There are a couple of factors in the ramps breaking. One is UV light. A pin that is exposed to day light will have more issues with time in terms of the plastic parts getting brittle. This doesn't happen in weeks however... more like months... and the number of games played doesn't matter. The other factor is just bad luck in getting airballs hitting the edge of the plastic where it is the weakest.
The freddy's protectors look good but pricey. I'm playing around with some 1/2 strips of thin stainless but may end-up going with the Freddy's solution. Also waiting for someone in the US (Cliffys?) to come-up with a solution.
My Pro has over 500 games, stock set-up and nothing wrong with the ramps. (It's in a basement.)
