I hope this information will help someone. I’ve included some pictures of my notes. Things I learned after fixing 7 s&T boards (2xfathom, embryon, 4x 8bD)in a few days. Number 1, don’t wast your time until you have replaced all caps. The bad caps effect the voltage and makes the chips seem bad. I waisted a lot of time removing chips and sockets. I did not find one bad socket. Number 2, the trimmer pots were almost all bad. You can remove and solder the 2 contacts together temporarily. I did this on all boards with no sound. Number 3, you need to have the correct jumper settings. You can look at my boards for these 3 games. Beyond that there was a few rare nightmare issues. C47 and c48 had the wrong part installed causing major buzz. The key here is to look for replaced parts and inspect closely. Another problem was a week contact that needed to be soldered better. FYI, Touching the board in the middle area causes a buzz to prove you have sound to the speaker. I personally would not attempt this without a desoldering iron and a voltmeter. Thanks to Fytr and Quench for fast reply on my questions. Thanks, Del

How did you score seven S&T boards?

    #4 3 years ago

My standard operating procedure is replace all electrolytic capacitors first. Then resolder all connectors and voltage regulator. Then replace the two crappy trimpots. Thus usually brings the boards back to life.

    Quoted from Quench:

All I had to do was buy games with boards included.

Let me rephrase that for you. “How did you score five EBDs?”

Living in pinball land nj for 20yrs. You can pull from Pa, ny, md, and nj. Plus I had a booth at the Allentown pinball show for 10 years in a row. I came across a little of everything. Still getting rid of stuff purchased years ago. Back then i didn’t even know how to fix them. Still have around 70 machines. One thing I learned was it’s so much easier to fix something when you have two of them to compare and swap parts.

Hot diggety is that a nice collection of EBDs! Let me know if you decide to part with one sometime! It's one of the last games I'll need to "complete" my collection!

Well, I'm surprised to say it but looks like i won't be searching for an EBD anymore! Just scored one for my collection.

It will certainly be looking sharp next to my be BK, no doubt!

Thank you for sharing all that info on the s&t board, too! Great work!

They are super nice when complete. The top double layer plastics with all the bells seem to be the thing that pains me the most. Every bell needs to be polished and installed carefully into the new plastics. Total pain to do a perfect job.
