Guys figure I would start this topic just to gather everyone's thoughts now that the LE is out there.

I'm not feeling the LE off video but reserving my final judgement until I play one. Pro seems like a great machine and for the cost difference, I lean that way if/when I buy right now. I'll be passing on NIB likely and grabbing one later

#3 10 years ago

I will vote on this when I receive my STLE hopefully sometime last this week or next, I want to give a non-biased option for me it is all about gameplay, cost has no relevance to me when I rate machines. It the game better or not, not is it 1K, 2K, 3K better, I don't make my decisions on best bang for your buck or best pound for pound machine, thou that would be a great forum topic, lol...

Pro is probably the way to go unless you are a die hard Trekkie. This coming from a guy that still firmly believes the XMLE is far superior to the Pro, so, I'm a little bipolar.

If you have the coin go with the best the LE because the modding market will never come out with a mod for the way the playfield is led'd and the cab side strobbing led's on the LE and there might be other things on the LE that can only be done at the factory but I don't know what they are. I didn't have the money for the LE, if I had I would have gotten one so I have to be happy with my Pro. Which is not a bad thing of course. It's a great game no matter which one you buy.

Best bang for your buck is the Pro in my opinion but I want an LE/Premium.
Same as ACDC, I find myself more than willing to pay an extra 30-40% for 15-20% more game.

extra bling and artwork package on LE is what I went with.
Not a big fan of the backglass on the standard or premium [red armor is fugly]. LE is more STAR TREK/enterprise and less about the characters in the film. yeah, they are on there but in a minimalist way.
I dig everything about the LE.

Mine is pro lové LE but to expensif

LE for me, arriving next week.

I got a chance to play the LE and the Pro in the same room, at Marvins

Opinions are going to vary, but is it not more of a 75% mark up? you are not really getting any more game, just more bling, and a lot of bling actually.

My thoughts if you should go LE or go Pro--- is this... If you consider yourself “Lord of the Bling”, and or have Hemi’s number on speed dial, and or you own every Mod for AC/DC and or TZ--- Then the LE is without a doubt right for you.
If you are not, then their is probably better things you can do with the additional $3000 plus, even hire Hemi out to mod your Pro out like you want and still have cash left to burn.

Again, this is just MY opinion, but I felt that the LE had features that took away from the game:

1. RGB inserts have to be toned down--- They are blinding-- not even a joke, first time I have complained about lights hurting my eyes. Hopefully their will be an adjustment.
The LED inserts on the Pro, are perfect, bright but not blinding

2. Asteroids in the LE block view points, I like seeing the ramps etc, they are a waste and kind of ugly; you could make your own if needed

3. VUK on the LE, (shire in LOTR) , personally I like the kick back in the Pro better, puts the ball back into play and you have to gain control over the ball back.

4. Left outlane kickback-- This would of been fantastic if Steve would of made this player controlled with another flipper button... (Defender). The ball times on the Pro are pretty long already, probably the longest in any Stern I can think of. If you are the type that sets your games up to 5 ball play, and still struggles, then this maybe a feature you want.

5. The motion lights on the Warp Ramp LE-- I like this, nice touch; hopefully this can also be controlled, it only lasts for a second, it would be nice to slow it down, its easy to miss and not notice.
These motion sensing LED strips are a readily available mod, you can do this to your Pro warp ramp; I would not be surprised if people add this on their other clear ramps.

6. StarField projector-- I am not going to even go to touch this. Probably because I grew up in the 70's and have been to a few roller skating rinks in my day, I just want to hear Disco Duck, while this mode is being played; or even more insult to injury... The Star Wars Disco version during this mode... now your talking

Cabinet lights on the armor, etc are a really nice touch. Still, not something I would pay that kind of cash for. If I really had to have it, I would probably just try to have it done myself and save some cash. Nothing not to like about the cabinet lights on the LE, except your paying for it.

I didnt notice anything really major with the Vengeance Ship, or the center back of the playfield that really stood out to me; if there is a super difference, I am sure you will not hesitate to let me know

I almost expect that the Mod Creators are really going to throw down the gauntlet on this game- it will be interesting to see what Hemi and others come up with.

That is just My two cents-- take that and another $7599.98 and I am sure you can have your very own LE or @1.75ish Pros of your own.

Will the premium have the lighted apron?

#12 10 years ago

pro all the way, LE is all about blings and a kickback, gameplay is exactly the same.
i like the fact that i can choose what i want on my machine and the pro is perfect for that.
$3000 ($4000 more here) for leds and lights is a lot.

#13 10 years ago

Pro is certainly the best bang for the buck. The LE looks way better though. If you want to play the machine go Pro since there is no gameplay difference on the LE. If you want it to be a nice piece of art and have an extra 3k to blow go LE for sure.

no doubt, the LE is very nice.
maybe i'm one of the few who doesn't like those blue trims.

Which one what?

#16 10 years ago

I agree that the pro offers by far the most pin for the money. I might well get one once there is an alternate translite and a color DMD option (and more or less completed code). I am not a fan of cast pics on translites and don't like the red DMD. Once these options become available, I am going to have to think seriously about selling one of my other pins.

Has anyone noticed the glitch in software 1.3 where when you have a ball in the shooter lane ready to start another ball, if you hit one of the flippers you get 560 points? If you hit both flippers you get over 1000 points each time you hit the flippers before the ball is even out?

oooh, i will check that.
also, the button on the lockdown bar is not always on when it's time to punch it/when there is a ball in the shooter lane.
and the captain's chair insert is never on (knew about this one) but working on the LE, does work in the attraction mode, maybe in the next update/karl urban pack.

You likely have a switch activating from the vibration of the flippers. Test in switch matrix.

I always find the pro vs premium vs LE debate kind of funny. Seems like a lot of people need justification for their purchase. It doesn't matter what model you get as long as you like it.

Certainly true. I greatly prefer the look of the LE but can't justify spending that much on it. If I could, that's the route I'd take. The alternative is to make a couple of cosmetic changes to the pro, which is probably what I will do eventually. (I have an alt. translite and color DMD in my STTNG, and they are a significant improvement, IMHO.) As they say, I can afford to wait.

ok thanks. I'll try to figure out which one it is.

You certainly can't go wrong with the pro and you can always make cosmetic changes to it to make it feel like a LE.

Yes the pinball Refinery can bling out a Pro like no other! A Refinery Pro is the next best thing to an LE.

#25 10 years ago

I got to play both at SPF and the LE is by far a better looking pin. Not sure they played much different, but the LE was just more fun. I can't explain why, just had a better time on it. Judging by the line I think most people found it more appealing as well.

#26 10 years ago

I purchased the LE only for the light show.

Pro best bang for buck. For about 1100 more you can get a Pro Metallica and ST for the price of an LE.

#27 10 years ago

I picked the LE because I liked the look of the pin better, primarily because the LE had a backglass with the Enterprise rather than a translite with the actors.

However, I can't imagine getting an LE version of any other theme, as I don't think it would matter to me enough.
So STLE for me, but for any future Stern pins, it will be the Pro unless the LE adds enough substance with the bling.
