I may need the Bug Warrior stepper motor (part #: 041-5062-00) that was used in Starship Troopers, Stern's Playboy and High Roller Casino. It's out of stock everywhere online and I have not been able to find one.

I'm having issues with the one I have in SST where the bug warrior's getting stuck and the threaded screw flopping around inside the motor. Looking for a possible replacement.

For reference, in Playboy, it's called "Drop Screen Stepper". In High Roller Casino it's just listed as "Stepper Motor" although with a different part number (041-5062-01).

The only information I can find is this:

Haydon Switch & Instrument, Inc. Stepper Motor
12v D.C. 4.6W (041-5062-00), Series 36000:
1.4"ø (Non-Captive Shaft not incl.) HSI #36864-12
(Unipolar) Travel per Step: .004 Step Angle: 15°

Anyone familiar with this motor?

Yeah I saw that, but don't want to put in that much because the mount, rails and all other hardware is decent enough and probably won't ever require a swap. :/

I tore apart the motor and there's nothing obviously wrong with it, visually. But I can't easily inspect the coils nor test them.

I'd think the most prone failure point would be the drive gear in the motor vice the windings.
You could power the motor out of the game, perhaps using the game itself as the power source.

I know this is an old post, but I would like to follow up an hopefully get some feedback.

When the game starts up it goes through the test and reports the stepper motor is having a problem 'coil malfunction".

The bug moves all the backwards, then all the way forwards, then the motor stays running in the forward position and doesn't stop for awhile.

When playing the game the bug starts forward... and only moves backwards a little when multiball starts, or superjackpot is available. It had moved all the way back to shoot the hole, but it doesn't do that anymore.

Since the motor is working, is anyone aware of a way to fix it so it operates properly, or is the solution to simply buy a new part?

Thanks!

Make sure the two switches are operating properly. They tell the board when the bug is all the way forward and all the way backwards. Without those, there are some weird behaviors.

The issue I ended up having was that the header connector on the main board has a bad solder joint. If I wiggle the cable (I forget which it is at the moment), the motor comes to life and works fine along with all the segments that were out on the playfield displays. A wiggle and the segments go out as well as the motor functioning properly.
