Quoted from Rat_Tomago:Seriously, there has to be about 20 other threads discussing the whole LED Vs. Incandescent bulbs. We really didn't need a 21st one.
Agreed but I think NJGecko's original intention was to find out how the LEDs might look / perform in the overall context of SS.
Okay, my $0.02. I've been thinking of upgrading my SS as well (still 100% incandescent) and I agree with the others: I also like the "warm soft glow" of the GI and also, now that I read this:
Quoted from Underspin:... I can't do LED under playfield inserts. I see colored streaks as my eyes dart back and forth it drives me nuts.
That would annoy the hell out of me as well. Not an LED expert; would white LEDs also separate into color streaks if you look past them quickly? If not, maybe that's the best option, just replace all PF lights with whites?
Regarding LEDs, I was thinking of doing something like this on my SS and also wondering what other pinsiders think:
- GI: warm frosted non-flickering (during GI dimming)
- PF inserts: color matched for most, except frosted white under Stiff-o-Meter levels
- Backbox spider wheel inserts: Frosted white (to bring out the colors of all options and not "overdo it"
- Backbox GI: Warm frosted
BTW - does anyone have a video of the color changers in their SS, behind the TV or candle? Interested to see what kind of effect this gives.
Good luck NJ, and let us know what you decide!
