While my current project isn't finished yet, i am starting to work on the next machine.
This time with lots of inserts.
i am still trying to figure out the mechanism of how the balls should come into play. On this homebrew i want that there are at least two balls in play every time.
I do have some things which i imagine are difficult to do in the code, i am looking forward to solve those problems

Nice - are you planning on putting this playfield in an arcade style cabinet like your treehouse homebrew?

    3d printed with transparent PETG.

no this machine will be different

You're so productive. Do you sleep? j/k

Tried something out before sanding down the inserts. Don't know how this machine is called, i think it is just known as a multitool. It has this metalplate that vibrates and is designed to cut things off flat.
On 2 bigger inserts i went a little to deep, but on the small inserts, the metalplate just cut the taller plastics clean off.
i am so happy how well that worked.
Only will have to do light sanding.

Interesting technique. I’d be worried about gouging the wood but looks like you got along just fine. Definitely didn’t enjoy sanding inserts down for 8 hours straight.

    #11 2 years ago

The tool is awesome, it doesn't cut down. You lay it flat on the wood, and just the things that are higher up get cut. And for some reason, will not cut flesh. I don't remember i think i tested it and survived, but that's scary.

I hate sanding, but the biggest problem for me is, that when i sand to deep at one place i don't even notice until it's too late. So this time i am pretty confident that it will be ok.

    #12 2 years ago

but out in the sun i saw grooves all over the playfield. wasn't a real problem, but sure is not the perfect solution then.
i think i did save time in sanding though.

hm or maybe i created the grooves earlier.. my technique for cutting the playfield is glueing the template on, after cutting i have to remove the left over glue somehow.

hm i just realized, there are droptargets that hold the ramp up? what a cool idea.

    Could the theme be Asterix?

Love the multi tool — Nice use if it! For specific cuts, it’s the only thing that will work. Can’t believe how quickly you work either- always fun projects to follow.

thank you, yes that tool decreased a lot of sanding time for me, so that will go in as standard procedure for future pins

Spend a couple of hours on fitting the ramps. I don't have found any mayor issues with the placement. I think this can totally work as planed. Have to fix them in the right height still.

    IMG_20220514_181623.jpgIMG_20220514_181623.jpgIMG_20220514_181633.jpgIMG_20220514_181633.jpgIMG_20220514_181709.jpgIMG_20220514_181709.jpgIMG_20220514_181719.jpgIMG_20220514_181719.jpgIMG_20220514_181734.jpgIMG_20220514_181734.jpgIMG_20220514_181741.jpgIMG_20220514_181741.jpg

I like that the playfield aren’t mirror images of one another like most versus tables.

Do you feel like one side is “easier” than the other in a physical layout? Would the rules be particular different for each side?

It will be interesting to get player feedback later on to see which of the two sides people prefer and why, then try to balance them with rule differences so that there is no clearly “better” side.

    #27 1 year ago

I don't think one side is easier, but i that will be more clear, when the pin is flipping. I hope that they ramps are alle good to shoot. The rules will be the same for each side. I want the players to be working together.
for example, when the goal is to get the ingredients for the magic wine (or whatever it is called in english) every side has a target for that. Together they need to get a couple of shots, but it is not important how many each side shoots.

And when i am able to do that, i would love to make a program for each side, that you could play alone if you want to. But that will need some diverters i think. Will see.

    #28 1 year ago

Also there are shots that will shoot the ball to the other side. It will be a challenge, but ideally i want there to be a balance with the balls. I might drop in a ball on one side, when no switch is registered for a long time. And on drain a new ball should drop in to the side which is down a ball.

Nice, which games did the ramps you used come from?

the long one is from scared stiff, star trek the next generation and the wireramp and the red ones from xForce

Just discovered that you were making this one too! I have thought about a co-op game as well. Excited to see how you balance the sides.

Changed the ramps, but i think i will go with this setup.
this is a slow project, i only work on that pinball from now and then, but i want to put in some hours now

stefanmader Is this project still in the making?

    #37 1 year ago
    Quoted from WODKA:

stefanmader Is this project still in the making?

Yes, but i find little time to go forward. I usually have another project that gets my attention. Why is that? Well that is such a big machine, and i don't have a lot of space, so i push this one back all the time.
But Asterix and Obelix will be finished eventually.
Did some thinking about the cabinet and on how to get the balls into play, so i might get into that mechanism soon.

    1 month later
    #38 1 year ago

Made most of the guides on the playfield. Installed a rubberband behind the drop targets. Startet on the ball trough mechanism.
A custom 3d printed trough is screwed on in the middle where the playfields meet.
the ball will be ejected through a wireramp. And the i still have to make a short ramp with a diverter on top to eject to one specific side.

On the two drains i still have to make the path to the middle of the playfields and get the ball into the trough.

Is that a Special stand up target that raises up from the playfield? That's neat. Can't recall having seen a standup target like that.

It is from an xforce playfield. There is a doublewound coil that holds it up when energized. When not energized it falls down.

I cut the wood of the side panel, so that i can see what happens. Have to replace the sidepanels anyway because the ramps are to high up.

So the 3d printed part for the drains work well. Next thing is a complicated 3d part to join the two barrels and shoot the ball up to the trough in the middle.
