I'm finally done with my TZ restore. I started tearing it apart in March and as often happens, other things crop up that delay progress.

Some notes on the restore. I did all the work myself. I repaired, touched up, clearcoated the playfield, gutted and repainted the inside of the cabinet, etc. The cabinet art is original with a few touch ups. I replaced the clock housing, clock face and decal, two playfield plastics, and the plastic portion of the stand ups. Everything else was in good shape and is original for the most part (except for stuff like flipper rebuilds, rubber, bulbs of course.)

I finished the project in my basement, so I don't have photos in natural light and I don't have a bunch of exterior cabinet shots. I don't feel like bringing it outside or moving stuff around to get cabinet shots. But the couple of shots I have of the cabinet are the worst side as there are a couple of scuffs.

A slideshow of before and after photos can be found below.

Dwight was sure impressed with what you did to the playfield.

#8 11 years ago

Nice. Are you going to put this in Pizza west?

They should be in the slideshow and album, but I'll post them below.

I figured I'd show it to him so he could get an idea what us crazy pinheads do to our games.

Nice. Are you going to put this in Pizza west?

No, I'm afraid not for several reasons. One, I've put too much time and effort in it to put it in there. Anyone is welcome to come by and play it though. Two, I don't think it would do very good as most of the play is from kids. Shoot, most adults don't understand it. Three, I really don't want to try and maintain it, too much to go wrong.

That looks downright stunning stangbat. Atta boy points awarded for keeping all the work "in house"!

Congrats, Stangbat! Looks superb!

#12 11 years ago

Holy Crap! I knew this thing was gonna turn out awesome. Now hurry up and get tired of it so you can do a trade with my TAF or CP and do the same thing to either of those machines as you did here with the TZ!

Congrats on the completion.

Great work, so when you going to put it in the rotation at Pizza West ?

#14 11 years ago

Great job! Those playfield touchups were remarkable. Clear really came out nice. Which clear product did you use? Wally

#15 11 years ago

WOW! That looks REALLY nice. I hope mine looks that nice when I'm done with it.

Thanks, Wally. I used DuPont Chromaclear 7776S. I don't know if there is anything better, but I'd heard good things about it and lots of people seemed to use it, so I went with it.

The before and after pics really show the amazing job you have done with this TZ. Im digging the inside of the cabinet. Looks great, especially with the sides painted all the way down and the new speaker. Bravo.

what brand of touch up paint do you use and do you have to clear coat it.

I used Americana acrylics with brush extender so that you get nice smooth coverage. You have to protect it afterwards with some type of clear, Mylar, etc.
