Grew up with Scooby Doo.
Another fun theme by Spooky.

Quoted from wcbrandes:Ok let's not forget what happened. 2k NON refundable deposits without showing anything from the game. Not even the ability to put the deposit towards a future game if you did not like layout, art, etc etc. There ARE people out there that are not flippers and just want to see what they are committing too. Sure it is the buyers fault for knowing this and taking the risk but that does not excuse these manufacturers taking advantage of fomo and withholding all information on purpose to solidify the money. Doesn't both sides need to take some blame for this ? Business is business, but it sure says a ton about the type of business you want
Your company to be known for well into the future.
Having said all that, I really like the company and mostly I like the people within it, but whoever came up with " don't show a thing, take the money, and don't let them out of it without a 2k penalty , is not the type of business I prefer to do business with and I see this from many others as well.
I will sit on the sidelines on this one and see what type of company Spooky chooses to become as I believe they have read the room and will most likely take a much different path then they did with the last 2 titles.
Rooting for Spooky and to make this theme a good one with a great release !
Flame on
No flame on. Just the truth. Hopefully they learned from last time.
I’m not playing the day one FOMO non refundable deposit game either.
Flippers are losing $$$ these days. A good thing
Let the game stand on its own. I’m sure it will as Spooky gets better with each release.
Love this theme. And really like my Halloween.
Quoted from metallik:One thing not yet mentioned is Pinotaur. I will not buy another game with the current SMT-transistor board. Spooky, please redesign this with through-hole parts that don't crater the board when a coil shorts out. It'd be nice if this redesign could be used in HWN/UM as well.
I’ve gotten lucky thus far but have had a couple of friends that have had a ton of trouble with that board and problems it has caused.
Not good for route ops especially
Spooky efficiency and number of builds per week has grown over the past year it appears.
I don’t remember how Spooky did the non refundable deposit thing last time other than it was opening up the orders at a certain time and ended up being a shit show with server issues and such.
Nvm, Treybo summarized the time line ^^^
I ended up buying a low 100 spot from someone. CE butter
I know a lot people ended up being pissed off because they didn’t ultimately like Halloween or figured out they were going to lose $$$
I like my Halloween a lot.
Hard to say “it’s the 1st Spooky pin that has ever lost value” which isn’t true, and think Halloween was a one off when you are starting from a MUCH higher price point.
Just like Bond, TS4 etc, you are going to lose $$$ on the secondary market when you go to sell.
Thus, there should be zero FOMO. If we all haven’t learned that lesson by now then there is no hope for us.
All that said, I don’t know how Spooky is going to get away from the “non refundable” deposits?
You don’t want a bunch of looky Lou’s clogging up the pipeline and they need some visibility on what they can expect to build.
However, they will need to allow a longer time frame to allow buyers to evaluate some game play BEFORE $$$ becomes locked, unlike last time.
Bottom line, the FOMO model should be on life support, zero reason to believe you can’t get any game later at the same price or probably cheaper, and that includes JJP, Stern and everybody else
I’ll probably get a Scooby game if it looks good. Just won’t be on a FOMO rush.
Quoted from BMore-Pinball:My guess is FOMO is still strong with this crowd
I’m just trying to throw out some reason but I’d agree, the mad scramble will probably happen again on some level.
Price gets too high. FOMO somewhat dead. That’s the other side of the coin now for these companies. Demand destruction.
To think that these companies have to rely on FOMO and tricking the buyer is not a winning or sustainable strategy imho
Can somebody explain the practical differences between PROC and PINOTAUR?
If PROC is better why switch ?
Quoted from applejuice:Control over your hardware design is a factor to as your business grows. This also feeds into cost.
When you use a 3rd party for your hardware you get some benefits initially, but you are limited as time goes on and have limited input to the direction/changes/updates you want from your businesses perspective
Also if supply dries up or the 3rd party stops making them/can’t source parts/ceases trading you have a big problem so there’s added risk there to.
Makes sense. Great point. Thx
As far as Halloween goes, I realize it might not be everybody’s cup of tea but I’m a “fan” of different layouts that aren’t “fan”
The code at 1.08 has come a LONG ways and is a lot of fun. And the new update coming should just elevate it even more.
I agree with Mnpinball, it’s gonna take a great theme in 2023 and Spooky picked a really good one in Scooby, I think their best potential
Quoted from Damonator:Agreed - I've been in the hobby during the dot-com bust and the housing recession. Both had little effect on prices in the secondary market. If the pattern is similar, you'll see a few fire sales that get gobbled up quickly, but otherwise no huge swings. Most people in this hobby aren't living paycheck to paycheck.
NIB game sales will suffer a bit - and a large part of that is self-imposed pricing wounds from Stern/JJP. I hope Spooky/CGC recognize that pricing error and continue to price their CE/LE models under $10k.
I hear you brother BUT we are starting at penthouse levels today and the elevator has only one way to go.
The days of $5200 LOTRLE close outs are over . For now
This isn’t a complaint at all, but it is kind of funny how we have all rationalized the idea that a $10k pinball machine is now a bargain.
Congrats to Spooky on what looks to be an excellent job!
Quoted from Deez:There is no way this game will sell out day 1. Spooky is doing the right thing by giving the hardcore fans the opportunity to buy on day 1 by keeping the speculators at bay. Once gameplay footage is released it is a crapshoot if they will sell them all or not. I personally love the non-refundable deposits as they remove the flippers from the equation. Nice job Spooky. I have faith in the team at spooky to stand by their product. It isn't without frustration at times but they've always come thru for me.
Agree with this 100%
If what you have seen thus far is enough for you along with the Q&A session tomorrow then jump on board Day 1
If it’s not good enough and you need gameplay then wait it out.
1,969 games solves the problem, it’s not “limited”, and also gets rid of the spot flippers. People got burned on UM/HW? But you put a deposit down knowing the risk. Now you can just wait it out
Quoted from matt68061:I hear ya…. I can (to a certain point) understand showing limited gameplay and video assets. I also respect creating a certain amount of “FOMO”…They are trying to sell a product after all.
That said…to not even show playfield pics of the BSE and Standard is kinda pushing it. Im personally not a big fan of the lime green powder nor am I a topper guy at all. Leaning BSE…. But deciding to spend 10K (w/ tax & shipping) without even a PICTURE is a tough sell to the wife!
The wife will understand.
But just wait until you get a picture. No big deal. They are made after the CEs anyhow
Quoted from Mando:Anyone know how pinball star determines order if it’s not based on how soon your order it ?
GL with that. Love Joe, he does his best to be fair but he has too many people to accommodate because he does such a good job.
There will always be spots you can pick up during any point in the build process later if you can be patient.
Quoted from cooked71:That’s why I don’t get the whining about non refundable deposits. Firstly it weeds out the flippers. Secondly it stops every Tim Dick and Harry ordering due to FOMO, then bailing at the first hint of a negative Podcast.
By eliminating flippers and FOMOers, those that are super keen on the theme get in early, the rest have time to decide. Win win and exactly what we’re seeing now with Scooby.
I LMAO at the guys that chime in with “have they sold out yet” or “I put 30 in the buy it now order and I can’t believe there are that many left”.
Way too many FOMO’s still hoping to validate their purchase with a “sellout”.
Quoted from chuckwurt:Fawsma is gone. I understand they were heading up Hwn/UM. The person that is redoing those games is also doing scooby I believe.
That’s a good thing.
Over his head obviously.
Quoted from Damonator:Exactly. I hope people are buying the game because they want the game. How many are made is irrelevant.
So true. But pinball has become this mentality of “hey guys, who in this with me”? “FOMO is the best”
If it sells out then you’ve justified your purchase and can believe your “investment” is safe.
If it doesn’t then you are left scratching your head as to “what happened to the rest of the guys”. “Flippers gone”?
The continuous flood of $10k plus pins creates a supply that the demand ultimately won’t keep up with, especially on secondary market.
I have Scooby CE #132 coming. Bought because I like the theme and cool layout.
Just like Bond LE.
Fun times
Quoted from mpdpvdpin:Sure, but the big trolls on FB are the very same trolls from pinside. Mainly flippers with a vendetta against Spooky. People who would gladly drag the hobby down with them for a quick buck. Scum bags.
Dude, you need to calm down re Spooky.
Game speaks for itself. You seem to be the #1 Spooky cheerleader which is fine.
You keep banging on how great HWN is. It’s a fun pin. We know.
Fact is, you don’t know jack shit about Scooby other than what we have seen so far.
People might have a different opinion.
Quoted from mpdpvdpin:Yeaaaa, I don’t have an opinion on Scooby yet. I’m just talking facts about what is physically in the game and expressing irritation with trolls who are just out to tear down whatever Spooky is doing.
It’s not your job brother.
Wasting your time
Quoted from manadams:I guess it's only cool to cheerlead for failed pinball startups. You still dust off those Deeproot pom poms from time to time?[quoted image]
Haha. F off
How about contributing to Pinside to post your stupid drivel.
Quoted from mpdpvdpin:Yeaaaa, I don’t have an opinion on Scooby yet. I’m just talking facts about what is physically in the game and expressing irritation with trolls who are just out to tear down whatever Spooky is doing.
Not facts pal. And you don’t run Twitter either. Lol
I have a game coming. At least wait until they start landing to pump the shit out of it.
Let me know when they sell out so I can feel like a winner.
Quoted from SLRage:How about you eat a big Texas sized d****
I’d have to pull it out of your mouth.
Quoted from SpookyLuke:We are back and working away! We managed to secure a pretty cool surprise for you guys that we are going to announce next week!
Think you guys already secured the surprise win today.
Stern showed Bond 60th SLE. You win
Quoted from JakePG:That's what's funny about scrappy. He's such a pompous, condescending ass that's it's actually kind of funny.
Isn’t Scrappy Doo based on Kaneda? I kid. Lol.
Quoted from NimblePin:You can come play my Scooby Calprog, when it shows up.
Nimble in the house! Party at Odiners?
Quoted from Breger1:Sorry for as what I am positive is a repeated question..been out sick with Covid. Any gameplay announcements?
Laying around with the flu maybe read the thread?
Besides, who needs 18 seconds
Quoted from PinMonk:It looks like they're using milky white inserts which SUCK for color vibrance. It just blahs out the color (see:RUSH). I wish they hadn't done that, but it's a pretty small complaint.
It’s called “majoring in the minors”
Game looks awesome!
Quoted from PsychoPsonic:Pinball goes great with so many things, but stairs are not among them. Gogdog's pic about made me break out in friggin' hives.
"The day my hobby and my marriage became fundamentally incompatible, scene 1: Triple-check the straps, moron""
Single story home. The greatest thing about moving 3 years ago. No more F ing stairs to deal with.
Only problem is it tends to breed more pins because it’s so easy.
Quoted from BallyKISS1978:Still waiting for shipping notification. Looks like three in the wild and all owner operators. Spooky only boxes up 7 a day only. So still waiting for #32
They must have forgotten about you Scooby?
I’m #132 and just got my “going on the line” invoice notice.
Quoted from Danzig:Just playin a little Halloween while waiting on the new Scooby pin to arrive.
[quoted image]
