Quoted from Pahuffman:

It started to smell immediately on turning the game on. Newish Rottendog power supply - should have gone with X-Pin, but I didn't know they existed when I bought the new one.

RD isn't necessarily the issue, original DE supplies have many miles on the and the caps are known to be a common issue.

Open the backbox and cabinet and turn the power on for 5 to 10 seconds and see if you can identify anything. Do a close visual examine of coils before powering up to see if one has a burned wrapper. DE also known for smoking the laser kick coil for some reason.

Greetings all! Just joined this wonderful club a couple of weeks ago when I got this beauty. Working like a charm, too.

Have to update the roms soon though.

I've been repairing and upgrading this machine for a while and I'm so close to being done but I have 1 issue that still remain. While playing Scott won't stop saying Scotty here scotty here Scott here Scott Scott Scott here more times then I care to know. Sometimes all sound cuts out for a minute including Scott, the returns. I heard a possible issue is the power supply is not putting out enough power, but that's not the case. I'm wondering if this could be a bade pin connector or 2. I never went through all if them. Any body think this could be the issue? Scott really needs to shut up!!!

How do you know it is not? What are 5v, 12v and -12v measuring? Original power supply?

I was wrong. The 12v is reading 9. What are my options? Replace the board. I know people who do this for a living, can it be repaired?

Xpin is the only replacement power supply I recommend if you don't get the original board repaired, which needs all new capacitors and possibly the bridge rectifier, which is extremely hard to remove without damaging the board.

I am one of those who like to repair the original with new capacitors (yes it will be as reliable as a new board) if the board is not badly damaged.

I suggest sending the board to ChrisHibler if you want to have it repaired.
