Star Trek Next Generation Cannon Issue

I was working on a Star Trek Next Gen this week. Been working on these games since 1995. Seen a lot, but on this game the right probe launch is acting up. It moves fine in test and without a ball, but once a ball (or anything that breaks the switch opto on the gun) the gun moves REAL slowly...don't have a clue on what that might be - as soon as the ball is out of the gun it moves quickly. Its like when the ball is in the gun, breaking the opto switch beam, it loses power. Any help is appreciated!

Sounds like you just need to clean it. It’s a common problem with the cannons. Take it apart and clean everything - there are a lot of threads on Pinside about this subject of you search.

I think there was a thread on this regarding T2 or STTNG cannons. In test, the driver board applies full power to the motor. In game and when loaded, it pulses power to the motor to slow it down.

I agree with @mschonbrun, disassemble, clean and apply fresh grease is your very first step.
