Quoted from BallyKISS1978:

Not all pins need pages of rules like JP. Sometimes it’s nice to not have to keep the rule book next to me while playing. Many of us are not great players and would be nice to see a wiZard mode or end of the game.
Give me 90’s Williams rules or bit more I would be happy. Rules don’t have to be so deep unless your a pinball wizard.

Tell that to Munster’s owners… Munster’s was a fun game for a while

#2802 11 months ago

Haha.. I read the whole Wikipedia Scooby history, " Real Ghosts and Monsters did not appear until the 1980s... and the Celebrity Guest stars were in the 1973-74 Hour long episodes.
The Sandy Duncan episode was fun and Don Knotts.. Mr Limpet himself.
The hour long episodes were cut in half, and turned into regular length episodes, then run in syndication with the original 1969-1970 two seasons.

Which is why we remember the guest stars... as those episodes were mixed in with the OG episodes.

Quoted from OriginalFresh:

I’ve filled out what I believe I know about the map. Feel free to correct what I have and hopefully have some answers for the question marks I’ve listed.
[quoted image]

"?-2" is the Creeper (Barn dance)
"?-1" and/or "?-3" is from the Witch?, although I'm surprised they didn't have the riverboat.
"?-5" is the Ghost Ship (Redbeard)?

#2804 11 months ago
Quoted from P1nhead:

The 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo
But never true supernatural in OG Scooby (1980s Scooby I grew up with on Saturday mornings had ghosts).
If you rewatch the original first few seasons the theme is clear:
-Old people are superstitious
-Most young people know better and the bohemian stoner is a little "stitious" (to paraphrase Michael Scott).
Truly, the writers of Scooby wanted a cartoon to set children off into scientific method/discovery.
We have come full circle though as many of the doctors I learned/trained with from premed through fellowship have a complete lack of understanding. There are no didactics. There is no application of Socratic method - only a choir or echo chamber. Almost like a Ray Bradbury novel or, better yet, Justin Long's physician character from Idiocracy.
"Like, this pill is like, a thing that like, works on your liver and junk... but not your junk down there the junk that's like, right here by the stomach (as they mistakenly point to the spleen)."

Thank you for the insight to the mindset of todays doctors.
Dr Lexus and Luke Wilson’s trip to the hospital are hilarious.
Mike Judge is almost a modern day Nostradamus in his vision of what the future holds .

Quoted from The-Hum:

I hope there's an option for co-op mode... to work through the villains and modes together with other players.

Quoted from Pugster:

Let me just acknowledge that spooky_dj upvoted a post that mentioned coop play!!

#2806 11 months ago

Yesssss I hope

Quoted from Morgoth00:

Are you sure Franken Castle is not actually the castle from "A Night Of Fright Is No Delight" with the Green Ghosts? Franken Castle was on the large Haunted Isle as opposed to the Green Ghosts castle in the water.
[quoted image]

I think it more closely relates to the Franken Castle (attached picture). The werewolf sculpt on the upper playfield was featured in that episode.
However, we can also see the green ghosts you are talking about on the sling plastics as well.

I asked about coop in the live chat. They stated it was def on the radar. The other interesting note was the possibility of stealing locked balls in the apron. I like that idea as well.

What do we know about the "Adult Mode"?

#2810 11 months ago
Quoted from Dexter:

What do we know about the "Adult Mode"?

I don't think anything is known yet. On the live stream they said we'd just have to enable it and see.

#2811 11 months ago

They said we would have to find out.

Quoted from Litedpinballmods:

For those of you that grew up in the San Jose California area, do you remember Frontier Village amusement park? Hanna Barbara was a sponsor, and Scooby Doo was a standard character between 1977 to the parks closing in 1980. Between Mariott's Great America amusement park, and the price of real estate and issues with the local community it was forced to close.[quoted image]

Kings Island in Cincinnati had a Hanna Barbara Land section of the park for a very long time and the junior coaster was named Skooby Doo. It's now Peanuts themed since Cedar Fair bought it.

#2813 11 months ago

Paramounts Kings Dominion. Was a great park back then with all those licenses. Still a good park but nothing like it was.

Quoted from bobukcat:

In North Carolina the amusement park Carowinds had Hanna Barbara land as well, along with Smurf Village for the little ones.

Quoted from Heavyk:

I forgot about smurf mountain. The scooby doo at KD was my first coaster.

#2816 11 months ago

When I was little living in Texas I remember going to a Hanna Barbera Land and they had this thing where you acted out all this stuff in a green screen and put you in a scooby episode.

Same at Canada's Wonderland in Toronto

It's all Peanuts now which is ok but our kinds loved the Scooby stuff!

Quoted from CrazyLevi:

Was there ever a scooby episode that ended with a real ghost or supernatural phenomenon?
Or was it always the caretaker in a mask?

The lesson I took from Scooby was that the real monsters are always human.

#2819 11 months ago

Is this game the typical 43" x 23.75" widebody glass? Looking to pick up a piece of invisaglass.

#2820 11 months ago
Quoted from EasternBloc:

Yes, lesson learned is there is no such thing as ghosts but most people are evil.

Quoted from La4s:

This was confirmed. Standard wide body glass.

[quoted image]

I can spoil it if you'll want. For now, I'll just drop a hint that each of the map locations is either represented with the villain inserts, topper, or plastics. Some of the plastics are a bit hidden by the Mystery Machine ball lock mechanism.

#2822 11 months ago

Damn, lots of new posts since I last checked in. I ended up taking a shot every time someone asked the same question about the butter cabinets and put myself in a coma for 2 days.

Quoted from jetspeedb:

Paramounts Kings Dominion. Was a great park back then with all those licenses. Still a good park but nothing like it was.

In the mid-90s, when I was like 11-12 my parents really pissed me off going into King's Dominion. Yelling fight right at the turnstyles. Then we go in and Fred Flintstone was right there and ran up trying to give me a hug.

Not having one iota of that I loaded up the best right hand I could deliver to his gut. Felt great. Then, as someone who never gets motion sickness, got the worst case of it on the first ride (Days of Thunder). I've had better starts to theme park days. Overall good park though. The Hurler had just opened and it kicked ass!

To this day if my sister's family and ours go to a theme park, she holds me back when we walk in for the cast member's safety. And if KD's Fred is a member here - I owe you a beer sometime.

Spooky- mod guys ,this is what i would like to see as an upgrade for the spots. these are the kind of lanterns i remember from Scooby as a kid. i cannot think of anything else i would change on the machine.

^^^ love the lanterns. Yeah, Scooby creeped around on two legs in every haunted mansion episode with a lantern in his paw. That is probably one of the most iconic things about the show. Maybe a modder will be left to distribute them, but it shoulda been spooky.

I'm sure some modder will come up with cool vintage-looking ones, maybe flame bulbs, maybe a Nautical-looking one for near Captain Cutler.

Insta-buy.

I love that lantern mod. How come we can't find those vintage style bulbs yet in pinball? I have a few of these in my house now but not yet made in micro size.

Maybe some of the specialty bulbs you can buy from Comet. Like the Fire bulbs I used in my Meteor topper and backglass.

When will gameplay be revealed? Not the trailer but with the actual sounds etc?

I agree that that would look cool, but I think the point of the spotlights is to light up the area better and flame bulbs won't do that very well.

[quoted image]

That style of bulb is commonly referred to as an Edison bulb. Your closest bet with something this small might be something like this: https://www.cometpinball.com/products/fire-bulbs

As mentioned above for spotlight usage, you want brightness. These type of bulbs work better for aesthetics than just playfield illumination.

#2834 11 months ago
Quoted from manadams:

So is the apron lock a first for pinball or has this been done before on another game?

Blackwater 100 had a flipper and a kick out hole in the apron plus a long crazy ramp that lead to it. I guess not really a lock.

#2835 11 months ago
Quoted from RC_like_the_cola:

You could make it do double duty. It is intended to light up behind it, but you could have the flickering bulb toward the player (essentially two bulbs). The cosmetic side toward player, useful side pointed where it needs to be

#2836 11 months ago
Quoted from taz:

I agree. I play Iron Man 10 times more than my other pins and it's not deep at all, other than the nearly unobtanium Do or Die Multiball. IM has very few modes and players can run the entire game on one great ball. Yet it's amazingly fun to play. Deep isn't everything.

I’m not a wizard but I like deeper rules. Not having to take the same path game to game, approaching the progression in a non linear way is what I personally love to do. In deeper rulesets, ideally there are risks and rewards of taking different paths. Having different characters should allow this in SD (not only way but like GoT families, deciding who to play with for which rewards, stacking or not stacking, this can make it feel fresh each time you play).

Hitting orbit 3 times to start Orbit mode; hitting right ramp 3x to start right ramp mode; etc gets boring for me personally. less an issue for on location I suppose but having deeper code seems better if Spooky/anyone wants to sell more home use pins. The deeper code is a nice way to (attempt) to justify increasing cost of the pins as well. Maybe SD will be best of both worlds - easy enough to understand and fun to shoot (start a mode, get van MB, pound the upper Pf bash toy, maybe reach an initial wiz), but if you want to get creative with different characters or the path you take around the map/order solve mysteries- you can do so.

Quoted from Zablon:

I was thinking the same thing. Like a cover that goes over the spotlight, letting the spotlight do it's job with the aesthetic part facing the player.

Now I'm torn between SD CE and ALIEN LV, lol...I do have a CE Spot for Scooby, and I'll keep it. I kinda getting pumped for this..BUT I just played an ALIEN yesterday in Seattle, and I fell in love with that machine...so badass and this one actually had zero problems..(problems aside, labor of love)..Now I have to sell something in my collection to get both of these machines!

I would love to see lanterns hanging from the castle with the led flame bulbs.

That’s a good point because Alien is great too.

I own Alien, and it's amazing. Simply amazing. There's a reason it hit the #1 spot before people who don't know anything about it starting hating on it.

Order both, figure it out later.

edison bulbs. LED modules have come a long way and are tiny and powerful now! player facing could be something like the WOZ mod , flickering throne, two leds one orange one red and a flame like lense player facing to give effect. play area facing just bright flood led modules.

Tonight (Monday Dec 12) at 9pm on the CW network they are showing a repeat of a 2021 Scooby Doo special, "Scooby Doo, Where Are You Now!". I haven't seen it, but the description of the show is as follows:
"Scooby-Doo, Where Are You Now! - The gang gathers at Warner Bros. Studios to reminisce about their favorite cases and how they were filmed."

I thought some folks in this thread reminiscing about Scooby might be interested in seeing it.

3 days post order. The hype train is full steam ahead. All aboard, hop on or GTFO! Chooooo chooooo!!!

#2846 11 months ago

Is the coder the same a Ultraman/Halloween? Does he have any pins he has coded in the past to see his work?

#2847 11 months ago

Any concerns with the new board set? Used anywhere else? I am in on a CE but I must admit that I am a tad worried.

#2848 11 months ago

xx478 was earliest spooky order I could find
We are past xx732 (mine) through spooky at this point
With an average of 23ish games a week.... xx732 through spooky would get filled 2.5months after the first shipment ignoring other factors... like the versions ordered or distributor orders.
Best guess is more likely 4-6 months assuming things go well and distributors got a decent amount of orders as well.

Still might arrive before my CCrLE

New board set seems to be designed and maintained in house.
To me this is a positive because they don't need to work with a supplier to implement changes / mods as needed.

Spooky started a technical thread about the board set already.

I have been to King’s Dominion many times. I was sad to read they tore down the Volcano Blast Coaster fairly recently.
