What are the spring washers for on Gottlieb score reels. I have cleaned some reels that still got stuck at 9 and I took that spring washer out and it worked perfect . Will taking them out cause any problems

It likely will cause problems with the cam operated switches among other things. The spring washer takes up lateral play, while allowing a certain amount of give in the score reel unit. It is meant to be there.
If the score reel binds with it installed, an adjustment, or lubrication is needed.
That "wave washer" needs to be there.
If cleaning and re-greasing the assembly doesn't help (still sticks on the "9" ), what I do then is to cut a couple of loops off of the long spring in there. That gives just a tad more pull to move the reel.
