If the 6503 goes, they can be sourced, but are pricey. Other parts on the board can be sourced and replaced. One fairly prevalent issue with that board is that the large cap top center leaks and eats into the trace below it. Given the description, that's something to investigate.
Can you expand on this a little? I recently acquired two System 80A games and wondering if they fit in the "if the 6530 goes, you're SOL" category.
Does that mean that if that chip gets damaged that there isn't anything that can be done to fix the sound? Even one of the aftermarket card / board set things?
