Thanks I checked my r9 and after a little more searching found out about the "black leg of death " that was on my TMS5200NL. I cleaned the legs with fine grade sandpaper ,replaced and that was my solution. Thank you!

I have several Eight Ball Deluxe S&T speech ROMs and some sound perfect and others are fast when used on the same board.
It seems the newer ones are faster.
Whenever I've had a S&T that works for a while and then goes haywire, it has always been corrosion on the legs of the chip carrier and the socket. Sanding and cleaning them up is usually a short-lived fix and the problem eventually returns. Sort of like when you try to sand and clean old connector pins. They never seem to last once corrosion has got to them.
