I have a Star Trek Pro by Stern made in 2013. Sometimes the drop target for the Vengeance ship will fall back down when it pops up to reset. Anyone else experience the same problem? If so how did you fix it. ( stronger spring?)

This has been covered in the Star Trek thread. Unfortunately its a big thread and not indexed so you'll need to dig.

I was going to say the little plastic ledge that the target rests on to keep it up must have broken but since you mention that it only does this some of the time then that can't be the issue. If it's related to the spring, a stronger spring creating more tension will only make it worse.

I did check the little plastic ledge and it's ok.
It's not really much of a ledge to rest on, is there another adjustment somewhere?

If it's not the drop target activating the vengence ship, then what else could do this causing it to score and the ship rocking around at the beginning of a game or switching to next player and there are no balls on the playfield?

Most likely, you need thin washers behind that ledge. Read up here:

Just got off the phone with a tech. at Stern. He said the use of 2 thin washers was a good idea and then went on to suggest using a piece of paper etc. to shim the plastic ledge. Just being careful to observe the clearance so target operates and drops.

Installed the washers this morning. Seems to be working fine. Overall the repair was easy and was a learning experience with the research and physical aspects of the problem.

Be warned that washers with no shim will crack that ledge quickly...too much stress.

Ironically, I reinstalled the cracked and broken ledge with washers while waiting for a new one and it's worked perfectly ever since...that was a year ago.

Me too. The broken ledge approach is definitely the way to go.

I was wondering about that so with your advice I shimed it by using two pieces of insulator paper used between contacts. Thanks for the advice!

BEFORE you start taking it apart - simply check the bolt/screw at the bottom of the drop target assembly, it can come loose (as happened with mine) tighten it up - and it's fixed. I think people often mistake this for the well documented 'broken black plastic ledge' issue. Check the screw, it worked for me!
