I started another topic. Couldn't figure how to link the two. It's a poll. Thanks

Before I bought the pin. In the movie. I heard "my name is khan"
After buying the pin. In th pin. I heard "my name is khan"

Then I read the debate between "khan" and "Kai"

Now I hear "Kai" in the pin and in the movie

All I can think of is, why is there so much unused sound in the game? If you browse the sounds in the game rom, there are dozens of sound bits that aren't used. Some are so-so, but there's so many that are pretty good - and you NEVER hear them in the game.

Very true Rob, I agree. I went thru the menu as well. Good point.

I think they have a huge amount of sound right now. They probably just loaded the rom up but had to make some editorial decisions. Kind of like the film that ends up on the cutting room floor during post-production of a movie.

As for the Khan controversy, I hear Khan but admit that the clip was truncated a bit which is probably why some hear Kai.

Exactly...Nokoro.

There's some good clips at 120 which could be used for ball drain callouts..

Fair enough. I've heard a few ball drain callouts in the game. They're rare but funny.

Me too, I've heard some goofy lines as well.

Still contemplating the shaker motor, but how tech savy do you have to be?

To install the shaker motor? The Cointaker Red Tremor is slightly easier than the Stern model.
You install 4 screws into the base of your cabinet (which should already have the nuts preinstalled, but the kits include these just in case). Look under the front left of the cabinet just to the left of where the coin box sits and you will see the preinstalled nuts.
Then you put 4 screws into the board that comes with it into the side of the cabinet. Look right next to the tilt mech and you will see 4 holes predrilled out.
Now just plug in the 2 connectors. One runs to the back of the cabinet. There is a single (I think brown wire) in the pile of wires right under the upper playfield. It plugs in there.
Then the other connector plugs into the connector that is sitting right there at the coin door.
That's it. Now go into the menu and select shaker motor on or off (or it might be shaker motor min or max use, I don't recall).

The Stern model has one extra connector that plugs into the motherboard.
Either model, believe me, they are easy to install.

Ok. I will try it. I'll get one and let you know how it goes.

You have plenty of support here on this forum if you have any issues, but I am sure you wont. PM me even if you need help.

I am quite the opposite of mechanically inclined, and I thought installing the shaker motor (I bought the Stern version) was quite straightforward. The issue I had a little difficulty with was the intensity of the rattle the motor caused. It look a lot of fine tuning, and kind of drove me crazy for a week, but I eventually got it dialed in. I had to tighten a threaded rod at the top to lessen the intensity; I had to add duct tape to the glass over the playfield to stop that from rattling, and I had to oil the shaft of the shaker to stop a squeak. I still have to occasionally oil. Luckily, there was plenty of support for me (and a bunch of existing threads) on pinside to help.

All said, I can't imagine the game without it. Star Trek was a pin made to have a shaker. It completely enhances the experience of shooting the shots, getting combos, etc. It works perfectly with the flow of the game. You won't be sorry.

#117 8 years ago

Its easy to install. Get the Cointaker one. Its awesome! If you could make me pick only one mod to put on a star trek it would be the Cointaker Shaker motor. As said above this game is made for it!

#118 8 years ago

Alright, thanks again. Will do!

Installed the shaker in 10 mins zero adjustmants needed...you should have no problem.

Same here. I took a little longer to make sure I did everything right but truly easy. I don't think you can screw it up because everything plugs in only one way and all the fittings are already in place. No adjustments needed on mine.

#122 8 years ago

Anyone get this? Was one of my best ball ones and had to remove the glass to drain it. A lot of air all in this game.

That spot happens to most of us. Stern put a screw in some of our playfields to correct this, but it does help for the most part. I put a raised rubber sticker there. Its slightly better than the screw. At least it wont chew up the ball.

that fix is for balls resting on the bumper; his pic shows the ball on top of the bumper from an air ball....I think.

and no haven't gotten a stuck ball there. In fact I think ive only had one stuck ball in the year and half Ive had mine *knock on wood* lol. My air balls reduced when I put a cliffy post at the warp ramp entrance. I guess Steve Ritchie doesn't like this fix though and recommends using super band post rubbers to reduce air balls.

#125 8 years ago

My ball normally will get stuck near the bumpers on its decent to the third flipper before I shoot the warp ramp. It actually happens a lot.

#126 8 years ago

I see now how its on top of the bumpers. Sorry, I wasn't looking at it at the right angle.
What a weird place.

Put a small piece of adhesive felt on the screw head below/between the lower pops. Ball will not hang up again.

#128 8 years ago

Just had a 30 combo, 235M game. Having a lot of fun on this machine.

#129 8 years ago

Ok, will do.

#130 8 years ago

Air balls are not too bad on mine. I have had some interesting ones fly across the playfield but never had to take the glass off to get a ball unstuck. I do get balls hung up in the lower pops quite often. Sometimes that I even use it to my advantage in multiball - lol.

Yes, I agree. That's what I was referring to. Just below the pops on the rubber and it just sits there until you almost tilt the machine. Other than that, I have noticed a few flying balls, but nothing to serious or worth really looking into. Great game though. Very fun!
