I sat down and made a wire form in the shape of a Star Trek insignia. That then led to designing a ball ( left rail / right rail) mechanism that alternates after each ball as a vertical upkicker is used to load the ball at the top of the insignia.
I have a shooting white wood that I will post later in the build. I got a donor machine today for the boards, cabinet and mechs. It will take a bit of time as I have a young son and he is the play tester. (He’s 5).
Star Trek Discovery has a huge amount of story lines over the two seasons that are great for mission style modes. Here is my mode list a work in progress:

    Torch Bearer
    Klingon war
    Michael
    Alternate universe
    Lorca battle
    Spore drive
    Pike
    Control
    Red Angel

Hopefully this might be interesting for others. Any Proc tips

Well its official. I killed a xtreme machine today. Man is that a boring game with horrendous call outs.

Keeping the main mech and just roughed out a altered ball catch and return as the vuk location is being moved to the back and feed the wireforms I made. Mounting a discovery ship on top of rotating mech. This is really interesting to figure out. So far its going slow because of time I can spare, but got alot figured out today. Not using the xtreme playfield, just using it to hammer out the shape needed.

Got the 3d printer started up and have bumper caps printed out. More to come. Ender pro 3. Machine is very good and priced very well for what it can do.

I redid the left corner section as I was not happy with the way it was. I built a mini playfield, built wire forms in the box frame that when you shoot the left ramp the ball goes around the box and feeds back to upper flipper. The upper flipper has two newton ball shots. The upper has a ball catch that must be hit to release it back to lower newton. Theres also two stand ups on inside of them and theres going to be a kick out plate in center. I will add more pictures and details as it goes. Very fun.

That playfield has a switch in back middle corner. The ball comes back and feeds the upper flipper well. Theres 5 targets for that flipper to hit, so I racked my brain to come up with this.

    #14 4 years ago

Thanks for the interest!. One of the manufacturers should consider going after discovery for themselves and making another Star Trek machine. Theres a good amount of material in the two seasons that aired.

    #16 3 years ago

I really enjoyed the first two seasons. I was originally going to make a Wrath of Kahn machine. Ricardo Montalban version. I stumbled into Discovery late and watched the whole 2 seasons. Way more story and it was really interesting to me and enjoyable. The girl from walking dead is a really good character and actress. Star trek Picard ruined my next gen machine. Every time I look at back glass I now see Picard the Android. Seriously wtf!

Newton ball mech. Works well and will be good alternating shots from upper flipper top to bottom. The center target is a kickback plate assembly that will fire the ball right back at flipper. The artwork will be a top down view of a ship. Thinking newton balls will be laser fire and kickback photon torpedo. Still planning / programming all this out.

Sarcastic words read to literal. I was just beating up the captains now an android storyline. My wife loves Picard and she was like he died and became an android? Yup. Thats where they went with it. I only meant it as a joke towards that storyline.
She loves Picard and I am a Kirk guy (Shatner). So I like to get her riled up when I get the chance.

Trying to rough out artwork on my lunch breaks. Looking to layer Michael standing on broken starship during her talk with Spock as they figured out time jumps is where I am at mentally. The center hole shot for ramps will have the beat the game shot where she goes through time holes. The back panel at end of playfield will have artwork of that jump. That scene of her getting pulled through time was visually amazing and thats my end game goal point. Forgive the pencil work. Just illustrating this whole process start to finish. Need to do better scale on broken ship section and get Michael on it where it looks good.

Mounting all mechs and wiring today. Should have flipping video by sunday. I also have a artist hired to paint playfield and cabinet. This is the white wood. I picked up baltic birch 9ply wood from a lumber supply in Plainfield NJ, so I will beat the hell out of whitewood and make all the tweaks and fixes before I cut and have the other ready for painting.

Progressing nicely. The artist and her artwork will not disappoint. She has paintings of aircrafts that are stunning. The ships will look amazing. Michael will be on playfield and on cabinet as well.

I am not doing inserts on this playfield. They will be on final one. Doing this by hand. I will illustrate the layout of inserts when I get there. This is fun. If you got a theme and desire go for it.

Wood screws not good enough for vuk. Had to drill out and install studs. Otherwise it shoots fine and I improved the left ramp with a metal flap and I relocated switch to front of that ramp as it was more reliable and does not impede ball like it did in frame box. Proc board will replace strikers. I have to program everything and that will take the most time. Running strikers board I figured I could get the playfield done and fine tuned then figure out lights, inserts and rules. I do not know if I can do lcd with this combo proc and stern drivers. Hopefully I can.

The plastic will be the virtual screen in front of Michael. We are going to paint Michael reaching out to that panel. The plastic will have that look of her screens. Looking forward to that image mixed with the image of her on playfield. The drawing shows what were aiming for. Disregard the ships, I prefer the other Klingon ship over this one.

Got hung up with makeshift ball catch that feeds vuk. I am just bypassing 3d print and going to make a wireform to catch and feed vuk. Way more forgiving and easier to adjust. I wasted half a day tweaking that plastic mock up. I am better with welding rods.

The Enterprise needs to be on the playfield. I like the forward tilted view on it. I am thinking by left middle target having red angel as another shot.

Looking for input on either clear coating the playfield or using a playfield protector? I have not seen or played a machine with protector on it. This is a one off artist playfield, so i am curious about the protector route? Any pros or cons? It will be easy to install as playfield would be empty after painting.

The upper left rotating mech and 4 bank drop are from striker. I added the looping ramp to it only. The machine is currently playing striker xtreme with the stern board. Next step is going to be Proc board and programming code. That will take the longest. But, I can play it as is and fine tune it. The right spinner is great and my favorite shot on it so far.

    #45 3 years ago

I did add the 4 ball lock and catch assembly to the right wireform. That too is from striker. I will 3d print something to cover it. Original has stadium. Unless I can figure out a star trek stadium shape that can make sense with artwork I will have to make something for it. It works, but the membrane switch has bad traces on 2 sensors. I am going to try rear defogger repair kit as it does same thing as circuit paint. My welding is hit or miss. I really took my time on the wireforms they look better, but not perfect either. And “I will gut you for your insolence” Zitt!!!

Primed and sanded. Now I get to take apart the playfield so I can use it as template on holes for new one. I have to figure out where I am putting inserts and cut the playfield completely before I give it to artist to paint. It would be crazy to have her paint it and the cut out inserts after shes done. So, this is where I am at today. Happy with progress, but very time consuming.

Thanks! I bought a cosmic carnival machine just to see the proc system and how it operated (we do like the machine) as part of this project. That convinced me is was doable. A rotating mech was one of the things I wanted on a playfield and it had to be a whitestar or sam system. It really came down to finding a striker xtreme or a high roller casino. I am really happy I found a good striker machine. The 4 bank drop targets are way better then the roulette wheel assy, so it just worked better. I do appreciate the comments. This is really fun so far. Pinside is the perfect way to log the whole project as it goes.

3d printing Spocks shuttlecraft was going great and I was very happy with the detail. When you trip over the power plug and it trys to restart printing it went to hell! Trying again tomorrow.

3d printer is giving me alot of trouble sticking to base pad today. So I gave up and went back and filled playfield spots with bad cuts and cut out 75 percent of holes. I have to take apart white wood for the remaining cuts, but it is going well. Got some good cutting tips on ask for help topic. Thanks to all that replied.

I am stuck on artist timetable which is fine, so what do I do in waiting? The only thing that makes sense. Killing another striker xtreme machine for another table creation. Just prepping this cabinet to kill time. The wiring harness will be the same as my discovery machine so it will be easier to map out another game that shares dna. I wont start on that until I am done with discovery. I did learn maybe design a playfield prior to having a wireform. It handcuffed a chunk of thoughts. I really like the wireform design, but next one playfield first.

She does murals, but Texas might be too far! She is a very nice local artist in central New Jersey. I did ask her if it was ok to promote her business and she said yes. I will share that information when the time is right. I will bring the machine to Allentown pinfest once it is completed. I want the cabinet and playfield done before I sit down and tackle the programming of proc. I have alot of ideas and I have to figure out how to implement them.

I will ask. Redid that left ramp again. Got sheets of plexi, cutters, welding gloves and a heat gun to form out a better ramp. It works pretty good. Just like bending sheet metal.

I was not going to do inserts on whitewood, but I got instructions on how to do it from a help post and I figured it was smart to practice on this over the final one. The forstner bits rule! I did the two steps first 1 inch then the 7/8 step below.

    #80 3 years ago

The inserts create a ring effect off plexi arch. Very cool, I have several colors and I am trying to pick one over the rest. The clear starburst looks great.

Really thought of that idea of solid front with no coin door. I would have to come up with something besides artwork. This spiderman has no coin door and I cant explain it maybe its just me, but it just changes the look of machine. If something hits me that makes sense I would change the appearance of the coin door with metal work maybe? My friend has a plasma cutting table, so I have access to that tool if I get any ideas. Thanks for the suggestions.

I am yet again going to change the left ramp assemby. The wireform just looked out of place. The best I can do is shape out a plastic box with plexiglass. The ball goes around without issue and I also moved the angle of entrance just a few milimeters to improve the flow. Still working on it, but this is far better then what I had done previously. I wish I did this first.

Thanks Apinjunkie, appreciate feed back on the idea. You and Zitt have same thoughts. The clear plexi does look better then the wood and wireform I made. I think the clear pops is a go! All this plexi with nothing on it was just going to be template for making others and puting artwork on them. The further I go into it I think leaving them clear might look diferent and work well.

    #95 3 years ago

I will be removing the white pvc pipe. I just wanted to see how the plexi body would handle the ball. I will cut and form more plexi to relplace it. If I had access to vacuum forming equipment I would make the whole thing one piece including the ramp. The ball goes way better on plexi over the bent wireform. I really should have thought of the plexi and heat gun route first. Way easier to figure out and make in the end. And looks way better, more like a pinball assembly.

    #96 3 years ago

You ever just look at something and go wtf! I had left the playfield up and I had taken the metal mess of a ball catch out. It freaking dawned on me. Turn the vuk 90 degrees to the left and the ball travel would be easier more direct path. I used half of stock catch. Cut and molded a guide to the vuk. What a difference and what a dummy for working out a bend to something that doesnt need to bend. Duh!!! Now the ball catch is back to plexiglass and Zitt can no longer mock that assembly. Learning alot of why or what would you make that for in this. Still fun!

Hard to see but I cut a strip of plexi and lined the box. The ball goes around the loop great now. I have to tweak the ramp connection to box. I have it atatched on top and I shaved the edges down, but the ball gets hung up when the ball bounces off the wall and comes back down to ramp.

Eightballtexas pushed an idea about eliminating the coin door. We came up with a very cool unique idea to do just that. We just hashed out the concept and I really think it will be amazing to see if we can pull off whats in our head. Thank you sir! You sparked the idea and we are designing it this week. I will post a picture once it is completed, but only when its ready. In progress or what were doing would spoil it. Really cool concept. So thank you sir!

Glued all inserts. Went with clear starburst. I can change bulb colors easier than inserts so I went that way. Added some gi lighting. Added another spinner! You cant have too many spinners! The lights are routed and installed. I have to map them out and program them for proc once I start that process. Progress!

Thanks J85M. The bane of this machine is that upper left ramp. Redo number too many. I had issues with the ball getting stuck on the lips. I was not thinking when I made the plastic version. It needs to be all one piece. I also made a one piece wall for it. I am praying this is the last time I tackle the ramp. The plate worked, but altered the balls velocity too much. Now its all one piece. Lesson learned on ramps.

I moved the post over so the lower captive ball can be hit by a glancing shot off left flipper. Adds another shot. I think this will be better and it can be hit by upper flipper and now if you get a good shot off left it is enough to move ball to upper lock on ball lock assy. I will fill the hole left behind at some point.

Thank you Zahner! I have to take out rotating mech and make the hole larger for the wiring or make another hole. There is one for the switch on post. But, it is not big enough for the switch and led wiring. I paid the artist today and I looked at the cabinet. It is better in person. Michaels face is excelent. Shes finishing up the front and said I can pick it up in a few days. I am trying to figure out lighting for the lower arch inserts. The lights that create the reflected ring affect are very bright and hit me in the face. I am 6”6 so the viewing angle gets me right in the eyes. So that is a work in progress. Thinking tinting, but not sure yet. As of now regular leds because of that. The game shoots very well and I am very happy with it. It is a quick game. Longest I have gone is about fifteen minutes on 3 balls. It is running xtreme rules so its just madness. Once I get the proc board I am going to start the programming. I want all the mechanics ironed out prior. I am also keeping this white wood to beat on. I have a complete second xtreme for parts that will enable me to make another machine. I think it will be great to have my first machines prototype along side a finished version. I can beat the hell out of the proto type and improve the code as it goes.

I have a smaller clear dome one. I just have to make the switch. I agree 100 percent. I did not have that when I started out.

Apinjunkie, I am open to solving the issue in anyway, so thanks for the tip. I will try several ways to see. My height is a pain in the ass.

Cabinet is now done. Picking it up tonight. I really struggled on front panel. If you followed the two seasons maybe you understand why I chose the side art. The right side represents Michaels starting the war with the Klingons in that exchange. The left side is Michael leading the Discovery into a time jump to save the universe from control. (Spoilers). I really enjoyed her story of turning from a convicted starfleet traitor aboard a starship to turn into someone saving all life in the galaxy. Her intensions of betrayal were something I really understood. She was trying to save everyone by her actions of wanting to fire first on the Kingons to prevent a war from starting. The front panel in Klingon has the phrase “we come in peace” on it with starfleet on one side and klingon on the other. That represents the start of the war between the two sides. And how someones actions or statements can have honorable intensions only to be a turning point of chaos or conflict. Art is very subjective, but this is what I felt watching the series and that is what I tried to sketch out.

I am forced to eliminate the headbox folding brackets as I did not think to outline or show where they or the legs would be on cabinet. All my fault, so lesson learned. The bracket on right side covers too much of ship and just kills it. The front legs cover the artwork and at some point I will have it redone. The headbox is now bolted and latched into place. The speaker panel and backglass are only there until I figure out what size monitor I use. I like Sterns backglass to monitor sizing and will follow that model. I put all the hardware on it this morning. Now I have to finish cutting out playfield and artwork for that.

Thanks. She nailed it. She took my drawings and brought them to life way better then I expected. I just finished drilling out all the inserts. Still stuck on playfield art. I was going to have Michael under the arch, but now I think I am going with the player being Michael looking down at the arch.

The lower half of left upper corner is going to be painted as the spore drive chamber. And the captive magnet shot on rotating assembly will be the spore enable shot. I am going to try and get some of those micro leds in blue in chamber.
The right spinner lane shot is hard to illustrate with pencil, but it is going to be the red angel streak as seen in picture. Still working on other images and printing a bigger lelands ship. 23 hour print time!

Primed playfield so it is going out next week for painting. Ship came out well, going to paint and run lights through it. I am trying to figure out one area on playfield drawing, any ships there and it looks too crowded. Thinking maybe a bright star in that spot, but? I am done for this weekend.

Added sphere. Another hard thing to illustrate with a pencil, it should look better painted with the red glow. Also the starfield pictured is what I am going to have her use for entire playfield. The colors are great. I am going to ask her to make it less dense, way fewer stars, but in that exact style. That should really look nice painted.

Redoing lanes at bottom the drones remind me of independence day movie too much, so they are gone. Added Spock lettering as his shuttle will be mounted by that switch. Black alert top center. Fires on captive shots and hit it in launcher lane. And star fleet flag for the mission start shot. Couple more to finish.

I am leaving my original mode plans to follow where this artwork has lead me to. This is all inspired by that point where Spock tells Michael to jump at this precise moment in time. And she does. So I can add to these, but heres the new mode list in order. Not sure if I go Tron route with progression or open modes.

    Jett Reno
    New Eden
    Kaminar
    Time crystal
    Xahea
    Red angel
Last signal for Spock. (Wizard mode).
Mini wizard ( Lorca and a Pike)
    Others I am sure!

Going with this. The bottom is the worm hole she opens and the grids are the time grids seen as she jumps. Added captains names on shooter lane with rank pips above them. Suru was acting captain so I put him in. The shooter lane will be blue like uniforms and the 5 lines are going to be gold. It should look way better painted, but I did it this way as a template of placements. I learned from front cabinet. Looking forward to seeing her work on thie playfield.

Eaglemoss rules. The section 31 base came today and looks amazing. The only thing that sucks is I have to trim the base to put it in. It is going where starbase is. I need to think of the options in doing the cut. The playfield is at artists house now and I look foward to seeing how she does. I showed her everything I drew and explained that she could move the artwork around and make lettering bigger if needed. I will post as soon as I get it back.

Took the section 31 base apart with razor blade to seperate glue and the layers. The only way this model fits is with the base completely off. I was hoping to see a little of the bottom layer, it just wont fit. I like it better then the other star base just not sure how it looks to others with the bottom off. Ideally I would like to 3d print one shrunk down to size, it just would not look as good as this one so I am leaving this in, but my eye says it looks off with no base.

Put micro leds in base. I am really disappointed with the red leds. They just dont have same brightness as the others. But, there is a white on dome top, green on sides and whites on base pointed at base pads. It is hard to see in pictures, but the exhaust port has red led in tube. Took rotating mech out and got wiring routed down bracketing as there was another hole so I did not have to drill anything. I will be trying a different brand of micro leds on the next section 31 base for finished game.

Multiball, newton ball and ramps in action on playfield.

I agee with the speed of rotation. It would look better slower. There is a captive magnetic ball switch in the base of that mech. It might make that shot too easy to hit slowed down. I will look into altering it mechanically or code wise. Thanks for the input, I do appreciate it.

She needs to move logic up and add fire to other reticle.

    #170 3 years ago

Hello Sir! Yes I do want to get those parts from you and I will follow up with you on that. Eaglemoss shuttle looks amazing like all their stuff, but it is too big for the spot I wanted to put it in. And the printed ones dont visually work in this spot. So I made the target that was going to be Spocks shuttle into Vulcan symbol with logic as the text. Going to use that target as Spock assisting player in modes with shot selection. Thinking like a hint button at times. Imagine seeing a bunch of blinking shots and if you hit Logic shot first the lights will show you the specific sequence of shots that are the most “logical” to achieve the goal of the mode. But only if that shot is made first with no other switches hit beforehand. I think that would be very cool feature in a game. No need to look anywhere but the playfield. Since the ball is not captive I think it will be a timed event where the shots will be shown to the player in sequence with flashing targets in the right order. I did not see any of the event. I am hoping the season 3 will be interesting. They are so far into future that the writters can go anywhere with storylines. I hope it does well. I really believe that Stern or someone else could get Discovery license and make a really cool Star Trek game. They are putting it on broadcast tv so there will also be more eyes on it.

The plan is I am braindead sometimes. Most times. Working double shifts does not help. I am done with extra shifts this friday. So I will get some sleep and sit down over the weekend and place another order.

    #175 3 years ago

I will keep the wrong targets. I am sure I will have something they will fit at some point. I just ordered the targets, bases and skirts. Hopefully I am not forgetting something this time!

Thanks WizardPinball and Bobcade. I get that Discovery is a hit or miss show. The second season really captured me with the time travel sumation at the end. Star Trek in general has always played with time and I found this one to be excellent journey. If you have any interest in Captain Pike, Anson Mount put out a great performance and his character is very likeable. I served in the Army and I always tell my friends and family that I would choose Kirk over Picard anyday. Kirk was a fighter first and Picard was too diplomatic. Both are great captains, but Kirk would do anything to win or survive in a instant. This Pike is a blend of them both and well written. I am still waiting on playfield from artist, once I get it I will be posting the build of that one.

Side note, I am seriously considering another version of this project done with inspired artwork and story modes from The Wrath of Kahn and later movies.

Got 303 stainless rods and got a jig going forward, I wish I went this way first! The whitewood has home depot cheap stock rod. The new rods are the same diameter as Sterns. The ones from home depot are alot bigger and not as easily shaped. Grainger has a way better supply and selection of rods. These are 6 foot sections and should be great for the wireforms and should also look much better. I am still waiting on artist, she has alot of murals going on. I am really looking forward to making the finished playfield. I learned alot on whitewood. I have some tweaks in mind that should improve the game overall.

I only kept the center hole! Man I dug this out to shape the return wireforms as it is how I made the ones on whitewood. This started the whole project. Blocks of wood and plastic pipe cap bumpers. Ideas on wood, only way to describe this mess.

Waiting on stainless steel spool it is coming by 8pm thanks to amazon. Got the wire formed roughly. I am sure I need to tweak them, but until I spot weld them and work my way around I wont know. I am adding downward legs to “a” connect. This one will have complete ball guides to vuk. The mock up one only has half, so this one will eliminate the ball kicking out onto playfield.

Stanless is 1/8th compared to home depots 3/16ths. It is way easier to shape and move around, but the heavier rod stays in place and I had easier time with that one as I was able to buy rings and cut them for supports. I did not go crazy looking for stainless rings, so I bent up a bunch of rod to use as supports. I am thinking stainless steel rings would be way better. But I already did the one side. Booooo.

I am seriously considering buying a tig welder for this work. I am using a lincoln mig with stainless spool wire now. Searching online and Harbor freight has a few and the one I am looking at is a Vulcan! I think a tig would make this look better and easier to control the heat. I just have to convince myself to shell out the $700.

Adjusted wire speed and making quicker pass seems to work better. Left side was easier with that approach. Going full bore on this set of wireforms and see where I end up. Argon aint cheap which would add more money on top of tig welder. Worse case scenario is tig route.

Well why not? I like the look of stainless, but the mig welds are not as clean as I would like. So, I found a lincoln tig welder for sale close to me so I bought it. I have to get a different 220 outlet as my motorcycle has different 220 type plug. So these wireforms are getting pricey!

The vuk catch assembly is random left to right as it moves with ball, but I balanced the catch and watch the video. With every flipper activation the wireform moves in small increments. If you rapid fire the flipper on one side the ramp moves enough to influence ball travel left or right wireform!

    #201 3 years ago

Never Tig welded before. I watched a bunch of videos on youtube and finally found one that helped me see what I needed to do. I am making another set of wireforms and they will look so much nicer then the mig welded sets.

Just watched the opener of season 3. Burnham has a great range of emotions in it and it was fun to see her high. Give it a chance if your a Trek fan. The new character is very interesting and well played by the actor. The two of them play against each other in a great way. I am picking up the finished playfield Sunday and that is going to push me further along and for the winter coming along the timing is great.

    #204 3 years ago

Round three on wireforms. I clamped rod to a socket that outer diameter when bent is 1 1/2”. Then cut them in half for the supports. So far going well. Way cheaper to bend a rod then to buy stainless rings, which I would be cutting anyway.

    Quoted from Zitt:

If there is one thing I want to learn to do is TIG weld.
    One day... he says.

I am still learning as I blew through a rod and ruined a wireform last night. Today I cut flat stock and drilled holes for form shape holders. It holds all 4 rods in place and is way better than what I tried yesterday. I tested this on table and it does a few things better. First it maintains the spacing better than brackets that I was usuing. And second It keeps them level on a table and is way easier to weld the rings. I am trying to find the best overall fit with half moons or rings today.

My son wanted to watch me weld so I went out and bought a good lincoln helmet thats adjustable. This is another time where I am going to say I wish I bought this helmet sooner. I got the cheap one for christmas a few years ago and I am guessing it is harbor freight. I had alot of trouble seeing my initial arc since new. I can not tell you how much of an improvement the lincoln is. I can see! Who knew! What a difference in welding. The intial distance on tig if higher away from material flashes alot of power(melting!). This lincoln you can clearly see the point and where it is at. And I am kicking myself for this. What a difference. Look at pictures. My god man! The first is looking through lincoln and second is the other brand.

I thought this information might be good to share about making wireforms. I use two benders. One from marco specialties atatched to a wood handle for 90’ bends. And a brake line tubing bender from Harbor freight. The tubing bender produces nice rounded angles and the marcos one hard angles. Just covering 90’ angles here. If your bending with the marcos tool you subtract the thickness of the rod from your measurement to get the right length on bend. So a 4 inch needed bend would actually be 4 inches minus 1/8” for 1/8 rods. The brake line bender is minus 1/2 inch of needed measurement. Same thing if you need a form to reach a 4 inch mark, you would bend it at 3 1/2 inches. Other benders might be different. But the harbor freight one works great and is cheap. I thought anyone digging through this build might be curious so I am putting it in this log. You can see the two types of bends in pictures. One bent at 4inches and the other at the subtracted.

I need therapy. I had a 25th machine years ago and I just picked up a dead one. I did not notice the battery acid damage on board which sucks! Rottendog use to be my go to route and there no longer an option. I cleaned up what I could, but no pia or blanking! Picking up a game at 7 am in a garage with poor lighting was on me. Not mad at seller, I should have done a better inspection. I would have haggled more. Happy that I got another one, but wish I saw it when I was there.

Sat down and wanted to alter the wireform route to a more straight run. I am seeing some cool ideas running through my head. I have been up since 4 am so I am punch drunk at this point and its creative sparking. Hard to see on old white wood, but look at the pictures and I hope you see what I see. I think it will come together amazingly. The last picture should hit it home. Nacelles!

I am extending the vuk by 9 inches towards the player. It will give you clear view of both upper corners and I am changing the ball left to right to a simpler more reliable triangle assembly. (Thanks star trek 25th) going to mimic that alternating mech. You can see how much better the view of top playfield will be. I was dumb to create a machine around a wireform, but it got me started so thats good enough for me.

Thank you sir. We will see if the welds pass the “Zitt test”.. The top rails will extend past the upper curves and Look like a top view of discovery engines. Thinking el wire in blue on nacelles and going to weld rods to look like impulse engines with red leds on back. I want it to look like your seeing the ship from above and behind. Looking like this picture is the idea.

Paper is not big enough, but I am going to make the whole ship into wireform skeleton. Paper was just too see if it would work visually.

Pondering ideas, but star trek next gen has a cool shooting lane that loops. I am going to try and see if I can make the shooting lane loop into the saucer section at ball launch.

I have to check velocity and angles to see if this is doable. But I want to make shooter lane a skill shot that leads to saucer and rolls around to 3 possible drop holes. I have to see if the ball would go over the drops well enough for this to work. I would put one way gates to catch and drop the ball. Or make small bends like a mini ramp before the holes that would jump the hole and if the ball came back the mini ramp would also drop it. The longest shot to bridge hole, the next drop to pop bumpers and last drop to outlanes. Should be interesting and I really want this to work. Bridge shot still looking at possibilites. The other two are perfect. I also will need to find a coil that was strong enough to fire ball up to first drain hole only as that would be better for multiball mode loading as they would come down rails left to right and I think that would be fun.

Is it important to know which rod you just welded? My hand says yes. So far ok. Hard part is the saucer.

Not that you need my approval; you asked for it.
Yes, you have done a very good job.
I really want to learn to do the same or better.

Hello Sir, I said that as a joke and I hope you read it as such. I can tell you that when your up late welding so your son wont disturb you it might be good to not run out of argon gas! I did and now I am stuck until I get refilled. The saucer is way from complete as I cant do anything now, but I do like the look. I still have to extend nacelles forward and put points on rear.

Got nacelles done. Tried to make rails on saucer section and I am having issues keeping the shape. Even with lesser heat the tension of the circle pulls and pushes. Got two tanks of argon 80’s! I have thicker rod going to try that next.

Rings are tough because they flex with the heat. This is the third set of rings. Very difficult and I hope I can tweak it a bit more tomorrow.

I should have stopped last night and thought it out more. I went to harbor freight and bought 8 locking pliers for $35. Cheapos but all they need to do is hold rod to shape. I am going to make attempt #4 on saucer sections. I should have thought of this last night and stopped. If I leave the rod clamped in place I should have better results. I am cutting slots into ring where the support rods are getting placed and welded to rings. I made the previous rings on the ship, I think I need to make the rings off the ship and only weld them on as an assembly. Sometimes I get so locked into trying to get something done I keep pushing my way into it. A nights sleep and talking with my wife we came up with this process. I think it will be way better, but we will see today.

235 am. Oofa, lost track of time and was listening to my i phone and went to change it to something else and saw time. Not finished but the saucer cage assy is! Now I need to see how to get the ball to it from shooter lane and make some cuts. I am happy enough with this one!

Wow that wireramp is art on its own. Well done! Very impressive.

Thanks for the complement. My mother in law loves it and it really is a cool looking thing. So, I will be making another one of these wireform ships of discovery and turn it into a clock. The saucer section is perfect size for a wall clock. Its 10” diameter. I will find a wall clock and strip it to just the mechanism and the hour and minutes arms.

    #240 3 years ago

Started the entrance ramp to saucer. I am not cutting the drop out holes until I have the ship installed on playfield and I see how the ball goes around it first for power. Worse case I will have one drop out to left outlane rail as it is at base of it and even a weak shot would find its way out. If it loops the saucer I might leave it as a power meter for shot loops? But I wont know anything until I get there. Good weekend on the machine. The saucer is not welded into place yet so it looks off center because of that. I wanted to see it on the body.

Thanks to veterans day being a holliday for my job another late night of welding. I added another ring to saucer and welded a pinball to the center to be the bridge section. I might put a spine from that down to body like the ship, but not sure. I need to make a transition ramp from the plunger to the wireform for better speed, but a plung as it sits now goes all the way around to just above pop bumpers. So I can have it be a skill shot to pops or to left rail and that works for me. I think I am going to make the wireform 2 pieces that bolt together so it can be taken apart easier and also help level it and I think that makes more sense. I got el wire for nacelles but I am not sure if they help the look or take away. I am leaning more to leaving them bare. I did not go crazy creating good lines on it, I just put one on to see.

The speed around saucer would only go. 3/4 around loop. So I decide to alter the saucer with drops to left and right rail. Full power launch always goes left lane. The rightt lane is a good shot in finding right plunger power to drop to right lane. The right lane will have the ball lock assembly. My wife wants me to figure out a way to launch ball to wireforms or to shooter lane. I like that idea alot and that will be my next hurdle. I have a clear plastic that I am going to have artist put uss discovery and 1031 on it. I think that would look great. The video is the skill shot demo of left or right rail.

    Skill shot demo on rails

    #246 3 years ago

I love my wife. My muse. I will put a kicker solenoid like an out lane saver type with a post that launches the ball underneath the wireform in shooter lane. The wireform will have a one way gate with a drop to shooter lane. The ball will drop roll back to solenoid and it will fire the ball to the lane guides above pop bumper. Everything is determined at plunger. Left rail, right rail or shooter lane. Three possible launch points. She puts great ideas in my head and she also loves pinball machines. Great combo. I am logging all this build and ideas for my family and anyone else interested in this game.

Artist needs to put discovery and ncc1031 on it, but she sent me this update on the ships. Getting closer and I am excited to start seeing the project getting closer to finished on the artistic side of things visually. I will run out of excuses for not programming the machine soon and I need that kick in the ass to sit down and start the part of this that will take the most effort. Everything I have done to now has been alot of fun and very interesting. And you can see the progress easily. Coding is a different beast. I have to blow the dust of my brain. I took computer science (programming) in college. That was in the nineties! I have to relearn the process using pyhton. In college I took basic, cobol and pascal. I grew up using atari 800xl and moved up to a commodore 64 ( I still have the entire c64 system) and like basic programming. I know exactly what I want to do with this game, I just have to do it.

    Thanks PinballManiac40 I appreciate that.
. I worked on data east machine the past two days. I have seen it all now. I spent half the day removing sprayed white greese from all the pivots and solenoids today. Some people are crazy. Google can answer most questions and what would posses someone to do this! I got a used board from a good pinside member and tore down the playfield today. Its up and running and I am very happy that I got it now. The backglass is still an amazing effect for such an old machine. It is lithium white greese and there was alot of over spray on backside of playfield. Nuts! Even the stand up targets were lubed!

    Quoted from Apinjunkie:

Please don't take this the wrong way but seeing that gives me space wood
    How's the code coming?

I understand! The artist (Janice) and her daughter are very talented. They took my drawings and absolutely killed it. We had texts explaining stuff back and forth and I would send her video clips to help grasp the purpose or texture I was looking for. This sounds weird, but I saw all this art in my head and she took that out and put it down with paint. I understand now why designers pass or take on themes. If you dont like or understand a theme I dont think you can create something well.
Code: blinking lights! I have been stalling on that part alot. Once I get this playfield together in the cabinet I will move on to it. I really thought it was better to build everything out prior to code. Having a shooting game to tweak all the playfield stuff prior makes sense to me. I might be crazy, but I think that makes sense. I know all the modes I want to do. Once this one is in the finished cabinet I will have no excuses.

Picked up the playfield today and it looks better in person. The colors are great. I just wanted to see the wireform over the painted playfield and we are thrilled with it. I have blank playfield protector sheets from playfield protector supplier. I have one installed on my black knight and I really dont feel it plays any differently from stock playfield. I also want to preserve this artwork so it was getting one no matter what. I love how she painted this. I am putting artblades on sides or mirrors. I forgot to sand them down with the rest of cabinet.

Cutting protector sheet tips. Forstner bits with a cardboard box underneath for support works great. You immediately see the cut and theres no damage from carboard contact. A sharp razor knife for the rest. It came out pretty well and the entire playfield is covered.

Thanks for that tip! I still have to trim out sections. That is a very good point and I have not thought of that, so thanks. I have only used one playfield protector and I do remember that it basically hangs over playfield. I will mimic that one. I can cut out the areas like the flipper guides and slings. I am deciding if I am stripping down the whitewood to transfer over everything or going to keep it together as I planned. Not decided yet. I really appreciate the heads up!

How thick is that sheet? If you pin it down at all it’s liable to lift .. not sure if you’ve seen that on other threads? Better to float it if you can

Sheets are .50 mm. I am still going to follow Mbeckers advice on installing it.

Hello Sir, I would consider it if I knew someone local that can do it correctly. And I want to thank Mbecker again, I still have some cuts to finish, but it is going to make installing all the hardware easier because its almost a guide plate.

I understand alot of people have not liked Discovery as a show, but damn it seeing Nimoy mixed into this season as a follow up from a next generation plot line was awesome. Spock and Kirk are still my all time favorite characters. Nimoys Spock stretched into The next generation, the reboot movies and now into the Discovery show is just fun to watch. This show is not perfect, but it has some perfect moments and seeing Nimoy as a hologram in it is the absolute best one yet.

Killed another Striker Xtreme! I will be killing the whitewood too. I wanted to keep both going, but it will save me time and effort as this other striker has alot of issues. I will save the mechs and wiring for another project.

Its a Zero Srf. Electric bike with 110hp. Its insane and I will never buy a gas bike again. It goes 105 to 110 miles on a charge. I do 90 mile commute to work when the weather is good and have no issues. If your a bike guy find a Zero dealer and take a test ride. It can charge on 120 or 220. 220 charge to full is less then 3 https://www.zeromotorcycles.com/model/zero-srf

I spent a good part of the day making new wire guides for playfield. Using same stainless rods and threading them and they have 2 nuts one above playfield and one below. I can adjust and secure them in the right position this way. When I used the striker ones on whitewood they are hammered into playfield and I had some splintering and loose guides as a result. The nuts are metric 6 and are low profile machine type nuts. The ball does not hit any part of the nut as the center of ball hits rod first, so it was my solution to installing them without issues. The only drawback is I had to make all the ones for the playfield. The benefit is they look better then the hardened rod that is black. Done for today I am spent.

I did not enjoy taking the whitewood apart, but the wiring harness is sorted out and labled, so it was going to save me alot of time. It felt shitty to kill it! I made a new newton ball wireform and welded it to the holders over going into playfield. I am not done with it, but I am happy with where it ended up.

I am glad playfield protector supplier sent me 3 sheets as I only ordered one and he was very generous in doing that for me. The first try I am not thrilled with, so I am starting another one as a result. I straightened up the chaos in the garage as it was blown up. When you have a playfield holding hundreds of screws and loose parts sitting on top of it, you really dont want to knock it over. I was welding and backed into it and madness ensued. Cleaned up and reorganized for next weekend.

We could not accomplish what we tried for with the coin door. We made several attempts and the space (3d) was not enough for us with the rails and bottom of playfield being an issue. We were trying for a space battle with ships and lights. It looked off as it had to be top down or bottom up view with 3d printed ships. On paper it had my attention, in reality it just did not click.
I really like the shape of the red angel suit deployed. This is the next attempt on coin door area with this shape being the focal point.

Number two in progress. First one I measured out marks and the cuts were off on a few spots. Stripped playfield down and got sheet on top of playfield and using a flashlight to mark holes. Another time where I wish I did this method first!

Walked away. The newton ball cage does not work good enough. I messed with it for a few hours tweaking it and my wife said you need to stop. She is right. I made the mistake of replacing a known wireform design that worked into the cage one which does not. Mistake. I got the protector cut out and on it and it looks great. Mbecker thank you again. I had two post holes too small and man did it bubble up, that would have really sucked.

That explains the helpfull tips! Your playfield looks great and that is a great theme choice. There is no time limit on creativity. I look forward to following your game progressing to the finish. It does not matter how long it takes. You can do alot with coding and fight club. Thats a great choice. And my god man! I just looked at your build! That wiring is insanity!

Not done, but newton wifeform is back to working shape. Tig welder is awesome to tack washers to stainless rods for support struts and then threading the other end. Looks great and is way better than I had it in whitewood. And I put in Zitts drop targets and I am very happy with them. So thanks Zitt!

Meh. Honestly; I *HATED* season 1. Season 2 was better. Season 3 even better yet.
That said; Picard was great for me - but some friends weren't feeling it.
We'll see what Season 3's finale has in store for us... I'm very curious what is sending that distress call.

I agree that this season is more Trek. I just really dug the time travel and Captain Pike storyline alot. Saru stinks on ice! There I had to say it. I feel better now. I just dont like him as a Captain and that kills it a bit for me this season. The alternate universe angle is working very well and the last episode was very good. And you get see Saru say its better to let one person die statement to his staff and the Admiral. Burnhams face expresses my thoughts on Saru better than I can type out!

Replacing plastic ball ramp wall with something alot stronger and looks better. Pretty dumb to weld with a migrane headache. The inner wall is still poly the outer is just for ball blocker from playfield. It just looked empty on its own.

Yes Zitt they worked, but these were the second ones I bought and they showed Stern switch number when I looked them up. Another problem when you change the design of wireforms hit me today. The lock assy wiring would not work on right side as the new distance is too much if I put it on right rail. So, I make a new poly ball lock assy, cut wireform for the mech and did not notice the coil and 4 ball switch now block view of Logic target. Damn it.. right side is out as I would have to route out a new hole for it and I dont want to go that route. Maybe the logic insert will not be a problem when it is lit up. So leaving it until then to see. Just sucks that I did not think of or see the problem prior to cutting.

In a previous post I mentioned the show is not perfect, but has perfect moments. They did it to me again. Twice in one episode. The call back integration of the gaurdian was excellent homage to the original series and a very creative way to get her out of the timeline. That was the first. The second, (dont beat me up too bad) was Burnams toast at the end to Philippa. Sonequa is a very talented actor and I really dug the speach and her delivery of it. She tried to go full Shatner (Spocks death) and really came close.

    #306 3 years ago
    Quoted from Zitt:

I personally find the Mirror Universe story in Disco to be lazy.
That said; we know she's doing Section 31... but the point in "time" where the Guardian claims Philippa is going is perplexing to me.
It's probably "anywhere" they want it to be. I can't imagine it's back at Disco's original timeline. But who knows.
We'll see when they finally start filming Section 31.

I get it, it is not for everyone its just working out plotlines to move Philippa out of the show. I really like Michelle Yeoh as a person so that affects my bias with her in the show. Shes the female Jackie Chan. Just fun to watch. Youtube her fighting scenes on youtube. She has skills. Her fight scene with Michael was very cool and she was fighting defensively and tried to save her the whole fight. Sonequa and Michelle really worked great together as characters. Philippa was a unique character and I will miss her on the show. She was different, aggressive, brutally honest, driven and would do anything to protect Michael. Fanboy rant!

I worked out a way to move ball lock back to right rail, so I welded left rail back together and cut out the right. I also had to shorten the ball drops on both sides. I can run the ball lock wiring behind the start mission target. It fits and has room so I am glad to be back to normal view on left side, it just did not work.

Thanks! Painting Klingon red and I have cut poly for insert. Still working out details, but I thought Klingon red was appropriate.

Theres still painters tape covering strut arm mounts, but it looks great. And I am in the process of trying to make section 31 base. If it comes out well, it too will be painted. Fun day today. I feel like playing sega star trek looking at that red ship. I had the captains chair sega machine and I sold it a few years ago like a moran. It was a great vector game.

    Quoted from Cmartin1235:

The side post is a good idea on the right return lock. How are you detecting balls in that lock?

There is a 4 ball membrane switch on the bottom of channel. It might not be in some pictures, but I do have it.

    Quoted from Zitt:

    someone likes to weld.

I really liked the look of the Klingon ship in wireform over the 3d printed one once I made it. With the discovery being so big and being a wireform I figured the game would look good with other wireform pieces in it. The starbase should look good when painted and I was able to scale it down to the size needed to work on the rotating mech and that was biggest reason. And yes I do enjoy tig welding stainless rods!

Proc through stern whitestar driver board and mechs. Started with basic Mpf, I had a chance to talk to Scott Danesi through emails on a parts return issue and he said he liked skeleton. So I am in between worlds at the moment and trying to lock down which path I go down further. Scott said you can do more with skeleton. I have a very basic mpf now, so I can go skeleton or keep going mpf. The benefit of going this route was I could run the original game program just to be able to play the whitewood and figure things out as its all the original stern hardware and switches. The switch itself is reliable as its a new one. The original broke down internally. And I painted the base.

    Quoted from Cmartin1235:

I know Scott is a big SG fan and its served him well. Personally, I've been using MPF for a couple years now and have not hit limits yet with rule complexity, control or multimedia yet. But either way is good. I have similar ramp locks on Greek Gods but I went with optos, similar to what Multimorphic does with its ramp switches. Had I known about the membrane switches I might have gone with that. Again, my complements on the wireforms. Hours and hours of work there.

I have another machine build to follow! Nice work on the Greek Gods! Looks very cool. I really dig the newton ball trails. I am assuming you made them and they look great. I see Kansas city as location, I was stationed at Fort Riley and spent a few years in Kansas as a result. I do not miss the numerous tornado warnings or watches on the tv though. And I was there during the floods when it rained for a whole month once, 92 or 93 cant remember but it was nuts.

Got hit with an idea. Whats more reliable then gravity? My son went to bed, I wrapped a few gifts and got hit with an idea. Yes more welding.... Added another drop ramp that feeds the bumpers. All from plunger left rail, right rail and now pop bumpers! Power of launch is key. I am posting a video showing it working. I am launching ball with my thumb as its not in machine. Playfield at 6.5 and it works great. Merry christmas to all of you and your families.

    Video

Video of 3 launch points with new add on to wireform.

    #325 3 years ago
    Quoted from Mbecker:

I don’t quite understand how the 3 launch points work but that is awesome!!

Its so simple but works great. There is a cut out just bigger than the ball on rail and two small bends to get the ball to jump over the hole. The velocity determines everything. Very soft and it will fall into hole, moderate it passes hole but comes back and falls in. Eliminates adding a kicker and switch to do same thing I wanted and its error free.

    Quoted from jabdoa:

You can fall back to code in MPF at any time. If you have or want to. Some of our users do that but by far not the majority. We try to provide a convenient config interface for common stuff in a machine but they are all optional. You can still just access everything from code either using our abstractions or directly.

Thanks for the information. I started with mpf and I have no issues with it at all. This is my first machine and the first dipping of my toes back into coding since the late nineties. I had a chance to ask Scott a few questions about his game and he said both are good, he mentioned that he was able to do more with skeleton. I am still pondering which to deep dive into. Once this game is reassembled I am locking down to coding it. I do appeciate any and all coding tips or opinions. I looked at Greek Gods and he said mpf was fine and his game looks great.

Screwed up Michael on arch, speed setting is critical. 1.5 with fine diamond tip works great. Anything over that speed it jams bit and tends to wander. Got Pike on left bumper and Spock on right from them watching Michael go into wormhole.

Theme is weird, but it is a really interesting game. That being said, I got into discovery’s wiring today and I am moving along. I am working double shifts again this week so I will be shot.

Thanks to a ignorant co-worker I am now in quarantine. The mans wife was so sick he was going to take her to er, but she refused to go and so he just decided to come to work anyways. We get full pay without penalty to stay home if we are sick or in contact with someone that is sick due to covid. Well she tested positive for the virus and I worked with the idiot for 2 full days. Now I cant be with my family or son because he is high risk with asthma and I am locked into a section of my house because of his ignorance. I never work without a mask and I do wear gloves, but we cant risk it for my son. The only good thing is I have not seen my son since last Sunday as I have been working double shifts all week. I got sent home at 12:30 today. Don’t do this to someones family if you can avoid it. Some people just dont care about others and that sucks.

Quoted from Zitt:Shouldn't he... like be fired... for putting people at risk

I agree with all of that. I should mention that he is also a union rep. He is a arrogant asshole that does what he wants at the job because of that.

I thought the cliff hanger was going to be Michael not answering the Captain question. That being sad, I like that she is now the Captain. The writters showed respect to Kirk with “I dont believe in no win scenarios” and that was just funny. But, they showed her doing what a Captain would need to do with ejecting someone into space. She is driven and very smart. It was interesting to see 3 seasons of story following a character to the point of reaching Captain.

    Quoted from Zitt:

That all clear targets looks awesome; what's the deal with the blue target top the right...
    ?

I got a few different color targets. Red, green, yellow and blue. They are stern plug in switches from Marcos. Thanks to being locked up I am just working around the lights and targets. I have a few limited color leds so I am just seeing what I like. These might change, but it breaks up the all white. I also can recomend the milwaukee cordless soldering gun. It works great and the battery does alot of soldering on a single charge.
I dont know how I messed up the center rear target, but I did and the shot was way to narrow so I had to switch position with the insert so thats why it is different. Sucks, but I had no other options.

I could not get a smooth transfer launch between the two materials. So I extended the launch rail back to edge of lane. I have to rework switch, but headed in the right direction. I wasted some time trying to get it to work. I gave up and walked away. Thanks to my wife again, then today started this. Now its all one piece from launch to rails much better.

Ignore the inserts as they are mostly a mess. I am just getting the playfield tigthened up, what better way to bash it up with multiballs.

Altered newton mech and took out the spring loaded gate. Long term I think it would be a problem. If the shot is good the ball will stay up as the guide is bent in a way to lean the ball on upper newton.

Relocated spinner to left ramp entrance as it blocked view of red angel shot on right side. The 4 ball catch and spinner were too much in on one

Still messing with leds on spore chamber. They are on constant with sound driven pulse. I have not found the sweet spot.

I had to mig weld the ball launch guide for better support. One broke after a bunch of games. I laid a bead underneath that covers rails on both sides of circle support.

I added inner artblades too see if they work? Still not sold, but?

I need to get stronger powered solenoid for auto launch as this one is not consistent enough.

Thanks to Walmart I bought season 2 for the dvds to rip video files from. It is way more fun to build a machine then to code it! I got a TNA in a trade and I am blown away by the sound system. Its sounds amazing. Best sound track in a machine I have ever played. The alienware is not as much fun as a tig welder!

A few days and multiple hours of trial and error on the computer has me going with skeleton. I switched from my using my desk top(mpf) to a surface pro(skeleton) and I dont know if I did not go deep enough in mpf, but I really dug the tutorial pages on skeleton website. It just clicked. I have been running the machine on striker code just to figure out the shots and playfield mechs. I started mapping out the components, lights, solenoids etc.. As a result of using proc with stern driver board and wiring harness the circuit numbers are all over the place, but identified to go forward. Here is my high tech manual first 3 pages.

    Quoted from leothelowe:

If you don't mind me asking but I know you are using RGB lights and that those are probably in serial.
How are you doing the coils and switches?

They are not rgb. They are standard lights. So, this game is a Proc through stern driver board as I used striker xtremes wiring harness for the game including the mechs and switches. This was my first attempt at making a game and I thought it would be easier to take a existing system to a different playfield design. It limited some aspects, but allowed me to to have a flipping game with reliable mechs straight away. The wiring harness was the biggest reason I went this way. I worked what I wanted to design with this system as a result. I also tried different shaped inserts and that was really frustrating to do by hand and I had terrible luck with the arrows. So, I then decided to make all the inserts circles as I could handle that with a bit. All of this put me in a box with things I could do, but I found a good enough for me result in the design that followed. You can see the harness progressing in the pictures. I hope this explains it.

I got in touch with the artist that painted my Discovery this morning. I am going off track a bit, but I am redoing the cabinet on a tna. Not touching the playfield or backglass, but the cabinet artwork is so flat that we are going to do something different. I have to strip out the machine for her to do it and it will take a bit of time, but thats where I am headed project wise. I did buy a complete set of decals for the tna. If I want to sell or trade it later on the cabinet can be put back to stock. I will post the tna stuff on its own soon.

The artist is all in. I measured the spooky cabinet and the spare stern cabinet I have in garage. I am not a fan of the spooky cabinet or its artwork. I am going to port the game over into the stern cabinet. The base is extremely close in measurements. I am crazy! But, I really love tna as a game, Scott created something great. I hope this project does not insult him or anyone at spooky.

This is where I am at so far. Its hard to illustrate, but I am using the triangle twice like an hour glass in a framework as a time traveling device. The dotted lines will be briliant dots of light and each segment represents a moment in time. The structure of the framework has time travel mathmatical equasions on it. The girl is (i dont know her name?) bleeding colors, being pulled into the time windows created by the triangles. The matrix of squares are a bank of cooling rods, that should look better painted. The map of U.S. has 9 targets of nuclear reactors. If the government is watching my searches I expect a knock on the door soon. Googling nuclear reactors, meltdowns, controls etc.. all good right?

Taking a creative license with story and artwork. The backglass triangle is a hard image to do antything with. I thought if I mirriored the triangle and framed it as a time device it made it work a little with the backglass. I am leaving the backglass as is, I think a storyline of going back in time to stop the progression of nuclear technology seemed interesting to me as saving the world by destroying it.
I could be wrong, but I would like to see this playfield with a little room to breathe above it. If it works in the stern cabinet there would be space to do some cool stuff in the back.

That's cool news. If someone where to do some mod option doors I think it would be a hit. Mine will always be HUO so no need for all that mechanics and if pins could be ordered just blank it would save some money and some fun designs would come out... One guy said he would make a small box and hold his beers..HAHA
I would have it open like ST doors on the enterprise...just dreaming...or a slide out tray mimicking the food replicator...bring me bourbon..LOL.

Figured I would cross post this coin door idea I just did for my tna machine. I will get back to Discovery once I am done making people mad at me for altering tna in the first place.

    Quoted from Mbecker:

Haha I like that. Even more so if they were functional and replaced fusing

The games power switch is being moved to one of them. I would love to do things with the other 5 breakers. Tripping them off with a solenoid when you blow a reactor up would be fun. Some suggestions came in as well. The best one is killing banks of switches that are reactor related that you would have to reset by hand.

I am working with the ipad pro and a program called procreate for a translite for Discovery. The software is amazing and I am trying different artwork and this is my first idea for Discovery. Not done, but this is first layer.

Printed one out and it looks good. True test will be the 26 x 16 print.
