They're talking about Stern's factory welds on the ramp diverter, not yours. That poor rail died for naught.

Hillarious! Still a good stress test! And this rail was a version 3 that I was not able to convert, so it was in scrap pile anyway. The loop lost too much material grinding and had a kink in middle.

At least I know my “Logan ramps” are good to go!!!! As an FYI I was in the teens on the list and have had the ramps for weeks. Very nice change from the plastic and helps immensely for visibility. I think there was only one time a ball flew of the rails….99.5% stick rate. Great flow.

Ditto!

They need to be treated by a person familiar with stainless steel properties. Short answer is yes, but ask questions to whomever your considering to have them done. The rods are 303 stainless steel. Share that with the painter and see what they say.

I do plan on powdercoating mine when I get mine (I believe I’m in the 60’s). I will update the thread with pics when complete.

Its seems not! And up to order #94 now. The video of me beating a rail to death is on previous page. No welds broke..

And back to ground hog day in garage....

Ground got loose and ruined a rail arch burned. Followed by too much heat on the next rail equals time to quit for the night.
I just need to stone, polish and playtest the 4 on table prior to shipping. I did finish the Gnr today.

I am not on facebook, but my friend is and he sent me this comment about my welds left on Tommys posts. I decided to destroy a rail to prove a point. What is going to be harder on my rails? A small steel ball or this metal post? You decide. I consider this a successfull stress test, but thats me!

They aren’t talking about your rails.

I know that now, but I got an email asking me if the rails would hold up. Thats the only reason I reposted about it and the video.

And from this point forward I am only accepting paypal friends and family. The paypal fees are adding up and I have been paying over $20 for shipping on a bunch of shipments. Its too much of a hit. Or you can pay $228.46 would be regular paypal transaction.

5 sets just need to playtest I will be reaching out to the next group soon. I picked up a bench grinder from
Home depot. Ryobi 59.99, works pretty well for that price better for grinding, the polish wheel is limited as it has no variable speed. It spins too fast and grabs forms in spots.

Any other options to ship a 24x9x9 7.5lb box to Australia? Ups and fedex are insanely priced! I have no faith in usps mail system and I am trying to help out a buyer in Australia that is buying 4 sets as a group buy. But the shipping makes no sense? I am posting this here so he can see the lunacy is not made up.

The USPS prices seem legit to me, though I can understand the hesitancy to use them.

How about DHL? Do they go to The Land Down Under?

#411 2 years ago

Well if they can find 5 or 6 more people who want a set you could put them all in a suitcase and jump a flight to Australia and hand deliver I bet!

#412 2 years ago

Update from location, several hundred plays and they are holding up better than all the factory stern parts on the machine...

Correct, it is almost cheaper to buy an air ticket and fly them in baggage - except most of Australia is in a major lock down atm and you would also need to quarantine in a hotel for 14 days at your expense - that's if the Australian government will even let you in!

I have not been able to even get home because of the hurricane that hit north jersey. I work for a utility and doing double shifts as a result including sleeping at the job just sucks! Trying to go home tonight. I could not even get one block away from my job as every street was flooded. This is the only time I am glad I have a long commute to work. I hope everyone up here is ok. Alot of damage. I heard and felt a house explosion and a transformer blowing up yesterday.

Version 5.3 i think, I lost track. This bracket type is way easier because is has no 90 bends. I had to go around left sling nut, but thats easy. These work great. The ball height is perfect. I stand behind previous brackets, these are just easier to make and put on rails.

I bought different boxes that open longwise. I am able to pack 4 sets for our friends in Australia! Ups global in this box is $212.02 and thats reasonable.. Making more sets for the others on the list tomorrow. Fridgejam got lost in my emails. I had to scramble and get them done for his group buy.

And I think my wife got sick of all my pinball crap about the house. She did this while I was welding sets in garage..

Well after 4 of us from Australia waited patiently in line for our number to come up, the seller of these ramps has just dumped our order, deleted my message thread and blocked me from messaging him back, so my only form of response is now this thread.

Initially myself and 3 other guys banded together to place a group order with the seller shortly after orders opened. We hoped that shipping 4 ramps sets in one shipment to Australian would be much cheaper than individually. In addition to having to pay an international shipping fee, there is also an extra 10% gst fee, combined with a much weaker currency exchange rate - all of this resulted in these ramps being quite expensive for us Aussies.

Despite, the ramp price jumping twice since we placed our order, being informed we now also needed to the full Pay Pal fees (via F&F international the buyer pays), and our position in the cue somehow temporally being passed over - we were all still on board, ready to send our money as soon as the ramps were ready providing the shipping cost was reasonable.

As the seller was insistent that he would ONLY ship the ramps via UPS, which even in a smaller box was still very expensive to Australia, we suggested an alternate option where he would ship our box with 4 ramps via the same UPS method he normally uses to a reliable US shipping forwarding service in the US located in Portland Oregon called Shopmate (owned by Australia post who is incredibly reliable). Once delivered to Shopmate the package would have full tracking and insurance - and if anything did go wrong, it would totally be on us (not the seller) which I pointed out to them. All that was needed was a revised UPS shipping cost to ship the package to Portland. Given that most of the sellers other ramp orders have shipped inside the US exactly this same way, I don’t think our request to ship our order this way was unreasonable.

While this may be good news for some of you on the waiting list who are now 4 spots closer, I think choosing to just cancel our order completely and block any communication about this decision is incredibly poor form!

One and only reply to this.

We could not agree to shipping terms. The prospect of a paypal dispute and 16 hours of labor lost are too much of a risk. This order involved multiple people (4) each paying for one shipment being handled by (2) different shippers across the globe. They could not accept or understand my concerns. As a result I gave up. Nothing more. I said this in multiple messages and I was told “we are ok if it gets lost” in shipping. I had ups for $200 to Austalia and it would have been shipped out. They still insisted on other shipper being involved? That is why I gave up. No one was listening.

I will not reply to anything further concerning this. Pinside turns into a mess with this crap. You said your side, now I said mine. Lets leave it there.

I just want to say I appreciate that you playtest things. I too make custom items for people, and I know it can be easy to skip that stage, and heck, I will admit that I do that way too often. Sometimes that is the hardest part of the job as you just want to ship it out and be done with it. Also, I think you are flying through these. I can't believe you are at #45 already!

And my final response - again posted here because you have BLOCKED me from messaging you.

After enquiring about a cheaper shipping option we DID agreed to ship via your preferred UPS shipping service - sent to a US address the exact same way you are sending all of the other orders. It made absolutely no difference to you that we were using an international mail forwarding service to help reduce the international shipping cost dramatically. Any risks using this service were totally on us.

Even if we wanted to attempt to mount a Pay Pal dispute / claim we could not because under the terms of Pay Pal Friends & Family payments you can’t - there is zero buyer protection paying via this method!

After waiting patiently for months to then just cancel our order, delete my messages and ban me from messaging you says a lot about how you are running your operation. Good luck to anybody else who asks one too many questions or has any sort of problem!

And playtesting tonight I saw potential for further madness.. ramps are segmented.. I am going to try some funky stuff this weekend!
