I am making wireforms to replace the plastic ramps on Mandalorian Pro machines. This is the see it built thread. This is the way! Starting initial set today.

I will be selling them at Allentown pinfest. Posting the build as a timestamp as I go tonight. Left rail lower picture.

Quoted from chuckwurt:

The spots where you slide the wireforms into the plastic ramp, is that plastic ledge the ramp sits on going to stress and break over time? Anyway to reinforce that?

I thought same thing. Checking that out. Would be easy to add a plate to even pressure. Stern should just sell the ramps. It looks way better and I am a moran doing it by hand. I want to make a basic set then a fancy set. This first attempt is to work out some things to get it down. The rails are flat bar welded at bottom which creates a narrower ball guide. The ones I have always made were half circle for deeper runs. The one ramp is low to playfield and I am guessing thats why these are narrow. The half moons would be too close to playfield. Stopping for today as I have to take care of my son. Brand new game and I have not even played it. I will with wireforms. The plastic ramps are just hideous. Not done with the left, but stopping at this point for today. The pro is a beautifull looking game. My wife wants the premium which we ordered. I bought this to see if I could make a nice set of pro ramps.

You can see how low that right ramp sits to playfield so its tight. Going off pictures I see Stern has a blocker on upper part of the ramp that goes to left drop to keep the ball on track. Without it the ball goes right off it alot. I need to find that sweet spot. The one I tried kicked it to left. Kicking around ideas for it now. Will keep posting the good and bad until its done right. Using 1/16 stainless steel rods. Tricky to weld, but they look great when done and they wont rust and easy to clean and polish.

And I put on side armor for pinfest. Did not put screws in by buttons only the rails are tight to cab. I will be taking them off after the show. But, they actually look good. The machine is really beautifull in person. More then I expected.

I can do better on the ball drop and I will, but this first set is to get them down. I am doing this by hand so a machine would be crisper bends and welds.

I need smaller screws. I am using the ramp spacer with screw for now, but the left is done and works great.

Quoted from gdonovan:

Why not continue the "deflector section" all the way down to the ball drop? It would look more unified.

Stern put a smaller deflector. I could not get that sweet spot so I started it at ramp and down rail. It works great.

I am redoing the left ball catch to match the right. Its been a while and I forgot to do it the way I did for right side drop. Rails work great!

Making new left ball drop guide adding whistling birds on top. I bought new tungsten rods and they are not as good as the ones I need. Going to do this again with less rockets. I like the idea, but working it out.9

Quoted from flynnibus:

Yeah but stern's is to catch the ball dropping from the right ramp.. you're dealing with falls just due to the orientation/shape of your rails.

I put the ramp on without the wall and more than half of the shots the ball flew off track onto playfield. This set is just for my machine. I agree with blocking view its too much. The ones I am trying to sell will be basic without any artistic crap on them, just decent wireforms. I am shooting for ten sets for pinfest. I have 3 people interested at this point. So we will see if theres more. I just have to figure out the materials and time for a price. I have to see, but $100 or less is my goal. I will install and play test every set I make.

I want one. Won’t be anywhere out East any time soon though. Put me on the shipping option list.

Pm sent. Anyone else that is interested please let me know and I will keep your info. I figured out all the costs on my end and I will sell them for $90. That also covers my time and I hope thats a fair price.

Making guides and going to make all the shapes then weld together. Going assembly line style thinking it will save time. I will post these in market place soon. The few that asked first will get these sets. I need to bring a bunch to pinfest. So unless I really bang out a bunch thinking the first 5 can be shipped out. After that I want to bring the rest to pinfest. If I sell everyone made I will be making them as requested from there out. Thanks for the feedback and suggestions. The game is great, better then I expected. Finally a great star wars game has been made!

Please let me get this process settled. I am not done making two sets yet. I am close. But I might have to bump up the $90 price to cover my time. I will nail it down soon. Just give me a few days to lock down exact price. I am not looking to get rich at all. I put a stop watch on theses to track it.

Any worries about the balls getting scratched on the wireform?

Surface is smooth and ball drops are also smooth. Should not be a problem.

Quoted from Waxx:

If you could order them, they would be plated though right?

Yes sterns are chrome plated. Which is why its so expensive. Stainless steel is easy to clean and polish to a good shine. But, if you want chrome plated forms the Stern is the way to go. I have wireforms on my Discovery machine for a year now and they have not created any issues. I love the game, they did a great job at Stern. I knew I could make them and wanted to see how they looked and figured I would see if anyone else would be interested. I am shocked at the list of people I have gotten in two days.

#51 2 years ago

If your handy with welding or have a someone that would weld them for you I would sell a kit with everything shaped and ready to be assembled on your end. If thats an option let me know. I will make a kit and mark all the spots to be welded along with measured type blue prints.

#53 2 years ago

My mig welder is acting up so I am stopping for now. Changed tips, tungsten and argon. It is flashing like a bad ground. Hopefully something dumb. Its a lincoln not a harbor freight unit.

Here are a bunch of pictures of my hobbyist welding abilities on these wireforms. The bulk of them you will not see anyway, but I just want everyone to know I will do my very best, but I cant match sterns machine welds. They look fine to me, but I know how some guys are very picky. I dont want anyone to be let down or disappointed. I also put a set next to teenage mutant turtles wireforms so you can see the difference in shine. The stainless looks great for me and I made a big discovery ship wireform a while ago and they still look great. I really appreciate the comments and interest. I will do my very best!

Are you going to finish the metal surface?

They are stainless steel and are very easy to keep clean. I built this massive wireform ship for my discovery machine 9 months ago and I have beat the hell out of them and they are very durable as is. Theres stainless polish cleaners at home depot for cleaning. For reference I have not cleaned or done anything with these wireforms on Discovery in 9 months. I am not sure if you can do anything with stainless besides electro, but not positve.

Let me say when you order 270 feet of stainless rods you get asked a few questions. I mispoke on the size, they are 1/8” rods not 1/16”. Bad at math. I got my tig welder squared away. It was a air issue. I believe I answered all the pm’s if I missed you please hit me again. I have quite alot of sets to make which is awesome. I will bang out as many as I can and work down the list. I will post a seperate for sale mod ad when I figure out my average time spent soon on the next two and the exact price I will be asking. I will only ask for payment when they are made and ready to ship.

Made more sets today. It takes 2 1/2 hours to get it shaped and welded and another 1/2 hour to clean and adjust everything. 3 hours solid labor total. $12 in argon gas with 34 welds on the pair and it takes (3) 6 feet sections of stainless rods to complete.
Its a good amount of work and I am ok doing it, I just cant do for $90 as I guessed. Sitting down with the costs and the amount of time in garage for each set I have to increase it to $140. It is ok if anyone who contacted me prior wants to drop out. Just let me know and I will adjust the list. I hope this information explains the whole process and why I need to be at $140. Going forward I would be making 2 to 4 sets a weekend depending on demand.

Quoted from Ranhorton:

Random (maybe stupid) question.
Would it look too out of place to do just one of the ramps as wire form and the other keep the plastic ramp?
Maybe do the ramp that crosses the playfield as a wire form and the other that feeds the right inlane as plastic?

The plastic ramps are just bad. They look cheap and obstruct the views. My forms or Sterns are a must. It just makes the pro better visually.

Beating up the wireforms on the game I notice the long ramp had some wiggle as it was only secured to the lane guide. I added a support arm that attaches at flasher to solid stud. Its rock solid... I am trying my best to identify and resolve or improve the ramps. This was a good catch today. Progress!

Quoted from Waxx:

That seems like a pretty good idea from the look of it.

The wireforms sat under that channel loose. Not sure if the premiums or le’s are the same. But, playing the game I could see them wiggling. Now they dont move and I think this also is a great support for the entire ramp. The weight is now supported by a mount and not on the plastic cut out. Were also getting a premium. I am curious to see the wireforms on it. I am abusing this game and its a blast! Great shots, call outs, artwork, sounds and clips. Stern did a great job.

Think you might have sold a few more Pros for Stern Might wanna ask Gary for a percentage lol don’t like your chances lol lol. Great work.

I sent Gary a personal letter, not an email a few years ago about an issue I had with a NIB Kiss. Never got a reply. I dont want to go 0 for 2 in correspondence!

Quoted from russdx:

You should team up with a chrome plater and offer LE chrome plated versions for extra $$$ people will pay it!!

The stainless can be polished to a brighter shine. You would need a good plater to attempt it. Stainless steel is great for working out wireforms as they bend easier and they dont need to be plated or painted as they will never rust. And like I said earlier they are easy to clean. I like the look of the stainless as well in Mando.

I will make as many wireforms as requested. I am amazed at how many I have to make right now and I will make them all. It will take a few weeks (I still have a full time job!), but I will keep making them until the list is done. I keep getting more added everyday. I do want to bring sets to Pinfest as I have a spot on the floor. And right now I am torture testing the set in Mando for another week. I want anyone that gets these to be happy with them and I am putting every set I make in my game to playtest them for any issues. In short thank’s for the comments and the orders. I will get them all done. If your deep on the list it just will be a few weeks. I started giving out spot numbers in the last round of emails.

I’m interested in getting a set. Can you ship to me in Virginia?

Hello Brian, I will ship anywhere at the buyers expense. I just need to find the right sized tubes for shipping. The weight is nothing so shipping should be fair. I am banging out a bunch this week. Once I get to that point I will let you know. I put you on my list. This is madness! Thanks for all the interest!

The hardest part is the rails. But, I have 6 long and 4 short ready. Picking the bulk order of rods up tomorrow as I ran out today. Welder is running fine now and thats a huge difference. I had to call a retired welding friend of mine to help fix it over the phone. I offered to pay him to help me build these faster and he just laughed at me. Putting these pictures up so you can see I am serious about this mod and getting them done.

I took the set out of Mando and polished them with stainless bar clay and a dremel buffer wheel. I want you guys to see how much they shine when cleaned up. They look even better. It takes a half hour to polish the set. I am selling them unpolished. I would be willing to do it, but its an added expense of time. It is not hard to do just takes time, but if you want them polished add $25. When I get to you on the list I will ask if you want them polished. Look at them next to turtles again, but polished. Looks amazing!

Show a pic with the different finish. Polished vs unpolished

I am only looking to cover my time. I think it would be cheaper for the buyers at $140 unpolished or $165 polished. And shipping costs to your address when there done. That makes sense to me. And that was where I ended up cost wise with labor.

Pictures. In person it is a big difference, but you can really see the difference at the ball catch.

I am sticking to $140 unpolished or $165 polished and buyers paying shipping. I think that is fair for us all. When I get your set done I will email you and you can tell me which is better for you.

Quoted from TheHive:

This is unrelated to the mandalorian pro but not to this thread because Loganpinball is killing it on these custom wire form ramps. In fact the only reason I didn’t initially put a deposit on a pro is the plastic ramps. This brings me to my question. Is there a reason that stern doesn’t have the ball drop location on the roll over switch? So on Tron and Star Trek for example, the ball lands right on the roll over switch for both left and right ramps. Then you can add a cliffy so the ball is landing on metal and not wood. I hobby weld myself and if I were making them I would have the ball drop on the switch and then protect it with a cliffy. But I’m ocd so I’m sure that doesn’t matter to most pinheads.

Geometry is my guess. Look at the ramps line of sight to returns you would have to go over the sling to get ball to switch or create a turn in wireform. Could be cheaper too make a straight ramp too. It could be done but it would require a turn.

Quoted from viper001:

What I noticed is how much those plastic ramps flexed when the ball was traveling across them. And I sucked so it was always just a single ball, I can't imagine how flexy it would be during a multiball with a good player that can repeat ramp shots. I get that this 3 trim level deal is working for them but we may have finally hit the "too downsized" point with those ramps. A shame because otherwise the Pro seems really nice and easy to live with.

Not sure if the premium or le’s will act the same as my pro prior to the bracket. Playing it I saw them moving side to side. That bracket locks them into place and the balls fly across with great speed. Just picked up the order of stainless. I will build every set requested as best that I can in a timely manner. If your at the later part of list, please be patient. I will build them all!

Long rail lower = 11
Short rail lower = 10
Ball guide long = 20
Ball guide short = 22
Long wall = 18
Short wall = 19
Flasher bracket = 18

Previous rod stock:

In progress.
6 Long rail lower ready
4 Short rail lower ready

Completed.

I will be mailing out the first (5) sets prior to Pinfest. And like I said I want to bring atleast 10 sets to the show at the last week of July. If I can get more than 10 made prior I will be very happy to send them along too. Thanks again for the interest. The Pro Model Rules! Its just as good as Deadpool pro. Sure theres a bump up in the other models, but its really a blast at pro level.

330! When you weld a wall gate on the wrong side of a rail its time to stop. Got 7 done. My wife motivated me with a statement. Nothing bad, but it was equal to telling a hitter “ hey dont strike out” as he walks to the plate. I had to get a hit tonight! Only 41 more sets to make!

Trying not to over bomb the forum, so I will keep jaming updates together.

First five long ramps done! Now the wife needs to go to target! Test fitting and playtesting.

I am leaving room for fine tuning on the points that go to flasher and ball return lane. I will include the hardware needed. Screws and washers. You will need to use a washer on both sides of mounts. The return guide screw point in tiny. For my bracket to be tight enough to go on it, they would not be adjustable. I will take pictures of everything and how you should install them with every set. Its easy to do. And here is a picture of height of rail.

First completed and polished wireform shown in two vise jig.

Great idea on that additional attachment point at the transition from plastic ramp to wireform. That will really help strengthen that area I think.

Well funny you should say that. I had to do the same thing for the other ramp! Playtesting a set of forms I noticed it had some side to side movement. Apparently no matter how you try to build a template there are variances. So, I had to find a point at the front of that ramp and make another bracket. Please be patient. I need to figure out better connection point on small ramp at ball return lane. I had to invert the angle on the run I just made. I might have to get hardware for the front right sling so it has a stud that I could move bracket to left side. In progress. I dont want any issues for anyone. They need to be done right and I am torture testing them and I am finding things that need to improve or change. The long rail is good to go. I need to tweak the other into something more simple. See pictures for new bracket by horseshoe. I really think going to front sling with stud is the answer. I will keep updating as I get there. I dont want to send out anything until I have done my very best.

Well Jackass bent the right returns with wrong die. They are bigger. Apparently welding after midnight is not a good idea.

Noticed that it sometimes seems to be hitting the end of the lower guard wire and then bouncing back in at one point. I think i only saw it once though.
If you open the youtube link on a pc. Full screen and while playing press the number "4" on the keyboard it will take you directly to the point just before it hits.
Keep hitting 4 for it to repeat.

Ramps are adjustable. They might need to be readjusted on a different game. I also added another center support or right ramp to cut down bounces. These work fine please see videos.

There a few welding supply shops around my area hoping they have one in stock. Online ranging from 128 to 200. I go back to work Monday. Not worried about the costs. Its the time off to keep building sets. I cant do much until I get a hose. And next weekend I should be getting my stern altered TNA painted cabinet back, i got the back box already and thats going to kill next weekend swapping it over. I am bringing Mando, altered TNA and my Star Trek Discovery machine to Pinfest. I just polished the Discovery ship wireform. Oofa. Compare this to mandos wireform is just silly! Threw shirts under it to see the wireforms.

Dark Saber edition ramp! This is artistic crap I like to do. Not for everyone, but its a little detail on the ramp that works for me. I put it along the side as a finer detail. On top it was too much it looks great and is not blocking the view at all of playfield much more than the block wall.

The only way to know if something will work is to do it. Laser cut stainless plate shadow cut would be the way to go. Just like the ball drop mech in back.

Steel supplier laughed at another 250 feet order pick up. Got more argon and I am upgrading the hardware to fastenal screws and washers.
I think I want to tweak the ends of the ball returns. Stay tuned.

I am revising the ball drops to this 3 piece post support over a single. I was having some bounce backs with single posts on some of the sets. I am adding more labor time as a result and I bought better mounting hardware to be included with the ramps. Let me make sure I am done revising the ramps. This set is working great so hopefully this is the final tweak. This whole process has been a learning curve. I hope you guys understand I want you to be very happy with the ramps. And I want them to perform. I will need to adjust my price as a result. Let me make sure this is the final tweak and I will post where I need to be going forward. Its all about labor time, nothing else. Just tuning them in takes 20 minutes.

Heres a video with left ramp 3 post design. It is more solid and consistent. This ramp is not polished.

Stern. You made this guy work so hard for your mistake.

Its alot of tweaking and effort to get it done to where I am ok selling them. I dont want to rush out sets to just sell. I want them to be great. So yes thanks Gary! This machine does not warrant plastic ramps!

First set of revised ramps played great. Going to make another two sets to make sure they play just as good. I think “this is the way!”. The green zip tie means polished and played..

I will make detailed instructions for installation. Very simple, but if you need to adjust them you have to do it in a very specific way. Stainless is very pliable and is great to make shapes and they look great polished. The cost of that is they are not as sturdy as standard steel. If you need to adjust these wireforms at your house on your game you need needle nose pliers and regular pliers. You MUST bend at a point away from the welds. If you bend at the weld it is likey to snap off. All you need to do is go below the weld and force in needed direction with other pliers. You can wrap stainless rod around your arm into a circle. If you straighten it back to a flat line it is already weakened. I hope this makes sense to buyers. And I am fitting every set to my game, so adjusting should be minimal. Look at the pictures and see I am holding the rod below the weld and reshaping with my other pliers. I will help anyone that needs it.

Two sets made, tuned and polished took me 8 hours. I learned that the each set is its own thing. My god man.. I did learn there is a critical ball drop opening diameter. Too big you get bad rebounds. Too narrow just doesnt work, there is a sweet spot. Today sucked. But, I have 2 sets ready. The previous sets are no good. I have to start them over. I had a support post on inside diameter of ball drop. The ball would strike that post over the rails and I think over time that would create issues. Now the posts are on outside diameter and the ball hits the entire round part of rail. Shitty day. Kicked my ass with these. Pictures are of set number 2.

Quoted from Riefepeters:

For sure! Me included. Everything you’ve done to date has value, and there are a bunch of other cheap folk like me that would line up for a first run discount! And there are a ton of folk that will gladly wait to get your “perfected” ramps at a higher price.
Maybe you have accidentally expanded your market!
Start. Selling. Now!!

I cut the ends up on the other sets yesterday. The constant impact point was a vertical line in center of those ramps. I was concerned that design would actually damage or pit the ball over time and thats not worth that risk.

This is a different type of wireform that I have never made before. The flat bar welded type causing a few things. First and foremost is the height of the ball on the rail. It sits very high and creates travel impact on the end way more than c chamnels. That is the learning curve with these. If they were c channels I would be able to bang these out like a machine. But, the lower rail does not have room for c channel type. If you look at my discovery rail you can see the return top rail does not even have to be above the drop hole. The ball even at speed just falls through. It was the possibility of damage to a ball long term that I was concerned about and the reason I cut them up already.

I’ve been following from the start. Commend your work and dedication. My two cents would be take a closer look at your ball drop / catch loops compared to ones in other games.
Hope this puts you in the direction your looking to go. Keep up the good work keep it fun and you will enjoy making them! Best of luck freddy.

Thanks. I am trying a bigger die on the lower drop. We will see if this does better. The ones on discovery are big and they work great. Version # 4.. oooooofa

Timelined build for my benefit and so you can see the time it takes to build them. This last version looks to be the best. They still can be fine tuned better, but they bolt on and look best of all of them. I am going to see if I can do anything with the ones I cut. I cut out the ball drops, I need to see if I can get them reshaped to this new drop circle shape. And I updated my template board.

Heres a video of this last version. The left ramp bolted on and needed no tuning. The right seems to need minor tuning. Either way these are way better for me to make. The tuning was a little crazy on previous versions.

Quoted from TheHive:

Nice work on the latest Mando ramps. I’d love to see a video of your Discovery pinball in play! See that ball travel through all those wire forms.

Heres a video of it. Launch ball you have 3 shots. Soft plunge to pop bumpers, moderate plunge to right discovery rail and hard plunge to left discovery rail. And there is a vuk that is fed by rotating mech drop that fires ball back up to discovery ship, on its path there is a alternating mech so vuk goes left to right.

Code is none existant. Its been sitting since I tackled TNA redo. And led are too bright. Need ro lower the gi.

Quoted from TheHive:

Wow that’s impressive! Thanks for the video! How’s the play feel having ramps in TNA? It’s a game I’d love to get in my collection sometime. Adding ramps to it is an interesting idea.

TNA is fantastic. I just hate the cabinet and artwork. I moved it into a Stern cabinet and it just looks way better. The horshoe ramp works with plastic transitions. I tried stainless steel and they just dont work. I need to make another set of plastic transition ramps. All I took away was the 2 stand up targets. I have a switch made up that only registers the ball traveled, left or right. It just makes it more fun for me. I got lit up on some podcasts. Very weird hearing the designer dog your project, but its his right. Heres a video of the horshoe working. The switch is not on this ramp. This ramp was to prove it was doable.

Star Wars Pro wireforms next???? Please?????

I would need to see a pro in person to see if it makes sense. The ramps are metal on premiums. I would need to buy the metal ramps to make the wireforms. Those are tight turns and not easy to make. The hyper loop would be deleted. I would be up to it if enough people were interested when I am done or caught up with mandos.

Quoted from blairan213:

Hang in there. Keep in mind, your "worst" work is better than anything else out there, and you can rest assured that there is a line of folks that would purchase those early rails no questions asked; knowing that they "may have issues over time." Maybe offer them up at a discount instead of scrapping them, to recoup some of your costs? We are all rooting for you! You are a skilled and dedicated man, for sure.

I have (3) sets of version 3 ramps that I am selling “as is”. All 3 work and are completed. I put each of them on my machine and they do work. There is minor rebounding on the left ramp on some of them. Anything with a green zip tie is good to play. Red have minor rebounds. I expanded the drop hole on them and that improved them alot. I will be selling version 4 ramps going forward. Posting pictures of the 3 sets on this post for sale. Shipping is included to anywhere in the u.s only, excluding alaska and hawaii.

First I want to thank everyone for the interest in these wireforms. I am happy to say that this last version #4 is what I am going to be selling. A couple of things have changed on my end. We started a LLC for tax reasons (LoganPinball). And from this point on I am making this version only and I will be polishing every set. Its a good thing to do on my end as I see the quality of all the welds in doing so and correct any that need it. I have also decided that doing assembly line building is not good enough for me. I am doing one set at a time and I am walking from my garage to my game room with every bracket, supports and walls. The quality difference in this way of building shows up at the end. I am very proud of these last two sets I have made. They look amazingly better. I hope I don’t loose too many of you off the list, but I understand if you want to drop out. I need to charge for the labor involved in this level of rails. Please send me a message and I will update the list. Here are pictures and a video showing the quality of these rails.

$220 Shipped to U.S. except Alaska and Hawaii.
All other shipping will be determined to your location. I am shipping in 24” uline shipping tubes that are 3 1/4 inch diameter. They will be bubble wrapped and secure for delivery. I will be sending everything UPS ground.

I’m still in for a set of version 4 for $220 shipped. Loganpinball, did people put in orders for multiple sets? If so I’m wondering how you feel about fulfilling everyone’s order for 1 set and then circling back to get the multiple orders fulfilled.

Amsl was #27 on list. Sorry to loose anyone, but I understand. The price increase is all to cover the increase in the labor time to do them right. I only have one more multiple order, but they might drop out as well. Austrailia 4 sets. When I closer to them on the list we will see where we are at.

I’m in still.

Thanks! I am trying to build one ramp a day during the week because I had to scrap all the others. Did one right side tonight.

Brought some rods to work to mess around at lunch time. My razor crest is falling apart! I think I am going to try and build a replacement with the rods. Not a skeleton as in picture, but think of the ship built completely out of rods in 3d. I can see it in my head. I layed this out on my desk and I see possibility. Done right I think it would work. Again, unless I try I have no idea if it will..

You've done great work on the wire-form ramps, but with all due respect I think anything like the saber or razor crest made out of rods is only gonna appeal to welders

Not selling them. Its only an idea for my game only. I get it. I see something in my head and I am that guy that will try it.

Still doing one rail a day. Got another set ready, just need to tweak right.

This machine is getting hammered!

Starting to ship sets. I am including these instructions with the wireforms, I figure it was a good idea to post here as well.
I have my game leveled using pinguy app. It works great when your by yourself and your game should be very close to mine.
If you need to make any bending adjustments on brackets please see pictures about bending away from a weld.

Rebounding if needed ( higher pitched games) can be tuned in by bending the top rail above the drop out hole towards the center of drop out. The impact point is the top rail. There is a sweet spot. I have them adjusted to my machine. It should be good or very close as is. But, if you want to adjust take rails off machine and take a pair of pliers and put them down over the U shaped support and bend forward or backwards lightly. If you do adjust that point, double check that the lower rails are still flat. If they bend you can straighten with hand pressure. I will post a picture later of that point.

My artist will not have the alternate artwork TNA cabinet done in time for the show in Allentown so I am doing nothing but making wireforms all weekend as a result. But if anyone is interested this TNA project is also on the forum. Here is one side completed on cabinet. The yellow voltage warnings are not lettered yet. From here on out I will only post Mando wireform info here.

#248 2 years ago

I only sent out one of the completed forms to an operator. I am sending him revised version for free. The set I gave him should be fine, but the right thing to do is send him a pair of these..

Quick play of them on game video below. Did not go crazy aligning in lane, but you can really see the difference. The good out of all of this is now I should be able to hammer out the list far quicker now. It was really frustrating tuning them. Each one is different and acted its own way.

Quoted from Apinjunkie:

1 take away from this project is... You're getting a lot better at those ramp shots. Really appreciate all you're putting into this.

I turn off ramp divertor and all I do is shoot at both ramps. Over a hundred games of just aiming for ramps! And The ones I made worked, but required alot of tuning in the right bends to get the ball to drop well. Real pain in the ass. It was crazy. Now these are make put on and just make sure they are good. I have not adjusted any of the bends or welds. Big difference..

Got two sets of these done. Bolt on and play! The past two weeks were a bust.

Not sure how to mark them but good idea.

And its painfull to cut off all the ball drops on all these forms, but retrofitting to new drop design today.

I hit my first goal of the first 5 on the list before Pinfest. I have 7 sets for pinfest and that goal was 10. I will get there. After Pinfest I will work down the list as fast as I can. Anything that does not selll at Pinfest will go to spot 6 and up.

I am using the time I gained from not having to tune these in to stoning the visable welds, sanding and polishing the rails. They look great.

And a special shout out to Zach! I was finishing these while listening to his podcast and it was a great suprise. Thank you Sir.

I like a lot more the look of the left one vs the right one, the bottom circle where the ball drop.
Is there a reason why it is different on some sets? I know it's all hand made, is it because you try different style?
Thanks and great job again!
[quoted image]

Some of these are previous sets retrofitted to new version staggered rails and I have been reshaping them as I go through the pile. Anything with a zip tie is playtested. These are the same rails from previous pictures and you can see the holes are closer to each other. I do this by hand using a vise holding a die and my hands. The larger hole required a sharper bend that is made with my hands and a pair of pliers. Then I have to put the rails in a jig and stretch the drop hole rail points with hog ring pliers to straighten rail to circle point evenly. Every set is unique, but look at this picture and you can see the changes, but close to each other. I hope that explains the process. And I am trying to match sets to be as close as possible with that drop hole.

I started to polish them to keep the my game from getting destroyed by the ball picking up crap on the rails prior to playing them. Thats why the pile is clean, but not completed.

I have gotten better with the drops with each set made. It took me a few to get it down thats also a cause of the variance. Here are pictures of each step. All by hand. A machine could do this better of course, please understand that I am not a machine.

Thanks Tommy. He has version 3. I am sending him the version 4 ramps for free, and I will be retrofitting those to newer version. And I was asked if I would donate a set to project pinball for sfge. I agreed and there will be a set there for the auction.

Quoted from flynnibus:

Congrats on making it this far! Have enjoyed you sharing your journey with us. You'll probably need to hide at allentown because I'm sure you'll sell those ramps in 15mins and then spend the next 3 days telling people 'sorry, sold out... '
Look forward to seeing TNA!!

Another thanks. I like reading projects here, so I figured others might be the same. I already have 6 people picking up at pinfest. I spent the morning bending up all the parts and only got 2 sets done ao far.

Tna... i told the artist if she had it done by noon tomorrow I could probally switch it over in time for the show. If that happens then no more wireforms will be made until after the show. The cabinet makes such a huge difference. Spookys cabinet is too small. It looks like a modern game in a stern cabinet. And I really did not like the artwork, so I decided to change it. The horsehoe ramp worked great with plastic transitions. They do not work with metal ones. I can not find the old plastic ones I made. Depending on if she gets it back to me, my priority is cabinet swap. If I have time I will make plastic transitions and bring it with the horsehoe. Worse case I will just put the stand ups back in for now.

Quoted from Apinjunkie:

that looks fantastic! Is that the same artist that did the discovery pin for you? Nice work!

Thanks! Yes she is very good and can translate my drawings perfectly. The only thing that sucks is she did not contnue the purple down the sides and the leg is covering the logo. I pointed all this spacing out when I dropped it off. That was a few months ago so its ok, just wish I caught it.

Thanks to the people that stopped by and said hello. I had to leave early for personal reasons. The game got 90 plays in just under 4 hours. The rails took the beating and I had no complaints or issues with them and they were the only ones on it the entire time. They perfomed well and I am happy about that as so many different people abused them. Sorry to anyone I missed by leaving that was picking up rails.(family)

I did pick up pingraphix artblades. They do match the colors well.

Finally got around to activating my account because after seeing all the craftsmanship that went into each set I had to give you props for how great these look. Mando's gonna be my first ever pin and gets here on Wednesday so these look like a must. Strong work!

Added. I am now shipping in the teens. I will update when I hit the 20’s, 30’s, 40’s and the 50’s range. Creeping up on 60. Amazing....

Have you actually sent people numbers? I PMd a few times but never got a number, yet you’re referencing numbers and people in line so just wanted to ensure I didn’t miss anything!
My October Pro came this week already!

I started to when they pilled up. You sir are # 17. I sent emails out to a few before you on the list as I have some to send out. I am Giving them a few days to respond. Either way yours will be sent or made by next weekend at the latest.
I might have missed emailing you on a number. Sorry if I did. My mail box is over 60 on these.

UPS has billed me an additional $16.00 for a shipment on one of the orders. I called them to find out why and I get additional handling fee? They cant explain it further than that? I have 3 shipping out today, but I am upset with ups. I just paid $38 to ship a less then 2 pound tube regular ground. I cant keep loosing money like that on shipping. Next round is going out usps.

Update: A coworkers brother works at ups. Anything that is not boxed shaped gets additional handling charge. He said that the other 9 that I mailed out should have been charged as well. Guess I will see if they bang me on the couple out now and the 3 going out today.

I have a box of shipping tubes that I need to use up. So I need to send them usps or risk getting charged by ups. Anything that is not box shaped gets charged. Guessing I was lucky on the others. The 3 going out today I am taking a chance, but I already paid the shipping.

I cancelled the ups shipping on the 3 I had today, not risking $16 per tube. Lunacy!!

#296 2 years ago

I just ordered square boxes. it seems tubes are a thing with fedex and ups. A coworkers wife has a small business and he said the postal service have lost or not delivered a bunch of items. I dont want to deal with any of that. So, once I get the boxes I will ship them back out. Sorry for the delays.

Thats too bad. Enjoy the game! I am still making one rail a day and more on the weekends until the list is done. Another set down...

I ordered 280 feet more of stainless rod last week. It never took this long to get more.. I hope this is not an issue as I just used last few pieces to make this one... stainless is real tricky to weld and I want to keep using the same supplier as I tried another suppliers stock and it would not weld correctly.

If anyone needs to shrink the drop hole on either ramp for any reason it is very easy to do. I was asked about this so I am posting this here for others to see if needed. Take a pair of pliers and squeeze as shown. Center them on the hole and gentlly squeeze the pliers to shrink the size. Do it slowly and off the machine. Its better to make smaller adjustments then to make a big one.
If you go too hard and need to open the hole just put the pliers inside the hole and expand it.

Now shipping in the 30’s...

A co worker has a friend that deals with stainless steel in his job and said there is a good chance of a supply shortage hitting me as it has already caused issues for his business aquiring it. As a result I bought enough rods (618 feet) to build all the remaining 51 sets yesterday. Picking that order up tomorrow so were covered.. I will always make atleast one rail a day monday to friday and 3 sets on weekends until were caught up. Please hang in there with me. My goal is shipping out 3 to 5 sets a week. And that takes 12 to 20 hours of my time per week.

I am exploring the idea of making sets for other machines once I am done here.
Are there any other machines out there that would be popular enough to make wireforms for that would be worth while?

I am not done with the jjp gnr standard game I just picked up, but I did get rid of the ugly catwalk forms and got the mech to work on the right side rail on these rough sets. This is a project for my game. Any thoughts or input would be great. Nothing will come close to Mandalorians demands, I am just looking for something that could do 10 sets or more.

Pondering machine ideas:
Xmen pro
Star trek pro

I’d be interested in Star Trek pro ramps. You could also consider gotg… pro/premium are the same so wider audience and wireforms would be cool on that game.

Star trek seems like a good choice. I have the Le so I would need to buy a pro again. Gotg also looks very doable. Thanks for the input.
I have a few people asking me about my gnr snake ramps now. Alot of labor on these not sure yet. What ever I do next sales wise will be after mandalorian run is up. But, I really dig the gnr machine and where I am heading with it..

Okay that looks kind of crazy. I want to see how that’s gonna work!

The ramp is so damn wide I was able to make it have 2 shots. It works on the machine. The only way to get to snake head rail is left flipper as soon as ball clears sling. And the jjp flipper does have enough power to make the loop.

I have been waiting for a few replies from a few interested people on the list. Some over a week now. Going forward if you do not reply within a week of a email saying your set is ready I am going to the next person on the list. You can still get ramps, but you will be bumped down and added to another run of wireforms. I should be shipping in the 40’s by next week. I just banged out a few more.

I would like to buy a set for Mando pro.

Added to the list # 88.

Quoted from topkat:

If you can make the one for bk2k that would be great. Its the one feeding the upper pf to the lower.. That wire ramp is impossible to find, and I know there are bk2k owners that would snatch it up quickly

I would need the machine in my shop or a wireform to copy. I can make it if I had either.

Quoted from dri:

Where were you when I wanted wire form returns on GOTG?
[quoted image]

I am open to making wireforms for other machines after Mandalorian. I saw gotg when I looked at the top 100 games for other machines and agree it looks very doable. If I can get 10 people on a interested list I would try and buy a machine to make them. I had Tron twice. That is a machine I wish I made wireforms for. I think that would have looked amazing. .

#392 2 years ago
Quoted from dri:

Tron is difficult because ramps are a single unit on Tron. Not like GOTG where the returns are separate.
If you ever get to Stranger Things (has a similar solution as GOTG), please sign me up.

Get 10 people and I will make them.

My hands are shot. Stoned, polished and playtested these 4. All being shipped out tomorrow.

Thanks!!! Just let me know when I need to pay.
Can these rails be powder coated?

They need to be treated by a person familiar with stainless steel properties. Short answer is yes, but ask questions to whomever your considering to have them done. The rods are 303 stainless steel. Share that with the painter and see what they say.

#396 2 years ago
Quoted from Bluthgg:

I’d love to purchase a pair as well if there is still room on the list! I’m pretty new here but excited as The Mandalorian is my first NIB.

Added #89. Theres no cap. As long as they are wanted I will make them. It will be a little bit for you as I am only closing in on shipping in the 40’s shortly.

I am not on facebook, but my friend is and he sent me this comment about my welds left on Tommys posts. I decided to destroy a rail to prove a point. What is going to be harder on my rails? A small steel ball or this metal post? You decide. I consider this a successfull stress test, but thats me!

Quoted from EternitytoM83:

They're talking about Stern's factory welds on the ramp diverter, not yours. That poor rail died for naught.

Hillarious! Still a good stress test! And this rail was a version 3 that I was not able to convert, so it was in scrap pile anyway. The loop lost too much material grinding and had a kink in middle.

Its seems not! And up to order #94 now. The video of me beating a rail to death is on previous page. No welds broke..

And back to ground hog day in garage....

Ground got loose and ruined a rail arch burned. Followed by too much heat on the next rail equals time to quit for the night.
I just need to stone, polish and playtest the 4 on table prior to shipping. I did finish the Gnr today.

They aren’t talking about your rails.

I know that now, but I got an email asking me if the rails would hold up. Thats the only reason I reposted about it and the video.

And from this point forward I am only accepting paypal friends and family. The paypal fees are adding up and I have been paying over $20 for shipping on a bunch of shipments. Its too much of a hit. Or you can pay $228.46 would be regular paypal transaction.

5 sets just need to playtest I will be reaching out to the next group soon. I picked up a bench grinder from
Home depot. Ryobi 59.99, works pretty well for that price better for grinding, the polish wheel is limited as it has no variable speed. It spins too fast and grabs forms in spots.

Any other options to ship a 24x9x9 7.5lb box to Australia? Ups and fedex are insanely priced! I have no faith in usps mail system and I am trying to help out a buyer in Australia that is buying 4 sets as a group buy. But the shipping makes no sense? I am posting this here so he can see the lunacy is not made up.

How about DHL? Do they go to The Land Down Under?

He is working on a solution now with a company called shopmate in Oregon.

Update from location, several hundred plays and they are holding up better than all the factory stern parts on the machine... [quoted image]

Thank you Sir!

Correct, it is almost cheaper to buy an air ticket and fly them in baggage - except most of Australia is in a major lock down atm and you would also need to quarantine in a hotel for 14 days at your expense - that's if the Australian government will even let you in!

I have not been able to even get home because of the hurricane that hit north jersey. I work for a utility and doing double shifts as a result including sleeping at the job just sucks! Trying to go home tonight. I could not even get one block away from my job as every street was flooded. This is the only time I am glad I have a long commute to work. I hope everyone up here is ok. Alot of damage. I heard and felt a house explosion and a transformer blowing up yesterday.

Another of why did I not do this from the start moment...

Nice! New and improved!

Version 5.3 i think, I lost track. This bracket type is way easier because is has no 90 bends. I had to go around left sling nut, but thats easy. These work great. The ball height is perfect. I stand behind previous brackets, these are just easier to make and put on rails.

I bought different boxes that open longwise. I am able to pack 4 sets for our friends in Australia! Ups global in this box is $212.02 and thats reasonable.. Making more sets for the others on the list tomorrow. Fridgejam got lost in my emails. I had to scramble and get them done for his group buy.

One and only reply to this.

We could not agree to shipping terms. The prospect of a paypal dispute and 16 hours of labor lost are too much of a risk. This order involved multiple people (4) each paying for one shipment being handled by (2) different shippers across the globe. They could not accept or understand my concerns. As a result I gave up. Nothing more. I said this in multiple messages and I was told “we are ok if it gets lost” in shipping. I had ups for $200 to Austalia and it would have been shipped out. They still insisted on other shipper being involved? That is why I gave up. No one was listening.

I will not reply to anything further concerning this. Pinside turns into a mess with this crap. You said your side, now I said mine. Lets leave it there.

Shipping at #45. Waiting on 2 other replies.
Making 3 more sets today.

I have other projects I really want to tackle, but until the list done they wait. Be patient I am motivated to get on to next project.

And playtesting tonight I saw potential for further madness.. ramps are segmented.. I am going to try some funky stuff this weekend!

PS the new dragon form looks insane! Looking forward to getting on that list as well, amazing work!

This mod draws blood! All the spikes are sharp as sxxt. I added legs to the other side. It looked weird with only two, but I had to bring them in more than the other. It looks fine. This is something I really enjoy doing. Unique wireforms. This one is my favorite to date. It just looks mean.. But it costs alot of time. This rail would not be cheap. I am open to selling this krayt mod after standards are done. If we ever get our premium I know I could do this mod to it as well. Thanks for following my crazyness and the compliments.

Quoted from SSgtDevilDog:

If you end up making a bunch of these do you think it will be possible to attach it to your current wire forms? Like maybe we send the wire forms back to you and they get welded together? Nice work!

It seems I have enough people interested to make this krayt ramp. The best option would be one piece for the ball travel. The bulk of the work is prior to where the original wireform connected. It would take more time to try and put the two together over just a single track. This mod just hit me the other day.

And just need to stone, polish and playtest these and I have a set boxed up to ship. I want to send them all out same day as its easier for me.

Got 4 sets done today. 5 will be ready to ship in a few days...

Ice spider ramp?

It looks out of place anywhere besides left corner. I like the idea, but so far cant get it.

Quoted from Ranhorton:

Just recieved the wireforms!
Thank you Jay! Only took 2 days delivery!
These wireforms are built like tanks.
Still tweaking them a bit so I stop getting bounce outs on the left inlane (sometimes hits the slingshot plastic and rolls down on top of the plastic towards the center drain, sometimes it hits the outlane guide rail and bounces into outlane or rattles between the two).
Anyone else who has installed them have any advice?
Needless to say these are well worth the investment for any Mando Pro owners!!!

Adjust the upper rail to lower rail opening. They might have got banged around. The rebounds are all related to where the upper rail hits the ball. You want the rail to hit towards top of the ball, so it just deflects it downward. Any issues pm or post it here. Shipping might have squeezed them a bit theres a sweet spot. And make sure drop hole is centered. I play all sets in my machine. But I have had a few get tweaked in shipping.

#486 2 years ago

Known fixes

Rebounds.
I just tuned this set and they work great. The gap should be 1/2 inch or a hair bigger and ball drops fine with no rebound.Open it up a bit by just pulling up on the upper rail and try again. Stainless is great, but it also can bend in shipping.

Ball flys off smaller.
The little blocker wall in top left of rail is too close to ball guide. Adjust rail with screw hold down push the the rail away from screw and tighten. If needed the blocking wall can be bent with pliers away from ball guide.

Waiting on some replies... last batch is all boxed up. I will make some more soon and continue on the list. I had 3 people get lost in the list and they are made right with this run.. it knocked me back a few timewise. My fault!

I am not finished with this dragon rail, but its very close. I need to adjust, stone, polish and playtest it. I redid the design to improve a few aspects. This one is sold. I will start another forum topic just for this style rail. I am not sure if I am limiting these to a certain number yet. It takes a solid 8 hours to make.

Quoted from sbauers73:

I actually didnt think the plastic ramps were that bad and didnt bother me much but I installed these last night and its an enormous difference. They look fantastic, fit perfect and really changes the games view. Props to loganpinball, great product!

Thanks. Its a great game and the plastic ramps had to go.

Quoted from gunstarhero:

The two mounting points make all the difference. I was super impressed how much more solid they feel and it really tightens up the whole pro experience.

I am suprised the other models are just floating in that ramp. Theres two easy point ls of contact at the ends.

I shaped a bunch of the common parts for another run of ramps. Will do more this weekend. I just have to watch my blood pressure. Had a trip to er last wednesday as it was over 200. (Work related). The welding is a good distraction for me to not go nuts. I am ok now. Just cant be stupid ( welding until 2am) anymore.

Back at it. I made a krayt dragon and to do that I can only focus on that until its done due to test fitting rails. Its back up to regular rails now. If you have any interest on krayt dragon I will make them or add them to your name on the list. For both rails and dragon version $650 excluding shipping. It takes 12 hours to complete them. Pictures of finished dragon.

Anyway, back to it.

Quoted from cfh:

I made my own set of metal habit trails for the Mandalorian pinball. Had some old Theater of Magic metal rails laying around. The right side was easy, just some cutting and bending to make that work on the Mando (used the metal rail that holds the Theater of Magic magnet.) The cross-over ramp was more work. Required a bit of TIG welding and bending, but nothing too invasive. I really like how the cross over ramp came out. It's not straight... Haven't powder coated them yet, still trying to figure out what color to do...

https://vfwpinball.com/games/stn_mandalorian3.jpg

You need to bracket the top parts of both wireforms. The vibrations will start to dig into that opening and eventually destroy your plastic ramps.

Quoted from Mopedman:

Can you still get on the list to get a set of these? They look soo much better then the plastic! Good work.

Added #112. I am making them as long as they are wanted. Once I am done with the list I will keep a few in stock. I am shipping in mid 70’s now.

Quoted from Ranhorton:

I’m constantly dialing my Mando Pro each week and tonight I tweaked the metal ramps you sent me and holy crap - now they play even quicker and smoother. Balls fly straight down the ramps, no rattle, no semi-spin or bobbling at the ramp exit…just pure flow! These ramps are the best investment for the pro hands down.

Awesome. Thanks. There is a sweet spot for sure. I get them were I am happy with how the ball drops, but they can be tuned to be really sick. I am really happy that I am down to the last 13 sets on the list. They will be done!

Thanks, its a great star wars game. We are keeping the pro. We ordered a premium in May and will be passing on it whenever we get the call that its in, so someone will be happy. The price hike on premiums is just too stupid and waiting for 6 months and counting just killed the interest. I look forward to Stern showing a machine and being able to get it within a few weeks, not months whenever the supply issues get resolved.

And that means I will be selling ramps and wireforms for that very soon.. i am currently developing Tron wireforms with center mounted lights. These lights look amazing. I will do regular rails and I have enough people interested in making star wars rails with these lights that I will try. The pictures below show the look. I am open to trying anything. So stay tuned for that.

Quoted from Ranhorton:

So far I’m loving your wireform ramps!
Amazing quality and appearance.
Quick question.
The ball sometimes drops off the wireform during a fast shot (talking about the smaller right wireform).
I’ve tightened the top screw a couple times since it does sometimes loosen and the wire form shifts a bit, but I also recently noticed that there is a bit of a bend in the entire wireform that makes it “droop” a bit to the right.
Is it “safe” for me to gently manipulate/twist this wireform to straighten it a bit?
I’m assuming there is a lot of tolerance in your welds so I won’t break anything.
Again, love your craftsmanship! Best mod for Mando Pro…hands down!

First, sorry for any issues. Yes you can bend them easily without worry. I would try the lower option first, but here is what I do on my end.

Take the rail off game first. Then you can do two things. If you have a vise you can put it in the vise just enough to hold in place on one end and take a pair of smooth needle nose or smooth pliers and twist as needed.

Or you might need to bend the upper ball guide the u bracket away from the rails just a little more. I would try this first..

After tweaking throw the ball up ramp by hand and watch the ball. You should see its traveling path and if you still need to tweak.

I cant believe I am still getting orders weekly. I doubt any other machine will ever touch this level of interest. It was needed and its Star Wars is the only explanation. Seriously thank you to all the buyers.

I know a guy that welds stainless steel (me) that wants to switch out the razor crest for a naboo fighter. Going to try and make a stainless model. Lets see what happens. I scaled a paper template to fit in the razor crests place.

Building layers. Base plate is just the frame that everything will be welded too. I think this will work. Extending outine by 5mm that will have cuts to be bent. Never tried to build a model before, i hope I can get this to look like I see it in my head.

Got the basic core layer shapes figured out!

Quoted from J85M:

LOVE the way you designed those Star Wars rails with the breaks in the rail, looks phenomenal!!

Thanks. It just hit me when looking at the playfield artwork. It just made sense and the game does not look as cheap with the plastics removed. Here is a completed set on the game.

Just back ordered through the website while waiting on the pro run

I am making another run of them today as I sold out this morning and I am shipping you the set off my game. I will have more ready to ship by Wednesday.

#568 2 years ago

Another run in progress. I got a new steel table and its large enough to lay entire sets on. (Tron). I am going to try magnetic spacing holders to build rails. If this works the rails will need less adjusting after welding.

If your interested in a set for your machine I have 4 sets ready to ship. Just order from Loganpinball.com.
