Hasn't Rowling publicly stated that she refuses to license Harry Potter for pinball and arcade use, because she doesn't want to see the title in pubs? She owns the merchandising and license rights of the property, and has veto on movie rights use. And she has the $$$ to refuse anything she wants, forever.

I would like to see Star Wars go to JJP, for widebody and LCD purposes, but Stern and Disney are tight.

Apparently she liked Jack more than Gary.

Regardless, it's a matter of public record now that the next JJP title is an original one, so who knows if we'll ever see Harry Potter.

This is a machine I would buy if it came out. But I will never ride the pre order train ever again. I can't believe how many people can put up 8500 with no worries of the company ever going under. If it did you would all be screwed. Now I do believe jack is for real and has the best of intentions. But there are a lot of things that can happen.

    #104 10 years ago

Yup in too for a Star Wars pin

    #105 10 years ago

This would actually make me go down the NIB trail

    #107 10 years ago
    Quoted from Aurich:

Luckily for you that's no longer the case.

Actually, I'm not even remotely interested in buying anything from JJP. Unless of course, they strike a deal for Elvira #3.

nooooo but someone on pinside said the next machine was HP so it must be true!

    #109 10 years ago

If there is a third game, we're talking 2016?

    #110 10 years ago

I'm in with Harry potter or Iron maiden by JJP but not the other company

    #111 10 years ago

    Won't be Harry potter...

    #112 10 years ago

I would not be surprised if the 3rd JJP is an unlicensed game such as Haunted House, and then the 4th was Harry Potter or Willy Wonka.
They have to get the WOZ games built before any of this even starts to matter.

    #113 10 years ago

I think you guys are getting way ahead of yourselves. I guess it's fun to speculate, but talking about a third or fourth title release is ridiculous.

Especially since we have not seen a completed playfield for hobbit yet either.

There's that and the fact that people are still waiting for their WOZ , for a couple of years now.

    #116 10 years ago

You do realize that machine refers to the 1890's and not the 1990's where "gay" has entirely different meanings, correct?

Greata game; both left and right ball saving gates and a post between the flippers. Plus the coolest swinging target ever if the original "100" plastic is intact.

When did he start asking for hobbit money and there's not a hint of a whitewood?

Don't daydream about laying on the beach when you are three miles away in the ocean barely able to keep your head above water.

I agree completely that WOZ is a completely insipid theme for a pinball machine. I HATE the theme. HATE. But I LOVE the machine more than I hate the theme. I just killed the Wicked Witch for the first time yesterday, got Rescue Multiball, Wicked Witch Multiball, Munchkin Multiball and Emerald City Multiball in the same game. There is SO much to do, SO much going on in this pin, that the theme is irrelevant. The pin is simply incredible. Now, we all know that JJP isn't going to make a swearing, masculine-oriented, belching, farting and fucking pin featuring large tits, gambling and drug use. Ted was a license in which Jack would have no interest. So I can see precisely why JK Rowling would give Jack an audience after dismissing Stern out-of-hand.

    #119 10 years ago

No belching, farting, f#*king or large tits??? I'm out...

Anyone check the Facebook page today?

Yes. Didn't see any announcement though.

    #123 10 years ago

Didnt we read a couple of weeks ago JJP #3 is an original theme with pat lawlor as the designer?

    #124 10 years ago
    Quoted from Zdoor:

Can't you and hemi just mod all of that in later?

    #125 10 years ago

I'm hoping for JJP #3 to be an unlicensed haunted house theme. Or Disney's Haunted Mansion.

It is absolutely incredible when you start hitting all of the above along with Fireball Frenzy and the Crystal ball modes……

Can you imagine what a great theme would do for JJP!

He's got to somehow get over the G rated mantra and mix in a kick ass music pin, in all its stereo and Lcd glory!

Heading out to the garage man cave to hit Woz and Ac/dc while watching the playoffs and throwing down some cold and chilly's……….does it get any better than that!

    #127 10 years ago

This is where the unlicensed theme (and the switch from Harry Potter) info is coming from:

    http://www.npr.org/2013/12/22/256328172/in-the-world-of-pinball-an-underdog-takes-on-the-giant

With Jersey Jack's second game due out in the spring, Guarnieri says a third machine, with an all-original design and story, is already in production.

    Quoted from winslow:

JJP # 3 is Harry Potter. The deal is done.
I'd like to see JJP do Star Wars too. But it would have to be #4.

That would really hurt my pocket book since I would have to have both

    #129 10 years ago

Just beat the Wicked Witch and beat my Grand Champion score!

    Awesome fun

    #130 10 years ago

I would be all over Star Wars if JJP did it, I would probably pass if it was released by Stern unless they really did something that was a game changer not the same old Stern pinball.

    Joe(acejedi)

    #131 10 years ago

If you count Stern as the continuation of Data East and Sega (like I do) then all I can say is that I hope they top their previous efforts.

    #132 10 years ago

Like others have stated with Stern and Disney's past relationship, Stern will likley get the license. I'm glad as the pin will be done on time (take less the 3 years to finish) and probably have a model of the pin to buy under 6 k. Bring it on I say!

    #133 10 years ago

I would buy SW if JJP did it. I also would not assume the title being a shoe in for Stern because of the past relationship with Disney. My guess is Disney would bid that out just like anything else. It is just there was no one else to bid with in the past.

For example; If the new Stern Star Trek was instead themed as Star Wars, it would be getting a ton more buzz and units sold.

Maybe Stern will re-release Star Trek with a Death Star in place of the Vengeance and some new artwork.

    Quoted from DCFAN:

I spoke with someone that visited a casino in Maryland last week and they said that there are now slot machines of the original Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory movie. To me that means that the license is likely obtainable for pinball. There could be a lot of cool toys and the theme would appeal to all age groups.

IMO, this relates to pinball licenses:

With Disney as parent firm, what and who they negotiate with will depend upon reputation.

This provides JJP with a "family friendly" advantage when you take into account Jack's previously stated preference for wholesome themes.

    #138 10 years ago

I am actually hoping for a Stern Ritchie/Lyman Star wars at Christmas 2015 with all the bugs worked out of their new Operating system And LCD !!

    #139 10 years ago

Jersey Jack's next title will be Jersey Shore. Hair gel in the goodie bag.

    #140 10 years ago

More Harry Potter world books are coming, so HP is a viable theme. I would love it, but they MUST!!!! Get the music rights or forget it.

    #141 10 years ago

WOZ has proved one thing to me, no matter how much I dislike a theme, the JJP team is able to use it to produce a great game! Would be great if they get SW, that would be a theme I would like, but it realy doesn't matter to me anymore.

    #142 10 years ago

Maybe it won't be #3 but HP is definitely in JJP's future. Like I said - the deal is done.

We shall see. I bet you are wrong. They already have a great business relationship, that counts!

I wonder how much vendors do have to pay for the rights?
If you produce say a toy horse drawn wagon "as seen in Wizard Of Oz" is it the same % as a Jersey Jack Pinball machine or do they pay a giant fee for the intellectual property?

    #147 10 years ago

My understanding of licensing can be either a percentage of gross/net sales or a bulk fee up front. My guess is here that JJP would have had to pay a good chunk of money up front and tie those costs into the cost of the game.

Using that same logic, wouldn't it have been a shoe-in for Stern to get the Hobbit licensing? Especially since Stern did LOTR? To me it comes down to money for this stuff. The one that is willing to pay, gets it. I wish relationships meant more, but money seems to trump that these days

Not really since the production company/owners of the rights to the LOTR and the Hobbit are different. MGM joined New Line Cinema on the hobbit and was not on LOTR. Additionally that was one pin with New Line Cinema, with the Disney relationship they have done several pins successfully.

And in interviews employees complained that Disney was hard to work with on every one. Doesn't sound like it's all roses to me over the years.
