I did an ROI on my first pin.... But my inputs are different than most. Living in the middle of everything (nowhere), it's a 6+ hr drive to a decent bar-cade (Denver area is my favorite at the moment). So dropping quarters locally isn't an option (go ahead, look me up on the map). So, to play a 3 hr stint at a place requires driving, hotel, shopping (with my wife and 3 daughters), food, gas, etc. so that quickly turns into a 2k+ trip.
So if I have pins everyone likes, then it's just a fun add-on for other trips we may take (vacation or such)... At 10k, that's 5 trips...
Resale only really matters if you plan to sell them, which I don't (currently) and I have room for 10 pins. Now I don't want to be stupid in the purchase, Mando was my first and still my favorite, but 2k for a topper that i can't look at while playing is crazy. 15k for a CE TS4 seams out of touch, but 11k ish for a lightly used TS4 LE... that sounds good to me, save a little off MSRP and someone else had to throw the box away. Price for the CE Scoob... my wife's dream theme... just the price for her allowing the hobby to stay in our lives.
Besides, anything with wheels depreciates to nearly 0 at some time, but that doesn't keep most people from getting multiple cars, RV's, boats, SXS, all are really just money pits and only go up if your lucky and did some research. Plus, most people have interest accruing payments on those items.
In the end, its still a hobby, albeit expensive to enter. Hobbies cost money; Jobs make money. My Pin collection still doesn't hold a candle to my Lego collection... but that's a different addiction, and once again value doesn't matter since I'm not selling those either (unless some one wants to trade for a TS4 or GZ )
