When I landed my first Spooky game last year, I decided to splurge for the "Butter" cabinet (a $999 option). The amazing beauty of this cabinet motivated me to put it in my entry way. I've had/commissioned some insane pinball restorations over the past 15 years and none of them had nicer cabinets. The Spooky butter cab artwork is directly applied to the wood and clear coated - the wood prep and clear are nicer than some manufacturers playfields!

As you may know, Spooky made 750 Rick and Morty's. I imagine 250 or so were ordered with "Butter"? Rare beast when compared with other manufacturers LE runs and you actually get something that is not only rare, but freaking beautiful. The photos below don't do it justice. In person, the difference is glaring (when compared with decals). The clearcoat really makes the colors pop. Also cool that Spooky blanket wraps the butter cabinets...a really nice touch.

Thanks to Spooky for going outside the box and doing something unique. I hope Spooky continues to offer this really cool feature on their upcoming game!

I have three Spooky‘s. All with butter cabinets.
TNA, ACNC and R&M. All three also have Ronald Kruzman cleared playfields.

How do they compare to the WoZ Emerald Edition? That cab in particular is incredible. Might be same cab art on the Ruby Red, but I'm not sure.

Its the exact same process since Charlie was a JJP employee before starting Spooky and was the one that brought the idea of the "butter" cab to JJP for the Emerald edition. When he left and started Spooky, he took his idea with him and made it available on Spooky pins while JJP never did it again.

Cool. I love Ron's work, but I've been really pleased with R&M's standard PF quality/clear. IIRC, Spooky discontinued the Kruzman option on R&M. Will be surprised if they bring it back for the next title.

But I don’t want a butter cabinet!!!

Butter cab all the way, amazing.

In between games you do kettle ball workouts?

I posted this on a different thread, but in case this helps someone highly recommend the Escalera with the pinball plate, saved my back so much!

ACNC butter here. Agreed it is pretty damn awesome.

Wow. Thanks for posting. For collectors putting these beauties in their home, the butter rocks. The perfect collector feature (and unique to Spooky). I ended up liking it more than I thought I would. Considering the cost of (often) crappy toppers, I'd rather put the $$ into beautiful craftsmanship. Also adds to the value/rarity, which can't hurt in terms of value.

Can someone compare and contrast the look of Radcals to Butter? I've seen the new JJP CEs cabinet and want to know how they compare. Butter's pretty much out for me but I'm curious.

I've never had a game with Radcals, but I'm sure they are a great upgrade from standard decals. Really wish Stern offered Radcals!

Spooky's approach is more "old school", which is more labor intensive and requires more craftmanship. I'm sure both Radcals and Butter look great.

Butter is superior to radcals in my opinion.

They are really cool looking, but not worthwhile depending on your setup. A few times a year I'll see the cabinets of ACNC or R&M because I'm moving pins around and think, "Holy shit, I forgot how nice that cabinet was!" ... and back in a row it goes. Both of my Spookys are second hand, but if I were ordering one from them I wouldn't get butter cabinet because of this.

Here's a butter FT cabinet I had done by Spooky's subs. You really need to see it in person to truly appreciate how nice this looks.

I haven't seen radcals in person. They may look as nice as a butter cabinet but they're not the actual finish on the cabinet. They're a sticker that's applied to the existing cabinet. Huge difference in my eyes.

They might do a Ron Kruzman playfield by special request. At least they did for me and all three of my games. I’ll be frank though, they were critical of Ron‘s work and didn’t see the need for it. I have his playfields I’m happy for all of my games.

Thanks for your post & photos Bryan! Considering you are one of the master pinball restorers, your eye/opinion means a lot.

I haven't seen any criticism of Ron's work...only on his ability to do things in a timely fashion. As Spooky starts building more games, it becomes tough to take special requests like this. I'm pretty discriminating and frankly don't see the need. I like Spooky's model of just making sure the standard PF rocks (unlike other vendors, where it is still a crap shoot).
