Quoted from ForceFlow:Nope, although a search does reveal a gold dome has popped up a couple times.

Mostly just guesses as to what it was for.R2 always had an aluminum finish on the dome in the films.
Personally, I don't think the gold dome adds value since it isn't correct at all for the character. It looks like the chrome dome is available, though: https://www.pinball.center/en/shop/pinball-modding/pinball-specific/9744/r2d2-chrome-for-star-wars-data-east
Here's a thread for the original action figure where there was an example of a gold dome, and they speculate on 3 possible scenarios: that the chrome finish is worn off, or the gold was a discoloration of the varnish, or the chrome finish was simply never applied for whatever reason.
https://forum.rebelscum.com/threads/gold-dome-r2.1030150/Pre-covid, I was seeing these top out at about $4600 fully restored and loaded with mods and a pinsound board. But, prices are certainly up on a lot of titles right now.
Having sold one pre-covid, I think I got 3500 out of it for a decent example. The notion a nice one has almost doubled seems dubious.
