I called stern last week for mine doing the same problem they (stern) want you to bend the finger on the small coil that touches the drop target no washers needed per stern what I did was grab the whole drop target assy. from the bottom and bend it back to the rear of cab it will move the top side of the target to the front of the pin not sure if this is the fix but it work for me
