Hello everyone, this is my first time posting on Pinside. I wanted to try my hand at a mod and my husband suggested modding the Borg ship on his Star Trek: The Next Generation game since he had a spare. Here are photos and the steps I took (captions are above the photos explaining each step). All in all the mod took me about 6-8 hours over the course of three days.

Here is the reference photo I used when working on this mod.

We are still in the process of cleaning up the game but I'm hoping to have some pics of it in the machine within the next few weeks! I'll absolutely post them!

if you want some neat burn marks, go get some of the pop it fireworks and toss them at the model, its really effective and fun at the same time

That sounds like a blast! (No pun intended ) I haven't even touched those little pop it things since I was a kid.

Hmm that ship looks Familiar.

The game was in pretty rough shape, but it has come a long way.

After finishing my first Star Trek: The Next Generation mod, I had another Pinsider contact me asking me to paint his ship and cannons. He gave me creative freedom with the cannons so I went with some red accents and then made them look weathered/worn. I'm happy with the results and I hope you all enjoy the pics. I look forward to seeing how they look in his machine and to doing more mods in the future.

Thank you so very much! My husband should have his borg ship installed within the next few weeks (we're taking our time) so I'll definitely post pics once it's in!

So this is going to sound a little crazy (maybe not) but I actually settled on using an artists pencil. I tried several methods including brush, pen, fine line permanent markers, and fine tip markers. Nothing seemed to be consistent or have the right look. However, it turned out my artist pencils had a sharp enough tip and just enough shine to work. Plus I seal the whole thing twice when I'm done with a matte finishing spray. It doesn't rub off after that and set nicely and I was able to hold on to those fine details with consistent lines. (The fine tip markers were inconsistent and the pens were just too dark).

Artist pencil, what is that, just a mechanical pencil?

I want to try to do this myself, would it be possible to list all the materials you used; brands, colors, types?

Yours looks really cool. Wish I would have went with a grey as well. I just finished painting my brothers Borg ship. Not even close to show accurate, but still turned out kinda cool.

If you want to reapply a new colour you could simply tape off the areas you don’t want to alter and apply a new top colour it would likely require some additional line work though, but I think yours looks great really like those green infills I bet those look awesome lit up.
