Edited: Added some pics.

I have a TNG machine I've had for a decade. Had a kid and didn't play it for a few years. Batteries leaked on CPU board. Put a new WPC89 CPU/MPU Board in it and it played great until it started smoking and I unplugged it. Now my wife wants the space and I have to get rid of it pretty quickly.

Thoughts on selling as-is or getting it repaired first? Playfield's in great shape. Have not been in the pinball market for a long time, so any advice would be helpful. Want to sell it quickly, but don't want to give it away. How's the market for these?

The market is good. You might add your location and pictures. Playfield and cabinet condition are really important. Buyers will want to see pictures. Electronics are fixable.

IMHO In good shape with everything working ... $3000 to $5000 depending on location and condition. Take $500 off for unknown smoking electronics. Might be worth fixing if you can narrow it down.

Good luck.

There are a lot of good people on pinside. Post your location and you might find someone who will be willing to come by and inspect your machine for you. There's a market for your machine -even if it isn't working.

Thanks. Added location: Cary, NC. If anyone is close by and could take a look that would be great!

good luck and welcome to Pinside! Also when the game does leave, i hope you have a couple burly friends to help out. that is one heavy pin!

2500 as is would move it quickly

I would fix it, clean it up nice, post photos and ask for top dollar if the playfield and cabinet are in nice shape. Having it in your house for 10+ years, it must look mint. It's worth the effort, STTNG is a top 10 pin and highly desirable.

I know someone who is looking, I'll send you a PM and pass your info along to him.

Yeah, I remember removing the steps in the garage and using a forklift to get it in the house.

Here are some interior pics. I found what got burned...a connector that says "flasher/coil power". Added a pic. Any clue what it would take to fix this? I hope not a new board. Also, there's a pic of the new CPU board.

Board should be savable. You'll need to de-solder those pins and solder in new ones, and fix any broken traces or melted components (diodes, caps, resistors, etc,.) If you can't do board work, either send it out for repair or just minus the cost of repair from asking price.

Yeah, no shit it would.

I'd say 3000 is a better "move it quickly" price. Any more than that and it'll have to be fully working and sounds like the OP doesn't really want to deal with it.

$300 for a rottendog driver board if that's what it needs. Game is worth $4k easy working...I would say $3-$3500 if you are doing nothing to it. Depends how fast you want it gone.

I moved mine in house and down a flight of stairs by myself

Just sold it for 3K. Thanks everyone!

Thanks for returning to let us know the sale price.

Good Deal!
Only if I were closer.

Wow, someone got a smoking deal! (yes, pun intended)

#18 8 years ago

Well, he said he's going to open up a retro arcade (is there any other kind?), so it's going to a good cause. I'll have to negotiate some freeplay when he comes back for the Championship Sprint cabinet.

Glad to see you guys worked out a deal! I'll hopefully be playing it soon
