Looking for a "bang-for-buck" pin to go with my TZ and Shadow.
Which would be a better fit?
Feel free to suggest others in the price range.

JD all the way

I do have both. Hmmm...I pick both.
JD seems to have a bit more, SG is just plain cool.

Depends upon what you want. Given what you have not sure if you want more flow (JD) or more stop and go (SG). Both have deeper rulesets with the edge to SG there. Both are great looking, both weigh about the same. JD does have one of the coolest features in pinball...

I say Stargate but I already owned a JD, SG just has a lot of cool stuff on the play field.

I like Stargate better.

Stargate by a mile

#8 10 years ago

Stargate gets the nod in my book.

#9 10 years ago

Kurt Russell, James Spader and I say Stargate.

Tough one. I like both... take the first that shows up nearby?

#11 10 years ago

Both are already nearby, thus my dilemma. Need to check price and condition though which may help the decision. We will see. Still interested in other opinions.

Also may have an long shot chance at a TFTC too but would need to convince my friend to sell it.
So many great games.........so little space and $.

JD. I've never played a SG that didn't feel clunky. Actually all of those late Gottliebs play that way. I'm also not sure how many times I can hear SHOOT THE PYRAMID! without losing it.

I own both, and Stargate is way better IMO. JD is a very nice pinball, but in a smaller collection, Stargate has more depth in the 'how will I play this game' where JD is mainly modes (which are fun) or multiball.
As for clunkyness: I've played different Stargates that all played very differently. I did play one that I really didn't like (even though shots could be made very well), so adjustment is really important imo.
'Shoot the pyramid'-callout is disabled by pressing both flipperbuttons at the start of a game.

Wow, lots of people on the Kool-aid, JD all day long. But SG is a fun pin.

#15 10 years ago

I have owned both. I still own JD.

SG is a fun game to play for a couple of months, but IMO, it's not a keeper...

Funny how opinions differ.
One thing I hadn't mentioned though that I think is very important for any owner: I think it's a 'must' for SG to be set on hard settings, for it really improves the (longer term) fun and challenge of the game.
