If you would have told me this morning that Stern was going to announce a VE today I would have thought you were joking....if you told me it was Star Trek I would have thought you were nuts!

Quoted from RobT:This is the dumbest type of post that I have seen made repeatedly on Pinside for years.
You can say the same damn thing about every single thread in the history of Pinside that discusses a new title or a VE.
Apparently people can only post positive opinions about any new title or VE or rerun. No "complaining" allowed!
Anyone who made a post questioning this move by Stern, or who otherwise are "complaining" about it should just go back and delete their posts (and they should probably be ejected from the thread too)!
This VE takes no effort for stern to make.
It doesn't hog resources from any other product.
It's the exact same thing that came out 4 years ago.
There's literally nothing new about this. Yet we have a litany of new complaints.
"I don't like that Stern re-released Star Trek, and I'm gonna bitch about it."
THAT is dumb. You might as well be complaining about the fact that they are bringing back Crystal Pespi.
Quoted from JY64:Any Vault with a DMD is a waste of time and money
We get it. Maybe if you say this one more time, in one more thread someone will listen or care.
Quoted from ZMeny:Take the time to do it right, it wouldn’t take much. Keep mechanics and software. Add color display and change the art a bit.
That would just piss off the current ownership base. They need to be careful when doing these “vault” editions. They should follow the same path as AC/DC and IM vault editions
Quoted from colonel_caverne:Regular or vault, ST is boring with the same gameplay.
Oh come on man. Star Trek is a good game. The theme and music are iconic. The new reboot of the cast (and movies) are done well. It is one of the Stern games I would like to own one day.
However, I would like for them to do something different to it when vaulting it. New cab art and translight would be nice with different trim. Something. Maybe on the premium vault do a vengeance edition with gloss black trim.
Quoted from Goronic:LOL. Folks are lighting up their FB post with TRON VE requests. My guess is that it is one of the 3 following possibilities:
1. TRON VE is in the works/plans for next year.
2. They want to do the TRON VE but can't secure the licensing.
3. They don't want to make it - even though it seems to have strong interest.
I just lit up there Facebook page bitching where is the Tron VE with LCD, and that this is is another production run, not a VE
Flood Sterns Facebook!!!!
When did CrazyLevi become the voice of reason on pinside?
Why in the world are some of you upset about another run of ST. Only the distro's that charge retail have had any left for close to a year. Obviously stern got enough requests from distros to feel there is enough demand for another run. So the license is reupped and more ST will be available. Isn't that great for anyone still wanting one? Does it affect anyone that doesn't want one in anyway? Maybe it will get that long awaited code update like ACDC did when the vault shipped. More games available is a great thing. Whining and complaining because it wasn't what you wanted is silly.
This is great for everyone except existing owners that wanted the price to go up. Look at what happened to AC/DC. Now lots are available (both old style and new) at (more) reasonable prices.
Quoted from CrazyLevi:That makes no sense.
ALL vaults have been DMD games and they’ve cost little time and made plenty of money.
I’d pinside ran Stern they’d be tits up in a month.
They have only made LCD for 18 months you can't remake what is still being made you can update the old
Quoted from Tuna_Delight:Ah, but this will be no ordinary vault edition. This will be ... <cue trumpets and timpani drums> ... TRON VE!
Maybe they’ll make TRON a DP (Daft Punk) edition. Extra music and Daft Punk artwork.
DP has another more painful definition as well.

I'm somewhat interested in saving for this. I have this game in my top 3 wanted, so might have to see if I can save enough to get a nib. More in the pipeline can't hurt my chances on the secondary market later so this is fine.
Quoted from JY64:They have only made LCD for 18 months you can't remake what is still being made you can update the old
You can't do that cheaply or quickly.
I'm sure Stern has learned their lesson from Spider Man VE.
as said, just a re-run, not a "vault"... :/
pity in a way, as there were some possibilities to get a single/real vault :
a pro basis, with :
- the metal ramps
- the kicker back at left outlane
- the mecanism on the left side kicker
and/or nice idea (read above) about having a re-theme with the original start trek...
of course, not to forget a final code (just need to correct the remaining few bugs)
I don't think Stern just makes a bunch of pins, inventories them and hope people will buy them. My understanding is their current manufacturing model is much more of a build for demand approach. If they are doing another run of ST then it is because they have heard from their distributors that there is demand and the distributors are going to (or have already committed) to buying the majority of the run. Might not make much sense to Pinside, but I'd bet it makes sense to Stern.
I do agree calling it a VE is confusing, thought the same thing with AC/DC. Should have to be out of production for awhile and come back with some significant art or technical changes. Otherwise it is just another run. Maybe there are some changes they haven't announced yet?
Anyone who wants a st premium or pro can easily get one. Acdc premiums and iron Man originals and I think maybe sm were drying up and prices were rising. For st, prices have been trending down and games sit if pricing is too high (pros above 4500, premiums above 6500, even with nice mods). Tron fits in with iron Man and acdc so this move, if true, is a bit surprising to me.
Personally, I have no interest in a pro vault edition if pricing is in line with current production pros (i.e., $5700) or premiums ($6700+)
Quoted from CrazyLevi:You can't do that cheaply or quickly.

I own a ST and even I would buy a new game with lots of movie clips added to the game
Quoted from John_I:Sorry, but I owned and loved STTNG for nine years. It is a fantastic game, but I like ST Premium/LE better. The shots are tighter and it plays like butter.
Agree. Sttng has the best theme integration of any pin. Stern Star trek is more fun to play, especially the adrenaline factor.
Quoted from JY64:I own a ST and even I would buy a new game with lots of movie clips added to the game
Great. I own a Stern Stars, and I'd probably buy a new version with a DMD. I doubt this would be worth Stern's time, however.
The point is these vaults fill in gaps and keep the production line moving. That's their purpose. That's how it started with Iron Man and AC/DC, which had no significant changes. Spider Man VE is the outlier, the ONLY radically different vault. And I hardly see that game anywhere. I doubt it was worth the trouble it took for them to produce the new art, dots, and sound.
They are re-releasing Star Trek as is because they believe they'll sell some. That's really it. It's a smart move and didn't require a team of people and months of work to "upgrade" it to LCD.
There's a reason Stern is #1.

I understand your point about SM VE and the work that went into that - so maybe they thought it was too much to do an LCD with movie clips for TRON. However, with TRON I think it would be worth the time for Stern to do it.
At any rate, if Stern just wanted to keep the line moving they could renew the license (which may be the issue). And just do another run of TRON with the new cabs, updated decals and that's it. That alone would sell well. Add the major upgrades, like an LCD, and it will be a huge VE hit.

You could be right about Tron - that's a lot different than ST.
huge demand for that title.

I guess I missed the posts that complained about this title "hogging resources from another product" or that it takes "effort for Stern to make" it.
Most of the posts that I've read on the subject are questioning why this would be released as a "vault edition" and whether there is actually enough demand to do so. Is that really "complaining" in your mind? To me it is called pinball related discussion, which is what I thought this site was for.
I own a ST Pro and this doesn't bug me at all. It's a little surprising because I'm pretty sure you can still find these new? If the pricing is "current" pricing then I am really surprised.
Now a Tron VE... I'd probably be in for one of them depending on pricing. That's the only previously released Stern I really want.

I called around several times looking for a NIB premium, couldn't find one except for automated. They said they had 2 left (this was many months ago). They jacked up the price quite a bit and told me on the phone the price was so high because they were out of production. Now that they will be back in production I will go with a different distributor.

I said gameplay is boring. Didn’t say anything else. I agree theme, music, light show are great. Flow is really great too. I was very frustrated with the gameplay that is boring in the way it is coded

Many ST are for sale here and very few are wanted...I don’t bother Stern makes a rerun or vault for those who want one...but there are already some for sale here, cheaper than nib

I'm thinking this isn't really for "us." People forget there's a huge audience of home/op buyers for NIB games. Could be Stern's data says they want this re-run.

By many do you mean a couple of pros and 1 premium? It's strange that used games are cheaper then NIB games, what an odd thing.......
ST is rumored to be stern biggest selling game ever. People like it, it does well on route, it holds up well, it's fun to play, it has a lot of code even if some people do not like it, it's a popular theme. What more do people want?

They want them to not re-release a popular, profitable title apparently. Don't understand why.
Star Trek is a prime example of how much the sound and light show affect theme integration. For some reason, I really feel like I'm battling klingons in klingon multiball even though I'm just shooting the same ramps I've been shooting the whole game.
I called around for a Star Trek NIB a while ago and got quoted low 6K figures. At that point I felt stupid for paying more for an older title and passed (also, I knew I'd take a big hit if I ever sold it). I probably would have purchased it for the 5.6k that new pins seem to be going for now. I must not have been the only one.

If this is possibly aimed at operators, Why wouldnt an operator just buy a game in the secondary market? Maybe for $1000 less than nib. Plenty of really nice huo games out there.

How many operators do you know?
Most of them don't want to deal with that stuff as far as I can tell. They like putting brand new games on route and they don't like dealing with "us." For the most part. They don't want high-maintenance, whether it comes to people or equipment.
Quoted from CrazyLevi:THAT is dumb. You might as well be complaining about the fact that they are bringing back Crystal Pespi.
It's a pinball community.. and this is what's happening this week in pinball. It's going to have people discussing it... duh
Quoted from flynnibus:It's a pinball community.. and this is what's happening this week in pinball. It's going to have people discussing it... duh
Yeah I get it.
There's just very little to discuss here, which is my point. Let's move on, at least as far as this part of it goes.

None, that’s why I asked.
It's a fun game. Most people like it. This will mean more are available, ultimately making them cheaper. How is this bad in any way? This thread is very strange.
Quoted from porkcarrot:It's a fun game. Most people like it. This will mean more are available, ultimately making them cheaper. How is this bad in any way? This thread is very strange.
It's not bad, I think people we're just hoping Tron would be the next vault.

That’s fine, but don’t call it a VE. It’s not a VE. It’s another run of the same game. Just make more and say more STs available. I think everyone agrees that there is no problem with that.

Why does anyone care about this? It was a retired game, they reupped the license and brought it back. Not really any different then IMVE or ACDCVE. Who cares what they call it?

IMVE and ACDCVE both had improvements/modifications to the original game...this is another run of the exact same game. It’s all nomenclature for sure, but hopefully future “VE”s add some actual improvements to existing games.
+1 on a Tron VE. And I don't really even care if it's a DMD vs LCD. I just want an opportunity to buy one without paying ridiculous prices on used. I also agree there is some sort of hold up with releasing a Tron VE as it's clear the demand is extensive and thus sales/revenue will be plentiful.

Because what you just said is not an accurate statement.

Hey, RobT is back! Miss the TWD avatar!

Say that again if Tron gets done.
(Woops) skipped ahead. Should have known I'd get beat to this comment.
