Sometimes when I hit the shot under the tanker the ball doesnt register. Hitting the flipper seems to make it work but sometimes it will start searching for the ball. Any ideas is this a common issue?

You can try adjusting the switch which will get you by for awhile. For the long haul you need to replace the switch.
I looked at the switch and it seems that the arm isnt nearly long enough to register the ball every time. First time lifting a sega playfield seems wierd it goes completley upright.
Im going to order a new switch but want to confirm it has the correct one installed.
can you attach a picture here so we can see? if memory serves it is Cherry micro switch with a short cam with a rounded end.
I believe the VUK you are talking about is on page 76 of the manual and the switch in question is part #180-5052-00
Marco has it here

My bad, i was just trying to help the guy out. If we are going to concentrate on cost saving buy this and just move the actuating arm. There I saved another $2.75, not that it matters.

I wasn't trying to say you were ripping him off. Just wanted to let him know he could buy it cheaper. And your also right that you can buy the body and put the old arm on it unless it is bent up/broken.

which one is the tanker? On my SST, it does not always recognise the ball going into the nukes saucer under the grasshopper on the left of the playfield. I think this is a bug in the rom, it works most times, but in some modes it wont get triggered and starts a ball search. If its not in a mode it will work all the time, but in a mode, it will often get hung up and not kicked out until ball search mode.
I would guess a flaky switch there as well, I've never seen a SST do that. You could always make sure you are running the latest code in it but more likely it's the switch.
I think the switch is ok. I think there is a bug, say in ground attack mode, in that it seems if a ball hits the VUK and the saucer, the VUK takes precedence and the saucer languishes, and because the state of the switch does not change I wonder if it does not see it the next time it scans all the switch states. Does not seem to happen if I'm just hitting targets and not in a mode.
I'll try and pay more attention to when it triggers, but from its observed behaviour I think its a bug in the ROM (I have 2.00 and not the current 2.01 which is the latest).

The tanker is the big bug on the right of the playfield under the pop caps. I ordered a switch and will probably order upgraded roms unless someone with a burner can do it for cheaper.
You're going to hate me for saying this, but I'm getting tired of my SST.
Best of luck with your issue- hopefully it's an easy fix!

I really like mine but holy smokes is it hard. To funny Tony you could have saved me a few bucks had you sold me yours.
