I just got my playfield back from Chris Hutchins, looks amazing...really looking forward to getting this plus some additional upgrades onto my Stargate...

looks AMAZING!!!!
If you want to sell your old pf once you do the swap, PLEASE let me know!

Not really sure you would want it...it is pretty roygh.

#908 6 years ago
Quoted from Whysnow:

I would likely take it (assuming the price is reasonable).
Almost anything can be restored
SG was my 3rd game and I have been looking for a restorable pf for years now. I bought one form overseas that was so badly burnt on the back side that it was not salvagable. It also had a wierd factory mylar that could not be removed without pealing all the art.

I was lucky enough to find a populated sample playfield...had some minor wear but nothing drastic. When I get the old one out I will send you some photos...probably sometime next year as I still have a couple machines in work.

#911 6 years ago
Quoted from clempo:

From a cradle, is your left flipper strong enough to make it to the top of the right ramp?
Mine only works if the ball is coming down the inlane. This makes it hard to spell STARGATE or get combos.

From a cradle? yes...all flippers can make all ramp shots easily.

#914 6 years ago
Quoted from clempo:

Can you give me your technique for cradle separation on a Stargate?
When I have two balls cradled on a flipper and only want to send one ball in play with precision, I often screw up and lose one of the balls.

I am no expert but when I am cradling 2 balls on one side and want to move a ball to the opposite flipper, I will try to lightly bounce the outer ball up and tip it with the flipper tip to the other flipper...there may be other techniques.

#917 6 years ago
Quoted from clempo:

That's the problem, when I try to lightly tap the flipper, it still goes all the way up and it launches the ball out of control.

Hmmm...not sure what to tell you, as I said, I am not an expert. How would I go about scanning the playfield? There were some touch ups made...

2 things: Does anyone make "mirror blades" for Stargate? Does anyone make playfield plastic protectors? Any info is appreciated.

Doing a playfied swap on my Stargate...and a bit more. I was able to source a decent uninstalled, mostly populated playfield...although it was a sample playfield. I sent it to Chris Hutchins and he touched it up and cleared it, looks outstanding...so far I am pretty happy with how it is going back together. The underside is done...interestingly the top is taking much longer to reassemble.

Such a fun game!

Thank you. I can't wait to flip the switch and bring it back to life. A buddy of mine is working on an updated LED rope light solution. This being a sample playfield it was missing a couple posts so I had to add them. Also there is a second set of 89 light sockets inder the pyramid...the production playfield has the holes painted but not drilled out. I am debating whether to activate them or not.

Could you just go ahead and sell me that Andromeda?

Ha ha...I appreciate your interest, I just finished a complete restoration of my Andromeda last month and plan on keeping it in my collection for quite some time. Complete cabinet repair and repaint. Playfield was repaired by Chris Hutchins just like on Stargate. I figured I would get some crap about the yellow powder coat but I am quite happy with the appearance.

Yes, both ramps, both up-kicker housings (normally just steel) and the Apron. I have the decals for the ramps but am waiting to see if I like it better without them. Color is a metallic black...I forgot the actual name.

Hi all, what’s the recommended paint to use to repaint the metal pyramid and are replacement ‘Stargate’ decals available for it? Mine could use a repaint and I’m thinking of using some quality spray paint and carefully misting it on to bring the original gold finish back.
Also, is there a source for the target decals? Mine are all torn up and I’m hoping a replacement set is available.
One of my Anubis ears is broken off, but I do see PBResource has replacements available on their website.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I had my pyramid plated gold/brass by Pinball Plating along with all of the wire-forms...Chris Royal. I suppose you can paint the pyramid as well. PBR has or had decal/sticker set for Stargate....which includes the "stargate" decal for the pyramid. I had a custom decal made down at the local flea-market.

Quoted from Magicmike0:

Hey guys. Anybody got a picture of the original spacers used to hold the rope light? I found a couple pics, but not sure if they are original. I know the one from pbr site should be actual images of the spacer, but I need one of them on the back glass mirror.
The pic I’m posting here with the arrows was the best I could find. Again don’t know if they are original in that pic, but I think they are. I was wondering how they work? Are they supposed to sit on top of the mirror, or do they actually go inside the holes on the mirror? I would think they go in the hole a little ways, but could be wrong. The reason I’m asking is I made my own according to the specs on PBR website, but they aren’t small enough to fit in the holes. Maybe my measurements are off a tad, or maybe they are supposed to sit on the mirror and the hole is just for the wire tie to go through? The other pics are just to show what the previous owner used(small square adhesive wire mounts) I pulled one of the mounts off and put a spacer I made up to the hole. It will rest on the mirror(see last pic) with the rope light sitting on top of it. Maybe if I put a tie through it, it will hold it in place.
Long story short anybody got a picture of the way the spacers are actually supposed to work?

Thanks for the help. Mine doesn’t have two black/orange wires just one. Any chance you can take one with the direction of the diode on the coil for the center coil. I have one orange/black on one terminal and one red/orange on the other terminal. I’m having the fuse burn out in test mode and the mosfet keeps burning out also on the driver board. I bought the game like this so not sure how far this problem goes.

Does this help? Or am I missing the mark?

Quoted from Turboghia:

So I got ‘er fixed...with a lot of photos provided by the member FtrMech which I greatly appreciate and couldn’t have fixed it without his help. I hope the solution helps others fix Gottlieb system 3 pins. So center kicker kept blowing the fuse, diode on the coil and Q11 MOSFET. I think I looked at everything and replaced all three of the above components at least 4 times. Then I looked closer at the fuse block and removed F26-F27-F29 and kept in F28...guess what it worked. I then replaced F27 and it still worked, then F28 and it still worked and lastly F26 and it didn’t work. I really don’t understand it but the coil that serves F26 still works and the diode is good but has a small short in it enough to blow F28??? Not sure why?
If you come across an issue where the MOSFET and diode are replaced and blow, take out the fuses that serves the same group of fuses and see if it resolves the issue

Happy to help...that's what being part of the "Pinball Community" is all about...nice job on the fix!

Does anyone out there have a mint condition game that they can post Med rez photos of them so I can restore the
paint on these.
Also can the Anubus and Horus figures be removed from the top of the playfield

You can always go look at the ones in stock at Pinball Resource...I have already touched mine up so I am not sure they will do you any good...but you always check some of my previous posts to this topic of my playfield swap and see if you can use them.

Quoted from pinballinreno:

Pinballresource.com has all the parts to repair that.
Its mostly just bolt up.
How is your left ramp? Most are broken, Im trying to get some made.

Concerning the ramps, these are the original ramps that came off of my Stargate while doing my playfield swap...I was fortunate enough to locate a Sample populated Stargate playfield...the ramps on the sample were unfinished but certainly seemed to be a heavier gauge steel...something you may consider if you go into production. As you can see, my original ones had already been repaired once...in this case the fault was on the tabs from the side plates that fold under and are spot-welded to the bottom plate forming the ramp. I would assume this is the problem for most left ramps...perhaps you could reinforce that area on your new ramps...additional tabs maybe. I ended up using the sample ramps on my Stargate...they just seemed stronger.

Does anybody know if you can make small adjustments to the drop target on the right orbit shit? Mine is sitting about 1/8 inch too high. It sends the ball airborne and prevents it from completing the shot. Thought I'd ask before I took the whole mech apart to add washers.

Just some friendly owner info, you see those 2 circles painted at the top of your playfield? Those were for additional lights...I have a sample playfield and they were drilled out for the addition of extra flashers, I guess they decided to cut cost and reduce the lighting...Photo shows the cut-outs.

Quoted from zacaj:

Did it feel like they made the flippers stronger?

The flippers felt the same, the advantage for me was getting them aligned the way I needed them to be...it is just so simple with these, no dinking around tightening and loosening to get the flippers right...tighten the flipper post once and the rest is done from on top...you can see what you are doing. The mains aren't too bad on Stargate but for me, that upper flipper is a PIA. Also, I really like the anodized look of the aluminum flippers...I will most likely be adding them to a few more of my machines...Munsters will be getting a set of green ones.

#1833 1 year ago
Quoted from sullivcd40:

I was able to get all three aligned and stable, just took more time and effort than I would have hoped.

You could have made it easy on yourself by purchasing a set of "Precision Flippers" if you had the spare cash...I love them on mine. I hated adjusting that upper flipper on my Stargate. With Precision Flippers, it is so much easier as it is all adjusted from the top of the playfield.

#1835 1 year ago
Quoted from sullivcd40:

I thought about that and probably should have just done it. They have 3 flipper kits without bushings in black for $85.50 now, not too bad really. How important are the bushings?

I just kept the nylon/plastic bushings...I suppose the metal bushings would increase the strength and durability, but I have not had any issues keeping the plastic bushings. However, I will most likely add them later.

I acquired a Stargate during this past summer. Played it as much as I could until the issues began to stop me playing where I had to switch it off and lift up the playfield. I was noting down the problems as they presented themselves. It became quite a long list.
The playfield has been stripped of all parts. The skill shot ramp #31166 is broken but was able to get a new one. Am looking for the decal that goes on the back of that ramp. Anyone know where I can get one?
I am also looking for the decals on the ramps - Kurt Russell & James Spader.
The playfield has had its first clean and the mylar looks cloudy. A second cleaning will be next. So is removing the mylar a good or bad thing to try to do? Has anyone done it with success with just a few paint touchups?
Thanks.

You can try The Pinball Resource; they have some of the decals. http://www.pbresource.com/ The have the Kurt Russel decal. I removed the mylar from mine, but you risk removing some paint which may require you to touch it up. I had mine touched up and cleared by Chris Hutchins.

#2012 1 year ago
Quoted from WETHEREDS:

The scanned decals would be useful as I have a local graphics shop that can adjust/resize/color correct and print the decals from a jpeg, png,eps.. etc
This weekend is the decision whether or not to attempt to remove the mylar. Have watched a few vids of removing mylar using the freeze method. I am fortunate that I have an friend who's neice is an artist. He showed me her work and it is impressive.
I am still undecided which way to go. If I remove it then the playfield will be clearcoated after any touchups/wear repair is completed.

That's what I did with my playfield...the freeze method works really well, just take your time. Cleaning the residual glue is where the risk is, you can easily remove some paint along with the glue especially around inserts. You can see some photos of my playfield swap in this thread...unfortunately none of the mylar removal.
