I've done a number of Classic Bally restorations, and never really thought about this question. I'm currently working on a Lost World. I thought I had enough of the tall 1 1/4" star posts, but it turns out, some of the star posts in my bag are the shorter ones, at 1 1/8". It occurred to me that, rather than order the 3 or 4 of the taller posts I'm short, that I could substitute the shorter posts in the areas where there's not a screw supporting a plastic. The rubber ring will be at the same height, the colors of the posts will be more consistent as all of the ones I have appear to be from the same lot, and the shorter post will not rub on the bottom of the plastic. I can't think of a reason not to do this. Am I crazy? Is this a really bad idea?
