    Quoted from duckkillerclyde:

White lithium grease or am I thinking like a gear head too much?

Yes you are, this is not a car. Do not use grease or wd-40.
White lithium grease gums up and gets hard over time.
If you search I'm sure you will find guys that have disassembled the yuckiest mechs and got them cleaned up and working again.
You'll probably find some guys leave it dry and others use a small thin coat of electrical grease.
Coils and sleeves stay dry without lube.
