Quoted from QuarterGrabber:Read an LE review, think of that with a little less cool things on it (side rails, Backglass, ect...).
Or cooler things, like superior cabinet art.

Quoted from Aurich:I dunno, let's just say they make $1000 more on an LE than a Premium. I actually doubt it's even that much, but just for argument's sake. What if they offered the mirrored backglass and light up side rails on Star Trek as upgrades, for $500 each? Again, fake numbers. The question is could they sell more upgrades to Premium and Pro owners, just from a pure numbers perspective, than they make LEs? I think the answer is yes.
Not my business, and it's not like what I'm suggesting doesn't come with its own headaches, but I think they're missing out on a market with the way people love to mod out their machines. Factory Mods™ seems like easy money. Get the distributors to install them before delivery. No disrespect to our fine dealers here on Pinside, but the model of buying from them instead of Stern directly is really an old and outdated one. If you're going to keep it then get some more value add out of it. And the distributors would get a cut obviously, so they'd make more money.
Who would suffer would be the small mod makers, but they'd just have to keep finding their niches. Hell, I'm technically one of them, I've been selling an alt translite here, but I'd be good with Stern doing this.
Good points. I've never understood the whole distributor thing with Stern. It's outdated, like car dealerships. Stern should sell direct, with custom builds. No more inflated MSRP. Set up a model like Apple and go.
