Replacing plastic ball ramp wall with something alot stronger and looks better. Pretty dumb to weld with a migrane headache. The inner wall is still poly the outer is just for ball blocker from playfield. It just looked empty on its own.

So; those wide Data East targets work? Awesome.

    #303 3 years ago

Yes Zitt they worked, but these were the second ones I bought and they showed Stern switch number when I looked them up. Another problem when you change the design of wireforms hit me today. The lock assy wiring would not work on right side as the new distance is too much if I put it on right rail. So, I make a new poly ball lock assy, cut wireform for the mech and did not notice the coil and 4 ball switch now block view of Logic target. Damn it.. right side is out as I would have to route out a new hole for it and I dont want to go that route. Maybe the logic insert will not be a problem when it is lit up. So leaving it until then to see. Just sucks that I did not think of or see the problem prior to cutting.

In a previous post I mentioned the show is not perfect, but has perfect moments. They did it to me again. Twice in one episode. The call back integration of the gaurdian was excellent homage to the original series and a very creative way to get her out of the timeline. That was the first. The second, (dont beat me up too bad) was Burnams toast at the end to Philippa. Sonequa is a very talented actor and I really dug the speach and her delivery of it. She tried to go full Shatner (Spocks death) and really came close.

    #305 3 years ago

I personally find the Mirror Universe story in Disco to be lazy.
That said; we know she's doing Section 31... but the point in "time" where the Guardian claims Philippa is going is perplexing to me.
It's probably "anywhere" they want it to be. I can't imagine it's back at Disco's original timeline. But who knows.
We'll see when they finally start filming Section 31.

I get it, it is not for everyone its just working out plotlines to move Philippa out of the show. I really like Michelle Yeoh as a person so that affects my bias with her in the show. Shes the female Jackie Chan. Just fun to watch. Youtube her fighting scenes on youtube. She has skills. Her fight scene with Michael was very cool and she was fighting defensively and tried to save her the whole fight. Sonequa and Michelle really worked great together as characters. Philippa was a unique character and I will miss her on the show. She was different, aggressive, brutally honest, driven and would do anything to protect Michael. Fanboy rant!

I worked out a way to move ball lock back to right rail, so I welded left rail back together and cut out the right. I also had to shorten the ball drops on both sides. I can run the ball lock wiring behind the start mission target. It fits and has room so I am glad to be back to normal view on left side, it just did not work.

I still have to weld mounts to it, but I think this will look better then the 3d plastic one. Working on ideas for rotating mech, I am taking the discovery off and will replace it with a 3d wireformed something.

I cant find the clear light cover, but there will be a lighted con on the Klingon ship. I will be painting this ship for contrast with all the other rod.

Thanks! Painting Klingon red and I have cut poly for insert. Still working out details, but I thought Klingon red was appropriate.

Theres still painters tape covering strut arm mounts, but it looks great. And I am in the process of trying to make section 31 base. If it comes out well, it too will be painted. Fun day today. I feel like playing sega star trek looking at that red ship. I had the captains chair sega machine and I sold it a few years ago like a moran. It was a great vector game.

The side post is a good idea on the right return lock. How are you detecting balls in that lock?

    Quoted from Cmartin1235:

There is a 4 ball membrane switch on the bottom of channel. It might not be in some pictures, but I do have it.

    Quoted from Zitt:

    someone likes to weld.

I really liked the look of the Klingon ship in wireform over the 3d printed one once I made it. With the discovery being so big and being a wireform I figured the game would look good with other wireform pieces in it. The starbase should look good when painted and I was able to scale it down to the size needed to work on the rotating mech and that was biggest reason. And yes I do enjoy tig welding stainless rods!

    #318 3 years ago

I saw a frame with the 4 ball membrane switch. I did not know that was a thing. Is it reliable? Yeah, TIG is a lot of fun once you master not turning the joint into a runny puddle. I like the theme you are working on. How are you controlling the the mechs? PROC, P3, FAST, MPF? SG?

    #319 3 years ago

Proc through stern whitestar driver board and mechs. Started with basic Mpf, I had a chance to talk to Scott Danesi through emails on a parts return issue and he said he liked skeleton. So I am in between worlds at the moment and trying to lock down which path I go down further. Scott said you can do more with skeleton. I have a very basic mpf now, so I can go skeleton or keep going mpf. The benefit of going this route was I could run the original game program just to be able to play the whitewood and figure things out as its all the original stern hardware and switches. The switch itself is reliable as its a new one. The original broke down internally. And I painted the base.

I know Scott is a big SG fan and its served him well. Personally, I've been using MPF for a couple years now and have not hit limits yet with rule complexity, control or multimedia yet. But either way is good. I have similar ramp locks on Greek Gods but I went with optos, similar to what Multimorphic does with its ramp switches. Had I known about the membrane switches I might have gone with that. Again, my complements on the wireforms. Hours and hours of work there.

I have another machine build to follow! Nice work on the Greek Gods! Looks very cool. I really dig the newton ball trails. I am assuming you made them and they look great. I see Kansas city as location, I was stationed at Fort Riley and spent a few years in Kansas as a result. I do not miss the numerous tornado warnings or watches on the tv though. And I was there during the floods when it rained for a whole month once, 92 or 93 cant remember but it was nuts.

    #322 3 years ago

Got hit with an idea. Whats more reliable then gravity? My son went to bed, I wrapped a few gifts and got hit with an idea. Yes more welding.... Added another drop ramp that feeds the bumpers. All from plunger left rail, right rail and now pop bumpers! Power of launch is key. I am posting a video showing it working. I am launching ball with my thumb as its not in machine. Playfield at 6.5 and it works great. Merry christmas to all of you and your families.

Video of 3 launch points with new add on to wireform.

I don’t quite understand how the 3 launch points work but that is awesome!!

    Quoted from Mbecker:

Its so simple but works great. There is a cut out just bigger than the ball on rail and two small bends to get the ball to jump over the hole. The velocity determines everything. Very soft and it will fall into hole, moderate it passes hole but comes back and falls in. Eliminates adding a kicker and switch to do same thing I wanted and its error free.

You can fall back to code in MPF at any time. If you have or want to. Some of our users do that but by far not the majority. We try to provide a convenient config interface for common stuff in a machine but they are all optional. You can still just access everything from code either using our abstractions or directly.

Thanks for the information. I started with mpf and I have no issues with it at all. This is my first machine and the first dipping of my toes back into coding since the late nineties. I had a chance to ask Scott a few questions about his game and he said both are good, he mentioned that he was able to do more with skeleton. I am still pondering which to deep dive into. Once this game is reassembled I am locking down to coding it. I do appeciate any and all coding tips or opinions. I looked at Greek Gods and he said mpf was fine and his game looks great.

Thanks Mbecker! . I am really having alot of fun and ideas hitting me this weekend. I went out and bought an engraver. I am engraving the clear plastics, they will look like ghost flames. I tried out a discovery Spock just to see if it could work. It does!

Screwed up Michael on arch, speed setting is critical. 1.5 with fine diamond tip works great. Anything over that speed it jams bit and tends to wander. Got Pike on left bumper and Spock on right from them watching Michael go into wormhole.

Great offer and thanks. I am treating this like the rest of the machine and doing it all by hand, its more like art to me this way. Sounds silly, but this machine is really giving me some good distractions and I. am enjoying making it.

I got distracted as a Dialed in came up for sale too cheap by us and we bought it immediately. I appreciate all of Lawlors games as he always trys something on the playfield. Theme is weird, but it is a really interesting game. That being said, I got into discovery’s wiring today and I am moving along. I am working double shifts again this week so I will be shot.

My son got some interactive mario brothers lego sets and my wife has them on a board. The bowser would be a great mech. I know gottlieb made a machine, but I see alot of potential in theme, modes and mechs. This if done right would be huge.

Thanks to a ignorant co-worker I am now in quarantine. The mans wife was so sick he was going to take her to er, but she refused to go and so he just decided to come to work anyways. We get full pay without penalty to stay home if we are sick or in contact with someone that is sick due to covid. Well she tested positive for the virus and I worked with the idiot for 2 full days. Now I cant be with my family or son because he is high risk with asthma and I am locked into a section of my house because of his ignorance. I never work without a mask and I do wear gloves, but we cant risk it for my son. The only good thing is I have not seen my son since last Sunday as I have been working double shifts all week. I got sent home at 12:30 today. Don’t do this to someones family if you can avoid it. Some people just dont care about others and that sucks.

    That's sad news .... It's amazing how some people think(or don't)

    #341 3 years ago
    Quoted from Loganpinball:

so he just decided to come to work anyways.

Shouldn't he... like be fired... for putting other people at risk?
Shouldn't that message be loud and clear?
He should be terminated before you get back to work... I'm not saying you'd do it... but murder or a massive ash kicking would be on my mind when I saw in him next.
To be clear; given the bs this week... I'm am not inciting anyone to commit a crime... this just really angers me.

That said; Quarantine with a Set of Star trek Pins. Yes please. 2 weeks please.

So; just finished Season 3. I was expecting a cliffhanger season finale... but didn't get it.

Quoted from Zitt:Shouldn't he... like be fired... for putting people at risk

I agree with all of that. I should mention that he is also a union rep. He is a arrogant asshole that does what he wants at the job because of that.

I thought the cliff hanger was going to be Michael not answering the Captain question. That being sad, I like that she is now the Captain. The writters showed respect to Kirk with “I dont believe in no win scenarios” and that was just funny. But, they showed her doing what a Captain would need to do with ejecting someone into space. She is driven and very smart. It was interesting to see 3 seasons of story following a character to the point of reaching Captain.

I am still tweaking sensitivity on the reactive led light strip. The spore chamber is alive!

    #345 3 years ago
    Quoted from Zitt:

That all clear targets looks awesome; what's the deal with the blue target top the right...
    ?

I got a few different color targets. Red, green, yellow and blue. They are stern plug in switches from Marcos. Thanks to being locked up I am just working around the lights and targets. I have a few limited color leds so I am just seeing what I like. These might change, but it breaks up the all white. I also can recomend the milwaukee cordless soldering gun. It works great and the battery does alot of soldering on a single charge.
I dont know how I messed up the center rear target, but I did and the shot was way to narrow so I had to switch position with the insert so thats why it is different. Sucks, but I had no other options.

I could not get a smooth transfer launch between the two materials. So I extended the launch rail back to edge of lane. I have to rework switch, but headed in the right direction. I wasted some time trying to get it to work. I gave up and walked away. Thanks to my wife again, then today started this. Now its all one piece from launch to rails much better.

Ignore the inserts as they are mostly a mess. I am just getting the playfield tigthened up, what better way to bash it up with multiballs.

Altered newton mech and took out the spring loaded gate. Long term I think it would be a problem. If the shot is good the ball will stay up as the guide is bent in a way to lean the ball on upper newton.

Relocated spinner to left ramp entrance as it blocked view of red angel shot on right side. The 4 ball catch and spinner were too much in on one

Still messing with leds on spore chamber. They are on constant with sound driven pulse. I have not found the sweet spot.

I had to mig weld the ball launch guide for better support. One broke after a bunch of games. I laid a bead underneath that covers rails on both sides of circle support.

I added inner artblades too see if they work? Still not sold, but?

I need to get stronger powered solenoid for auto launch as this one is not consistent enough.

Thanks to Walmart I bought season 2 for the dvds to rip video files from. It is way more fun to build a machine then to code it! I got a TNA in a trade and I am blown away by the sound system. Its sounds amazing. Best sound track in a machine I have ever played. The alienware is not as much fun as a tig welder!
