Hi All
I have a S&T board in my Spectrum that does speech and sound when pushing the test button on the S&T but nothing during gameplay. The board is recapped, new pots, repinned at J1. I have a working S&T board and have swapped all the socketed chips and the working board works with all the chips swapped across but the non-working doesn't. What should I do next?

Have you tested the continuity from J1 to where each trace ends up ?

Sounds like connector issues: The MPU is unable to trigger the sounds via the control-lines, even though the board is able to generate the sounds (via self-test). I'd inspect and reflow all the pins on the input connectors.
