I'm looking at mounting some speakers to the backbox in some way.
Zitt. The other Idea I had for mounting speakers was to get a pair of oval shaped speakers and mount them behind the grill that is present in the short section directly below the backbox that sits on the cabinet. Its a bit small but I think it would work and then you would have ho change it the look of the cabinet. Also get a small subwoofer and directly mount it in the bottom of the cabinet replacing the existing speaker.
Here is the general idea.
Quoted from Zitt:humm... the vent? that's an interesting idea.
Yes the vent! I was thinking of doing that but I wanted to get it up and running right away and the Altecs I got seemed to be the ticket. Looks like I'm going to need to screw my speakers to the cabinet as the double stick tape is just not holding. Will work on that tomorrow. I'm pretty satisfied with my setup for now.
Another thought. You could replace that vent section with one that is a couple of inches taller and then you could put in bigger round speakers. It's just a couple of pieces of 3/4 ply and since you have everything already dismantled and are repainting also, it would be an easy thing to do.
Just a thought.
