "fling the ball into the box" trick was very cool. I found about every 1 out of 8 flings missed, but did not impact the game- it still kept track of the proper number of locked balls; they just ended up as virtual locks. (This is different from when lock is not lit and it flings it at the closed box for the "owwww my head!" callout)

I thought it was somewhat brutal on outlane drains; particularly on the right side. On a few occasions I had an immediate drain of the ball after plunging and then again on the subsequent ball save ball without ever hitting the flippers, even with aggressive nudging. If I owned this game I'd probably tighten up the outlane posts. I also thought it was tough to shoot the right orbit, but not impossible.

I think the callouts need improvement. Didn't seem to be much variety and "Jackys" voice was very grating.

I little polish on the callouts and code and I think they'll have a hit on their hands.

Man I am on the fence for my next NIB. I am still waiting to play AS but in the mean time I am really digging the looks and gameplay video of Alien(also want to get some gameplay). Then there is the likelihood of Stern announcing a superhero theme soon. Guardians of the Galaxy? Justice League? Plus I still want a NIB GOT Pro. Lots of possibilities. I really feel fortunate that pinball is in the main stream again and we have many choices to choose from. These are good times!

A lot of excitement around Alien but placing an order today doesn't equate to receiving a game next week. I may end up with an Alien but I won't order until Cointaker has stock. My Aerosmith Pro is supposed to be here this week and I'm paying this week. I agree, these are good times to be in the market for new games.

Definitely a lot of good choices right now. GOT Pro is sweet, TWD, MET, AS GB. That's 5 awesome games that you can buy right now. I'm very tempted on AS but I kinda want to wait and see what the next pin is also. You cant go wrong with GOT Pro though. A GB Premium is the best in their lineup right now imo.

I have to agree GB Premium and LE is the best game released in years. I am really enjoying mine, such a fun game!

I got to play Aerosmith over the weekend. The Pro is actually a cool game. It's a very open layout, but has nice shots and flow. I cannot stand the voice on the Jester or Jacky whatever he is called. The fling the ball trick is fun, but will be a nightmare with a weak coil or if out of adjustment. Let's see how much wear & tear the playfield takes right there too. Not a theme for me, but it would not keep me from playing it on location again.

I've thought about playfield wear also in that area maybe being a problem.

Lonnie on code = Playing this one on location.

I played a bunch of games yesterday at the Pinball Lounge in Orlando. This is the best first impression of any game I've played in years. It is a complete package and I kept wanting to play more. Not a huge fan of the band but I don't dislike them either. I definitely could see owning it some day. To me the LCD display and content are the best in any game I've ever seen. It's just the right size and the colors pop. No split screen crap and really nice cartoon animations. Aerosmith are some ugly old MFers, last thing I want to see is real HD video of them on stage. The game also sounded great. The 2.1 sound really makes it crisp and clear in the mid and highs with a nice low end from the stock pro speakers.

#2029 3 years ago

Got in a handful of games at 8-Bit in Renton yesterday.Clearly the code is immature and will hopefully improve. The pro is pretty open with some nice flow and shots. The launch the ball into the box trick is pretty cool but with the misses and the balls being released you definitely need mylar there.Overall should be a good one.

you're hard
i would say, in a small collection, 1 (recent) game coded by Lonnie is OK, but not more

#2031 3 years ago

even more strange when i could see in your collection : avengers, tron, transformers & iron man
all these 4 are more than similar talking about code, TRON may be a bit less after Lyman "tweaks"

Haven't updated that in a long time. Avengers and Transformers got the boot a long time ago and will never come back. Tron and IM, on the other hand, are epic. Also, Lyman tweaks of the past are less likely on newer machines given how many games need code right now, IMO.

#2033 3 years ago

This game looks badass. Even though I have Kiss, I'm very tempted with this one.

#2034 3 years ago

I just played it last night. It's okay. I don't think it will be a legend.

The toybox is kind of amusing and I agree with an above poster that a weak coil will ruin it. The callouts are terrible, the LCD animations are Scooby-Do awful (completely cringe-worthy) and remind me of low end Flash games. I wish the Sterns did more with their LEDs like JJP does. And I feel this way about all the rock and roll pinball machines -- Aerosmith is a fine band, but how many times can a person listen to that handful of songs? It's like being a poor teenager with one cassette tape!

As for play, I never felt like I was doing anything other than making ramp shots and hitting the elevator. It wasn't clunky but I didn't feel like I had a purpose.

And, given Stern's declining code polishing reputation, assume what's there now is about what it will be for the future. Not a home game, but probably okay on route (KISS does great on route, and this is a KISSing cousin to that).

The animations are so bad, so cheap..words escape me, rule wise I'm sure it has some shots but I found no joy in playing it off the bat, the art would have been rad if Donny didn't have to draw Aerosmith.. arf. To imagine we could have had a Beastie Boys machine and they give us this, not exactly sure what demographic Stern is designing their games for but my guess is it's one that takes their Viagra with a shot of Rogaine.

Worst and dumbest review of Aerosmith ever! As far as the Beastie boys go, I'm not saying they are a bad band but how many people out there do you think would buy a Beastie Boys pinball machine? Not nearly enough, thats how many. I dont like Aerosmith all that much either but I would still consider buying this game, because its a pretty damn good game. If I was an Aerosmith fan any at all, this game would already be in my collection.

Done right I'd be interested in Beastie Boys
Aerosmith (which I feel was done right) I'll probably never buy unless it's second hand and cheap.

about the "jump ball" & the coil, it's not really a prob

i had a NBA home, HUO machine and 2nd owner, my son & i we've putted lots of games on it, i never had a prob with "jump"
now OK with a game in a public place it could be another story, but only needed some attention by the owner to put a new coil if needed...

i think i will really enjoy AS, but again its clearly "Lonnie" too much classical code, will not do it if something similar is already home
just personal advice of course

Depending on how the theme was implemented, but yeah, I'd be into it too, most-likely. Unless Lonnie was on it. Then no...just no. He needs to start building some "polished to a shine" credibility first, IMO. Too many buggy carcasses.

Maybe this guy didn't play the same game all of us played because the animations in this game are just awesome and are the best yet for an LCD display in my mind because it reminds of an upgraded dmd display which is what they should be; not like other newer games where you are just watching a movie on the display. Animations are a 10 on this game

Anyone who thinks the art package on AS is "bad" or "cheap" has absolutely no idea what they're talking about. Donnie Gilles is a frickin' sick genius! AS is one of his best pieces of work. As for Beastie Boys, they had like one good record & done.

My Pro arrived in Tampa Bay Area yesterday and set up today. Still in the honeymoon faze but really impressed right out of the gate. Stunning to look at and a blast so far(albeit 20 games). Been no issues or tweaking needed yet. Shots feel real good and zero issues with the ball shooting into "attic". Bottom line so far...boy this is fun! And isn't fun what it's all about!

Had also a NBA here (and i regret a little that i have sold, fun simple game. By the way your video is awesome was only one time in the finals). Some jumping balls were rescued by the magnet at the basket. Otherwise they would have fallen down before reaching the basket. Has AS alo a magnet to pull the ball?

I know what you mean. I own a Transformers and whilst I really like the game it is fair to say that the code lacks finesse.
