Quoted from Loganpinball:

I came up with a different solution to wireform to ramp transitions working on Mandalorian 180 scoop. I will make another Star Wars designed set using this method. I figured out a way that the wireforms can lift the ball off playfield by itself if the spacing is correct and tapered. So another shot at this mod is coming up soon. This would involve a metal flap to cover the ramp cut out on the playfield with wireforms as the entry point. It works really well on Mandalorian. Heres pictures of the Mando scoop. The ramps will be the same design..
Here is a picture of the right ramp next to the scoop ramp. Hopefully you can see the idea better. A metal flap will be placed over the ramp cut out on wood and wireform ramp will be on top of that.

Very cool!

It's really cool that you managed to keep investigating and finding better solutions ! Thanks for keeping us posted, looking forward to seeing the final SW wireforms !!

Great work. I really can't wait to see it in action on a Star Wars Pro.

It will work great. Here is a video of new designed wireform ramp on Tron. I will do star wars next!

Design #4 in progress. Two base plates installed. The left side I cut the plate to cover as much of the area as possible as there is bare wood under it.
I will post updates on this post as it goes.

Lifting fork..
Guide mounts that replace blocking wall with guide wire.
Caged entrance.

On and tested. I am not happy with this set up. The right ramp is very steep. A day just got shot to hell…

Lower rail together.

I have to move a mount and improve blocking wall on wireform by pop bumpers.
Madness ensues.. frustrating day as a screw broke off in playfield and I had to drill it out.. suckfest.

Trying one more design soon. The plate ramps perform better on the right ramp then the wireform ramp. I tried a test piece drilling 1/8 holes and the inserting the rod into hole and welding the stud underneath. I will cut a complete bottom section of ramp and drill guide holes followed by welding rods to plate. I think it will also look better then the previous attempts.. I am trying!

I saw the Tron ramps in person at Pinfest. Top notch!!

#109 1 year ago

I don't think that wireforms are a good idea for the ramp. Sticking to sheet metal looks like it would be a better choice.

Quoted from RVApinballer:

Thanks. I appologize for the display only for both machines, but last year I had my Mandalorian out there getting alot of plays and not a single question about my wireforms came from it. The display only signs resulted in alot of pictures taken and questions being asked.

Quoted from D-Gottlieb:

I don't think that wireforms are a good idea for the ramp. Sticking to sheet metal looks like it would be a better choice.

On Tron that style is needed and they play fine and fast. On Star Wars I wanted to try and cut down the labor and material costs with it. Redesign #5 in progress. This should be the middle ground point. The ramps will be plates as the base with welded studs as shown above. And the rest will be rod. It will make sense when you see it and at this point I will be posting the price for the set soon. ( i need to make 2 sets for average) I hope I manage to keep a few of you in the process.

Side note: I am seeing the milenium falcon dropped ship ramp in my head. Not the ship, just the ramp. Those posts and style as the entrance.

And I am currently looking for a Star Trek pro to do as well.

Here goes another design…
I will update this post as it goes.

Making cut out templates to mass produce the plate ramps. Dumb as I bought a plasma table, I just dont like the computer end of it. I am old. I am stubborn.. but, this I understand!

Left side in progress.

No matter how I try to do the ramp on left it takes alot of time to make it. It took 4 hours to make this ramp. Easy $700 to $800 when done for the whole set.. pretty sure that kills this. But, let me know…

Added, you can always pass on them later. The set plus shipping will be determined after I make both sides again. Labor is biggest cost on them. Just a heads up they are heading towards $700 ish with shipping.
It takes 2 full days to make them. I just want everyone to understand why so high. I will make them for anyone interested, but I understand at that price I lose people. I have to justify making them with that labor time as a business decision.

Good. Glad you're charging a rate that makes it worth your while. They look awesome.

Thank you. I am doing $755 shipped to U.S. the plates, welds, rods, sanding, polishing and playtesting takes 2 days.

Sendng out the first set this week. I bought a milwaukee nibbler. This thing rocks. Plasma cutting takes more sanding to get burns out. Starting on the list I have down from the begging. If you pass it is no problem and I understand completely.

Do you have any pics of the finished product installed in the game? This looks like an awesome mod!

I will have some pictures up by tomorrow morning at the latest. I did a bunch of revisions and this last one is the best. I am not done with the first set which is going to Automated services. Mike (owner) offered to show them at Pintastic at his booth. Great distributor and a very nice family to deal with.

First right ramp completed. Now on to left then the wireforms. I am engraving Loganpinball on underside with dates and number going forward for myself. This version looks very good and I am so glad I am done trying to figure out alternatives.

You know what happens when you mix up templates from multi versions? You make a left ramp and go to put mounts on it and realize you wasted 5 hours and material. The one I started last night is too short on drop side.. idiot. So, I started another this morning and another 5 hours to get back to where I was last night.

I need to open up the entrance ramp with these new rings. Fun..

Play video of the final designed ramps and wireforms. Both ramps and post blocker in video. They play great and make a huge visual difference. (Biased. Hate plastic ramps)..

#126 1 year ago

Pictures of final designed ramps and wireforms. It took 16 hours to complete this set. The left ramp is the bane of my existence! I will make these for anyone interested. This set is going to Automated services for the pinstastic show. Mike offered to promote them at his booth. Not sure if hes installing them on a Star Wars or just displaying them.. Either way I appreciate the offer and I always enjoy talking pinball with him. If your looking for machines he is a great distributor.

Thanks. It also works on the Mandalorian center ramp.

This takes big box and alot of bubble wrap! First set shipping tomorrow. I need to make installation instructions with pictures as well. I have all the hardware bolted to where they go on ramps or wireforms. I will post pictures / instructions here too.

I will be making the first run of these starting next week. I am scheduling my workload for the next 3 months and I am starting with Star Wars pro, Mandalorian, Toy Story and Xmen. If your still interested please pm me or post in here so I can
gauge the amount of days I need to alot just for Star Wars.
Thanks for the support and patience..

I have gotten alot of no’s and complaints on the price for the full ramp and wireforms. I understand the issue. I am not sure if anyone would be interested in something simuliar to what I am doing to my star trek pro. I am removing the plastic ramps and altering them like the premiums and le star treks ramps that adapt to wireforms. (See picture). I will be doing the samething to my star wars pro and I will post the results.
If you are I would do all the work. You would just need to send me your ramps and I will cut and modify them and send them plus wireforms back to you.
I know alot of people dont want to destroy the stock ramps. Please reserve judgement until I post the altered sets. I am doing my best to come up with a price solution. And I am taking the full ramp version down at this time. Its a solid day making the ramp, especially the left one.

I feel dirty.. amputation complete.. And going through the now scrap pile to salvage what I can.

This is just a mock up to get ideas for the connection between plastics and wireforms. I did make a 360 degree stagger and I think that will look better. I will have something figured out for the transition space at the top to the wireform that works visually. The yellow arrow is what I am reffering to.

I have agreed to sell the only complete set that was on my machine and that will be a one off Star Wars set. I cant tell you how hard that left ramp is to make. It kills the labor time. This modified design might suffer the same fate and I am ok with that. When its completed and on the machine I will post alot of pictures and if anyone is interested I will sit down and figure out the costs.

There is no question that you are talented and do great work, but what is wrong with plastic ramps? Your Mando wireforms are a godsend, because the plastic criss cross returns totally blocked the view of the playfield.

Thanks and there is nothing wrong with plastic ramps. My best answer is i am a flakey artist and enjoy making them. My wife had to have toy story and my artistic dementia kicked in. I really did not like the powder coated blue wireforms. I made replacements that are stainless steel to break up the colors. That morphed into a slink and forky wireform. I need help…But, hopefully you can see where my head is at with this example of toy story.
And I just did xmen just for the visual appearance and that resulted in a Xavier wheel chair ball blocking wall. Sometimes its very cool to just get hit with ideas and see them through.

I just started Loganpinball on instagram and I am putting up pictures of everything.

I made the cuts and installed tubular rivets on the transition on the inside of the plastic ramp. I still enjoy the look with this hybrid set. The wireform is not sanded or polished, but you can see the look is still there. And its very likely that this is for my machine only at this point. I will post the final run of pictures when it is completed.. And I cant believe how crazy the left ramp is on star trek pro. Its so nuts I am not even going to attempt it.. theres so many ball blocking plastics and posts that its shocking..

I made a very usable plated ramp for toy story with the optos being inverted and it solves alot of work. So, I figured let me see if this cuts down time making the left ramp as that is the one that really sucks to make. I started this new style left ramp at 9::30 its now 3:10. So its still 6 hours just to make this fffing left side ramp! I stll need to make the wireform.. i got blasted for the posted price on it and it really did affect my mood for a few days. Its hard to look at something and understand the amount of time somethings require to make unless you actually observe it or try it yourself. I have decided not sell these as a mod as the labor time is very high, but this will be the last set I make for the pro. I wish I could have got it done for a better price, but I can’t. And I can’t believe it still takes 6 hours for this one damn ramp..

Is the cnc plasma table up and running yet?

#143 1 year ago

It is. My biggest complaint is the amount of time it takes to clean the burn trails. I ended up buying a makita power nibbler that cuts and needs no clean up. And I am not interested in using the electro cleaner as it is chemical based and cant be good health wise, so I use the nibbler 95% of the time on everything I make.

I did finish my set for this game. Really like the look over plastics.

Looks great!

No issue doing curves with the power nibbler? I may have to pick up a pair

This makitta nibbler is amazing. Its not cutting shears, rather it punches through it. On Very tight turns you have to cut from both sides of turn. The only draw back is the amount of small metal curls that it drops while cutting. Very sharp and alot! I make a guide and clamp in place. You can freehand cut following lines and curves.

Just wanted to say THANK YOU to Loganpinball for offering his hybrid Star Wars Pro wire form ramps! Honored to have this set installed on my SW cab and it's perfect to allow the 2-Niro lightsaber mod to clear the ramp space. Can't wait to get these installed!
